The Secret Why Korean Women Don't Gain Weight

#KoreanDiet #KoreanWomen #KoreanWeightLoss #koreanculture
If you’ve ever been to Korea then you know how skinny the people there are. Anyway, how would they remain so slim and fit?
Korean individuals are extremely mindful of the amount they burn-through in a day and practice portion control very well which translates to staying slim. Likewise, in contrast to the states, Korean transportation requires a great deal of walking and movement so their overall activity level is a lot higher. Korean food likewise focuses on many various fibrous vegetables so you can anticipate the foods to be lower in calories.
In this video we will examine how Korean individuals do to stay so thin and how you can implement those same healthy habits into your lifestyle as well.
Here are the tips that can help you stay thin like many of the people that you see in Korea.

I worked with a lot of Japanese and Korean ladies. They kept their weight down because of social pressure to be thin. Certainly home cooked meals does help, but most of them would skip meals to lose weight. When you would meet Japanese or Korean wives of Americans who had lived for sometime in the States, they were invariably obese.

You guys are hilarious. So many comments talking about "toxic" this or "starvation" that. Nonsense, pretty much nobody in Korea intentionally starves themselves to lose weight except for maybe a handful of idols. Yes, I'm Korean. The three biggest reasons are: 1) Healthier food. Korean food is rarely processed and is chock full of veggies. 2) Walking. Most Koreans walk everywhere instead of driving. Lots of calories lost just going to school, going to restaurants, going karaoke, going to the store, etc. 3) No entitlement culture. Women in the west believe everyone should be attracted to them even if they are clinically obese, else "fat shaming". We don't live with these delusional ideas.

I am korean but what she said is partly true. It is true a lot of people here do diet but we do eat a lot of fermented food like kimchi which helps digestion and almost all our deserts is fruits and Bingsu which is made out of shaved ice and we normally drink iced americano out of other coffee choices and we eat a ton of veggies even eating meat, we wrap meat like galbi with ssam and other lettuces. There is no meal we eat that doesn’t have vegetables in it. Even our chips have seaweed chips etc (although that is still unhealthy but a lot of us dont eat that many chips because people around us don’t and our parents always tell us chips are unhealthy which is true) And we eat a ton of stews and soup made out of water and we always drink tea. Although it is true we have desserts like donuts and burgers etc but we normally eat traditional korean cuisines and we always walk around. Even if people aren’t dieting, if you eat korean food. Traditional korean and not fast foods, it is hard to gain as much fat as in the west because of the food we eat. There is definitely chubby Koreans but compared to west like US, UK much less in comparison

I am an Irish woman who lived and taught English in Korea for over a year - didn’t see anything extraordinary about the various body shapes - there was a good mix of thin, a few pounds over weight and over weight. Their food choices varied between very healthy to very unhealthy. What surprised me when I was there is that they didn’t see the attraction of building muscle as a woman or staying fit - I think those views have changed now. Ps. I won the female category of the mile race in my school only coming second to the male Korean owner of the school.

I recently read an article written by Asian professionals pointing out the mistake people often make when comparing western body types to those of Asian descent. Yes, Asians tend to be smaller, but many have high body fat composition due to having less muscle on their frames. This causes them to develop obesity related illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension at a much lower body weight compared to people in the west. I was also guilty of this assumption, but now I know better. Bottom line - one cannot determine a person’s health simply by outward appearance because looks can and probably always will be deceiving.

I mean I’m a Chinese teen who has been living in Canada for 10 years (I’m 14 btw) and I’m relatively thin while still following western customs. Oddly enough, my physique seems to take after my environment because I’m curvier than the rest of my family who still live in China. Thinner too, though that may be because of my hatred of oily food. Everyone seems to love KFC and McDonald’s in my hometown, but raw vegetables are my favourites. In the village raw vegetables are like a sin because people seem to think they’re bad for your health. I eat cake too, but I bake those myself and they don’t have a lot of sugar. I don’t know if any of the things in the video actually affect their health, since there’s also factors like metabolism, eating disorders, and beauty standards to consider, but as an Asian living and breathing Western traditions I definitely don’t think it’s affected me.

Probably the same for all groups who eat healthier and exercise although its good to add new recipes to the world and gives us more choices. They used to be a rather poor country and eat a lot of rice I think I heard but now they are eating healthier. I think Japan does the same with some of their population living to their hundreds. Doesn't hurt to add their ideas and recipes along with the others.

