@@mauricioamado5975 on battery nr 3 now, battery 2 only lasted about 5 years, last change was October 2021 with a Seiko approved service centre, I hope its better quality

I’ve had mine since 2015. The bezel is an E6B (pilots call it the Whiz Wheel ) & yep, it works to FAA standards. Of course, at my age, I need a 42 mm Cyclops or I can’t see the numbers. I HIGHLY recommend this watch if you fly.

How accurate is the bezel btw? I've tried a few other similar bezels and all the ones that have one scale on either side of the glass have parallax issues...

Agree on the proximity of spring bar to the case, but really love my SNA411❤️ However, I did manage to scratch the hardlex in the first week, but not since! Happy New Year to you and Gato, Jory!

Got a single dome sapphire installed on my flighty with blue AR coating and it really really takes the watch to the next level (also had it professionally pressure tested after the sapphire mod by a watch maker to ensure the WR rating). So much more clear than the hardlex crystal and that blue hue is gorgeous 😍. I paired it with an Artem black sailclotch strap and the watch now looks and feels like a very expensive luxury watch. The sapphire crystal + artem strap makes the watch pop like crazy!

I did the exact same thing. Lusted after the flighty for months before pulling the trigger. I think I put it on the wrist for an outing once, then havent worn it since. Keep looking at it to put on, but it just isn't as functional day to day compared to other more legible options. Basically use the same 3 pieces in rotation: Oris Propilot (daily wear), Seiko SBDC053 (diver / swim watch) and Tissot LeLocle (dress watch).

This has been on my bucket list for years but Everytime I was about to get it something I wanted more came along. I took your advice and found one brand new well under $300 and it arrived today. Not at all what I expected. Looks much nicer face to face than it does on camera . The domed hardlex looks incredibly cool and it's got some nifty features for a watch this inexpensive. Glad you talked me into it.

I got the SND-255 flight master never thought you'd do a video on one! Love that watch! And mine comes with the blue face and the orange hands. Mine is a 100 M chronograph

As you say Jory, a throwback to when Seiko were masters of value. One of their all-time great watches. Wears fine on my sub 7in wrist.

@@speed-master4697 Absolutely - I’ll only recommend based on my personal experiences owning them, otherwise I wouldn’t feel right: Citizen Altichron Ref: BN4021-02E (~$500) Citizen Promaster Sky Ref: PMV65-2271 (~$750) And if you want to break the bank you can go Breitling Navitimer B01 (upwards of $4K)

Is that watch battery powered?

I bought one when I discovered TGV. A fantastic watch. Still my day to day and I work in a reasonably tough outdoor environment.

That watches looks familiar 🤔😄 I debated buying this watch for years. Really happy I did. Awesome review as always!

The only constant complaint I’ve really heard about the Flighty, is the spring bars are soo close to the case that it can be difficult to change straps. Other than that I love mine.

Curved spring bars can largely mitigate the difficulty swapping straps. Esslinger has them cheap. 😊

I remove the bars, put the NATO in place, then put the bars back in on top of the strap.

A must have is the MN NDC strap. It feels like it's made for the Flighty.

This is the watch I wear everyday. I have the blue and white and the black and gold. They have never given any problems in the last 10 years of owning. Great watch.

I appreciate that the alarm dial can be used as a second time zone. One of my all time favourites!

I love mine, also incredibly accurate. Hasn’t gained or lost a second in the half a year I’ve used it. I use it as a rugged watch for the occasions I don’t trust my more expensive watches to survive.

My current choice for a budget Seiko is the SPC251P1. Beautiful perpetual calendar dress watch with chronograph and alarm/24h time. The silver dial looks killer with a crocodile leather strap and it has a Sapphire glass, which is usually uncommon in cheaper Seikos.

I love this one. Why haven't I bought one? Might be the first watch of 2022. Thanks and Happy New Year!

I love my Flighty. I haven't even swapped out the bracelet for a NATO yet. Busy dial, yes, but as you say, you can't beat the functionality/price point combination.

Same! Got a single dome blue AR sapphire crystal installed on mine + added a black artem strap with grey stitching and it really took the watch to another level!

A favorite in my collection and I think everyone that has a larger collection should have one! Lower price alert!!! Jomashop has it for under $200 right now and that is a steal!

The Flighty looks pretty good with pretty much anything you wear.. It looks good with a Polo and chinos. It looks good with a suit (if you'd wear a Navitimer with a suit, then you can wear this). You said it was "very utilitarian in design...almost military". An earlier version of this was was standard issue for Royal Air Force flight crews in the 80s and 90s. And that alarm face can be used to track a second time zone. Mine is set for GMT.

The smaller, cheaper option is the SND253P1/SND255P1, with the 7T92 movement. You still get a screw down crown, but only 100m WR. You also lose the alarm function.

Bought one from Long Island Watch years ago, it is a lot of watch for the money. Biggest complaint and there are tutorials on youtube and after that it's easy. Second and I consider it minor, mainly because you know what you're getting into when buying, is it's a busy dial. Well made, and to get similar watch in automatic with similar features is going to cost you a lot more.

I got it a while back after I saw it featured on TGV, as you probably know it's one of his all time favourite watches. I love it, I managed to make a minor scratch on the glass but I was able to polish it out (hard work, I did it by hand). Great looking piece in my opinion and on a nato leather strap it looks amazing.

