I'm so glad you're excited about DC VGA. It was mind blowing to see it for the first time back in the early 2000's. I remember how deflating it was to see the PS2 after seeing this, it felt like a real downgrade at least in the early years. But hey leave it to the crazy nuts at Sega to offer HD before HD even existed. You might want to tinker with Atomiswave ports for more retro gaming goodness.
@Madlittlepixel

I have a DCHDMI system, and a couple others. Tons of Dreamcast content on my channel, ive got the entire available Atomiswave set on another Dreamcast GDEMU. I think for me this just turned more into why the hell did I spend so much on an HDMI modded Dreamcast when this looks awesome on an old ass monitor lol.

480p is HD now?
A lot of monitors use Desktop mode to do some image processing, so Gaming mode will typically have less lag at the expense of image quality.

Love gaming with my dreamcast on my vga adapter. Did you also know that some games are not compatible with it? One workaround is to power on the dreamcast without the adapter plugged in. Once you hear the disc boot, plug the adapter in and there's a chance that the picture will pop up in vga mode, even though the game is not designed to display it. Gunbird 2 works this way for me.
I just love how much you're into this monitor. It's really quite wholesome big guy.
I have my Mister rig connected to this monitor, and it's awesome, the rotate is great for vert arcade games too.

same the dreamcast and mister its amazing. Having it on the side or the corner of the desk is just amazing. Tate mode for Dodonpachi any time and then back to normal for some SFII X
I've been playing for years through a vga cable to my 2012 JVC TV and I never noticed I had this same issue! Thankfully the TV also has an auto adjust option and fixed this just like you did. Thanks so much for making this video & for the fans noting it!
Thank you SO MUCH for these videos. They're very helpful when looking for options to play retro video games.
The nice thing about that VGA box combined with multiple inputs on your monitor now is that you can hook up composite or s-video at the same time and switch between that and VGA, if you run into a game that won't work on VGA.
Glad you fixed that! Now load up some vertical shooters and enjoy full screen rotated action!
I watched the video and didn't notice it either. I was amazed at how good the trees looked in Sonic Adventure 2 lol
It's so random you posted a video solution to my dreamcast situation. I bought 2 new games out of nowhere for my dreamcast and want to play them. I had no TV that would run the thing now, I bought this monitor today. Hopefully I am as excited about it as you are.
It looks soo cool!!!! Man enjoy it !! Congrats (I totally get why this is so rewarding and interesting for you)
I use a HDMI adapter and the Mclassic with my Dreamcast on a modern TV and it looks absolutely fantastic.
Good tips. So now I remember what that auto-adjust option is for. Ever since we use dvi and hdmi, that option is gone. Cuz only vga have it.
Hey Ron, the gaming mode helps with input lag. It does change the color but it does help with the lag.
I've never used a Dreamcast with a VGA cable, but I remember hearing about this, and also with the VGA to HDMI boxes like Bar Harbo makes (like the Gekko and the Akura for example) they do the same thing. Has nothing to do with the cable or the monitor but the Dreamcast itself. What I've always been told is you want to turn the Dreamcast on FIRST and when you hear the spinning sound THEN turn the monitor on and it'll be fitted correctly. For whatever reason turning the Monitor/TV on first messes up the signal for proper screen size for the Dreamcast. Again, I've never been able to try that myself, but I've always heard to always turn the Dreamcast on first before what you're viewing it on. That and never unplug the controller while it's on because you can actually short them out. And that's all the do's and don't about the system I've ever heard.
That is very interesting. Also thanks for explaining why it happens.
Not sure about that particular monitor, but one of the buttons on the monitor might do auto adjust without having to go into the settings menu.
Oh yeah I forgot about that. I did that for all the mini systems as well. I use a HDMI to VGA adapter. So I had to adjust it as well. I do gaming mode and adjust the picture brightness and all that. Another tip is if you play airplane shooters. You want to play Tate mode. Sometimes it only goes one way. But the stand only allows you to switch it to the right vertically. So it would be the opposite of the game. I had to buy a stand that can go vertical both ways right or left. For games that only goes one way and doesn't have an adjustment feature. after.