Although the beauty standards are there, yes, but food does really play a big role. Koreans don't eat much sweets and there are many soups and vegetable dishes with minimal oils and fats. This makes the food much healthier than the food from the west which are mostly covered in butter. Fresh raw vegetables and fishes contribute to good skin and hair as well. Soups are filling, with less calories. So yes, you can eat more korean food without eating too many calories, compared to western fast food.

Define "west", because back in the Mediterranean part of Europe, where I come from, our food is nothing like your described, and it's globally known as one of the healthier cuisines in the world. There's also surprisingly lots of similarities with Korean cuisine as well. Anyway, what's healthy is an arbitrary matter, because, as a renal patient, I can assure you Korean food tends to be stressfully high in sodium (salts), which is linked to high blood pressure, and is causing the swelling of one's body (making you look fat) due to excessive water retention. Korean food is delicious, great and all, but it's dangerous to ignore the downsides, which are, unfortunately, present in every country's cuisines. Because health is no simple topic.

OMAD or eating twice a day is called intermittent fasting which is healthy to our body . Skipping one meal or two meals are not that bad as long as you eat meal that could satisfy your cravings at the end of the day . Intermittent fasting helps lower our insulin in our body which causes weight gain and it also helps our organs to regenerate. And because of it Korean or east Asian would look young even in their 60's . Because intermittent fasting increase our growth hormone and the effect is to slow down the aging process.

I'd love Korea culture food especially stew with tofu ,bean sprouts and needle fungus. In Korea and Japan, whenever they eat meat or bbq ,it comes along with fresh raw cabbage ,lettuce and Chinese mustard greens. Their rice portion is kind of small in minute bowls. They don't tend to eat greasy ,especially Japanese foods are simply plain only with healthy ingredients. These people always care how much they need to eat in a day.In western culture , hamburger , french fries, pizza, steak kind like Mc.Donald's ,KFC ,Burger King are likely their daily food. These junk or fast food mostly make them obese. However, many young people in western countries always go to gyms .So ,they too are in their shape . But final fact in all case is that most of the slim people are on diet and eat less than others or sometimes skip meal .Without effort ,we cannot create a thin and fit type of body.

This means they don't create so much body fat but also means they tend to have high blood sugar which isn't dealt with so effectively and can cause problems. The main reason is the beauty standards which they follow or are forced too. Or they may end up being bullied. I'm happy that I'm born in a country where people are not much bullied. I am from India. And the main reason why we have different body type is because of the food we eat. We Indians mostly consume carbohydrates and there is a particular reason behind it- our ancestors mostly worked in fields so the food they consumed mostly had carbs because they needed energy to work, so even we had followed the same diet. That is the reason why most of our dishes contain high carbs...

But the point is to maintain that lower weight, which dieting is not the way to do it. When you take something out of your diet, you'll see immediate results...until your body adjusts itself to what it's lacking, which is why they gain the weight back and why it's a constant yo-yo with dieting. Eating a BALANCED meal is the key to slimming down and STAYING slim. It's why Asians, not just Koreans, mostly are skinny. Asians are REALLY good about eating balanced meals.

I think it’s great to eat healthy in any culture. I’m just worried about K-pop being more popular in US. I think young millennials and zgen have done so much in creating body positivity and acceptance in the states over last few years. There are many Asian female artists who suicide themselves or become anorexic due to unrealistic societal demands. They get bullied being too feminist, too provocative, too big, too old, etc. I think people should learn to see beyond the outward appearance and learn to see beauty in a multifaceted way about a person. I would really hate for body positivity movement to go backwards.

@@Liope012 : Exactly why my first sentence started with “eating healthy is great.” No one is trying to glorify obesity. I just think there’s many facets for societal norms and pressures that the west don’t realize in Asian countries. If you ever researched body types found most ideal by different countries, you will find that many Asian countries morph the subject to extreme thin. While we all should keep healthy by exercise, eating right, and consulting doctors for the right nutrition plan; it’s never ok to change oneself by looking at an entire culture of people and say “yup let me just do what they do and then I’ll look like them”. This is so unwise to follow. I also wish people can stop skipping sentences and stop trying to be so extreme.