I have the sna414, loved everything about the watch apart from the strap, the gold plate is quite gaudy. 21mm lugs made getting a strap a little challenging though, but got there in the end, the watch feels a lot more complete on a black rubber strap

The accuracy of mine is a fraction of a second per month. It is easily the most accurate quartz watch i own, not counting the atomic clock ones I own. The prices of these also fluctuate quite a bit. It used to be closer to the $200 mark (I think I paid less than $190 for mine).

I bought this watch even though I already had the SND211 Flightmaster (black dial, red chrono hand). It is a great watch, for sure, but in order to make room in my collection, I sold it. I do not miss it, and I even made a $90 profit in selling it. I just never had the connection to it that I thought I would, I think I just knew that the SND211 did the same job for cheaper, and with waaaaaay better strap options at 20mm.

Among all my auto, handwind, and quartz watches, my Flighty is top 3 for sure. I love it and wear it a ton. I swapped the Hardlex with a domed sapphire from CT, love it even more. I actually had to swap it as I put a nice gash in my Flighty's Hardlex.

Same here. I got my flighty in gold tone off of eBay. Had to swap the hardlex Chrystal for a red dome sapphire one. Along a brown leather strap and it’s my most complemented watch along my two tone omega.

Same here! Did you go sapphire single dome or double dome? I went sapphire single dome with blue AR coating because I wanted to retain the magnification effect as with the original hardlex. It looked good with the hardlex, it looks INCREDIBLE now. Also paired it with a black artem sail cloth strap with grey stitching and thr watch looks like it's worth 10 times what it cost.

I've had my Flighty for a couple of years now and find it is in my top two favorite watches that I own, just behind my Citizen Promaster Navihawk GPS Titanium. Both are similar "military" style watches with similar complications. The Citizen beats the Flighty in a couple areas. First it uses GPS and keeps the time balls-on accurate, secondly it has a Saphire Crystal and third it is made of Titanium, including the bracelet. Thus, even though it is a bit larger than the Flighty, it is light as a feather. Of course the Navi cost quite a bit more than what I paid for the Flighty. That said, I really love my Flighty and hope to get a nice NATO strap for it one of these days.

IMHO, Glycine is now the value champ. Purchased my gl1005 about a year ago, paid $149, chronograph using the Rhonda 5050.c quartz movement, 52 months battery life, 13 jewels, sapphire crystal, SS case and bracelet, still very happy at the moment.

I love mine. I put an engineer bracelet on it and it's perfection.

This watch has been on my short list for some time now. Unfortunately I had the chance to buy one at a solid discount at a fountain pen show and passed it up. But I’ll still get one when I can.

I love that people hate hardlex without having owned/scratched it. Those of us who have used it for years can usually agree it’s perfectly fine! I just picked up a flight master for peanuts £168/$180 new as it was just too cheap to turndown.

I’ve owned it for more than two years… Still gets a lot of wrist time! It is one of the best Seiko’s that you can buy…I agree! I believe it is a must have for anybody with a medium to large collection… Sure would like to see Seiko Offer this much for even close to this price in the future… But not counting on it!

As a seiko fan I wish that u do a review for the SKZ211 (atlas), all my respects to the channels, but yours is the most joy able .. keep it up 🥇

I've had one of these for a while, and I love it. The alarm is fairly useless, being too quiet to hear, so it's now a second time zone. Also kept it on its original bracelet, except I un-polished those center links, and put a MarineMaster clasp on it.

Nice watch, the reason I don't have one is because of the bezel ring chamfer angle doesn't give you a positive feel and grip! Had Seiko put a bezel ring like on the Padi Turtle, or Sports 5 line of watches, I would consider it! To me it looks better on a Pilot's / Diver bezel ring minus the big chamfer.....

Please check on Casio Edifice EF-527, and if you do see it, do you think it's a cheaper alternative for Seiko flighty?

I wish my SSC081 had the threaded pushers like the Flightmaster. I can't even tell you how many times I accidently bump those pushers. Drives me nuts

Love the Seiko; own the Citizen Flighthawk GMT. The GMT function is more useful to me, though Citizen's rendition leaves some legibility to be desired!

got 2 flights because I didn't want to change the bands often looking at them inspired me to buy a Navi timer the plan was to sell both but I haven't mad the move to sell them for some reason.

I sold mine after 4 months, the crown was hellish sharp, my wrist was bleeding after a days wear. Loved the look but never again.

Such a lovey watch. I bought the white dial with the blue bezel insert for the same price used. The condition was nice. Just needed cape cod to make this polished sides look new. The hard lex is touch. At certain angles I cannot see the scratches but when the light catches he crystal just right wow. Scratches all over 😁.

I love mine, i got mine for a bargain because the person i bought it from didnt know how to set where the chronograph zeros out

ive had mine for a few months, its a great watch for the price. ive had a bit of trouble with the clasp staying fastened, so i may switch to a nato. other than that, no ccomplaints.

That “snap back” chronograph re-set is the action of a mecha Quartz movement (superior), and that “satisfying sweep” is a the action of any regular Quartz chronograph (trash). I

Not my cup of tea but my brother loves it. Anyway, one con for this watch is its 21mm lug to lug size.

Thanks Jory, I like that you reviewed this watch. It is a spec monster. It is a good analog for the Breitling. it does pretty much that same stuff. Incidentally, the "slide rule" on the outer bezel is for doing time, speed, and distance calculations that are required for making flight plans and deciding how much fuel you will need for a particular flight. Jeppeson sells a cardboard construction of the same "slide rule" for beginning pilots to make the same calculations. It is a handy thing for a pilot to have. FYI...