The easier way is to unscrew your monitor from it stand, rotate it, then screw it in with the default orientation being in vertical mode. You then rotate it to have it horizontal. Problem fixed :)
I use one of my Dreamcast as a VGA monitor tester. I use it to test computer monitors and CRT arcade monitors. It boots quicker than a Naomi or Chihiro and the quality is spot on.
Thanks for the videos on this monitor i was lucky enough to find this at a salv army thrift shop a couple days after watching these videos...amazing monitor!

Awesome! I keep hearing of people finding these after watching my video! Glad these monitors are getting to be enjoyed by more people!
Ya I have my setup with a acer monitor and Dreamcast and PSP look great. They both fill the screen and don't look stretched out. Granted it's emulation but both those consoles look amazing and definitely breath life back into them.
Yes, that auto adjust button can be your best friend, believe me.
The Dreamcast is a cream blast.
Helpful!
I noticed that the aspect ratio is now fixed on the white boot up screen as well. The first time you booted it, the Dreamcast logo was too tall. The later boots had the appropriately proportioned spiral. Dreamcast is definitely funky in that regard. I use the OSSC to mitigate that or play on my DCDigital hw2. Have you used the new DCDigital hardware revision? 1440p Dreamcast is sharp as a tack. Also, has a pseudo HDR mode.
Duuude! Looks amazing on that monitor!
Yea that looks amazing for sure.. monitor is a great find. You can also achieve this by using ReDream via PC. I use a display port to VGA adapter.. looks even more incredible on a CRT runnin at true 480p.. least id seen nothin like it before hand. U have to force your PC resolution to 640x480 60hz.. also 480p only locks in correctly when its the only monitor connected to my PC.. idk.. trust me, your eyeballs will know when its right lol. Ya then set ReDream to VGA and witness the glory. Def helps that I can use my video card as well to dial in contrast, color, and brightness even further than the CRT monitor can itslef. Obviously ur OG hardware Dremcast is good to go for whatever, but id check out ReDream this way if ur interested. haha Love this type of content to further dial in OG perfection. I def understand all the reasons you sought this monitor out, its dope!
I already received mine and it looks great! I just wanted to ask what brightness level do you have yours on? Thank you.
All monitors and tvs with vga have this setting, very important to do when hooking up a Dreamcast to correct the aspect ratio
I've got old pics of me using DC VGA on CRT gateway 17" monitor but you are figuring it out. CRT is best, despite what you say.

Looks amaze-ballsss!!
My 2007fpb monitor came in, I don't u derstand where that auto adjust option is. It isn't working on my monitor with the dreamcast.
My goodness that looks so good on that monitor. VGA was WAY ahead of it's time.
I'm tempted to get this exact setup for myself, but I'm curious about the input lag for fighting games. I also have no clue if the Japanese release of Capcom vs. SNK 2 on the Dreamcast supports VGA. I can't seem to find an answer online. Have you noticed anything on input lag? Thanks.
Ah that happened to me as well, but it was so long ago i forgot about it lol the colors on gaming mode is weird i use desktop always
Had a "wait, that doesn't look right" with my tv recently- playing mario kart on the switch, and the screen borders looked huge. My tv isn't that old, so the bezels are fairly small. The switch was somehow set to not fill the screen. Only thing I can think of is that it was set that way when it was being used on my old projector setup. So it may have been like that for the last ~14 months and a handful of games played through 😬
I've got the same problem but with the ossc, I can't get the image to be the correct ratio. If only there was an auto adjust on the ossc....
Are you going to do a review on the RGC component cable for the Sega Dreamcast. Should be the all in one because in 480i it can play all Dreamcast games.
How do you connect the audio RCA to that speaker? Thanks.
The VGA looks good on that monitor. At least you are using a modded Dreamcast because it would take a lot longer to swap out disc every time to show the games off in VGA. One thing that would really make your modded Dreamcast pop in the video of you have a blue Dreamcast shell with the blue swirl for the Dreamcast logo that does make your Dreamcast pop.
Your right, that monitor fits the dreamcast very well I regret i got rid of my dreamcast long ago, it was the last console i actually played, have no played games since.
this is a really good PSA for owners of this monitor. clever fix!
Dreamcast VGA looks amazing. Question about that moniter you're using - do lightguns work on it?
Hello mate does this monitor you let you play .sega's ..supernintendo ..nintendo 64 ...ps1 ...ps2 .. i have these up my loft and would love tk play them again and your monitor is quality
This is common with DC VGA - think its like a squared pixels thing in 640x480 too... do gaming modes usually have lower latency?
@Madlittlepixel
Жыл бұрын
Yeah gaming modes typically do lower latency, but not 100% sure if thats what it does here. Gonna try to find out more info as if its beneficial to have it on ill just make some color adjustments in the settings.
tell me what is the difference between Dell 2007FP and 2007FPB models
There was a post on Reddit recently where the meme was crt players will only play on a small television stating this is the only real way to play while everyone else with their huge hdtv's are going 'Wowzers!' while playing Mario. Suffice to say it was quite surprising that a lot of folks actually agreed with this. Thread was taken down and deleted, but it must have been because the mod was a crt elitist or something. Just thought I'd share that cause of how it relates to what you said in the end there. :)
You should try Sonic Adventure 1 and check the resolution in the menu of the monitor. I heard that Sonic Adventure 1 actually runs at 800x600 on the VGA box.
Gaming mode makes the colour (color) worse, but reduces the latency of the screen.

Definitely use Gaming mode in multiplayer or action games.
Makes sense to use a monitor with Dreamcast since that system was essentially a mini PC.
Pixel clock and phase is just manual adjust of what that auto adjust did.
Is that monitor have built in speakers?
Make a video about the dreammods wireless dreamcast controller .
Make a video on Exlene wireless gamecube controller .
Gaming mode is also supposed to reduce input lag.
What is the reference of the Dell?
How does this monitor handle an original N64? Just curious!
I believe the Dreamcast and Sega logos output a 720x480 image, and all other menus and games display at 640x480.
in the settings it says Dell 2007FP, but on the back cover Dell 2007FPB, why?

B is for Business, just means it was a model manufactured for business use but essentially the same thing.
Dude, if you get a VGA to 1080p HD upscaler and pop in Shenmue, it will blow your mind in a major way! PS2 is technically suppose to be more powerful, but I think that graphically it's pretty damn debatable which is better. There may not even be a winner between the two. It would be interesting to see a side by side of the games that were on both consoles, with each console connected with S-Video cables (since PS2 doesn't have VGA, and DC doesn't have component).
@manuelrodriguez9972

Yeah forget a CRT. DC was designed with this in mind. That dell monitor is going to give you better picture quality than a CRT.

Its nothing like that ;) Standard VGA resolution is 640 x 480 but the Dreamcast over VGA outputs 720 x 480. Thats it. PS: There are games that dont work on VGA at all like Bangai-O and other games like Giga Wing 1 look horrible in VGA. So there is no perfect solution for all games = you have to go VGA AND RGB for the Dreamcast.
Say what you will but I still think that 4:3 screens are beautiful to look at, no matter whether its a CRT or LCD.

On newer displays sure. But this monitor comes from a time when there wasn't so much post-processing happening on the display itself. You didn't usually have features like motion smoothing, display based upscaling, sharpening, etc. These things usually induce latency on newer displays and game mode just bypasses them all. I wouldn't be surprised if this Dell's "gaming mode" is just a ramped up contrast, saturation, etc.
@joysticksnjukeboxes
Жыл бұрын
@@requiett That's what I was thinking; there were so many dark and muddy looking FPS PC games at the time. The monitor's manual is available on the web but says nothing about gaming mode other than that it changes brightness/color settings like the other modes it is lumped together with.
