I 70 and just started painting 6 months ago. Didn't realize I was that hard of hearing. I've been shouting to much. Thanks, I enjoyed your lesson on whispering. I'm eating ,waking, and sleeping pastel painting. Not too late to the table of painting.
Love your work andAnd you’re a great teacher

Thank you very much!
Hey Karen I love your painting ! I think the difference between a whisper and a shout might be a “ Note “ of color.
a whisper, a shout.... and the in-between is a 'remark'..... This is such a gorgeous painting. Remarkable!

Great suggestion! Thanks for watching!
"Shouting Marks" and "Whisper Marks"- brilliant descriptions- Marks and layers really contribute such a huge aspect to the finished painting- color light and darks, etc- are important, but marks i think really speak to an artist's capabilities and understanding- Variety in marks is also very important- I love a mix between Realism and "Impressionism"- or Even "Abstact-ism" (is that a word?) of the 'shouting marks'- mixed together with realism, it really gives he eye a treat and workout pulling the viewer into the scene more i think- The photographer Peterson used to call it 'Screaming Babies", (IE Bright jarring instances within hte scene that immediately draw attention away from where the photographer wants to viewer to look) but his idea was to avoid them in photography because it distracts- He stressed looking at the whole scene thoroughly to eliminate them- However with Art i think it adds much to the painting when done judiciously- as it also displays the artist's mastery of the media when done correctly-
I whisper, I call and then I shout! Love your result, as always! You're a great teacher and have helped me immensely with my own touch in my work! TY!!

Such a helpful tutorial! The marking voices should be : yoohoo, Hello, and HEY! 😅
Beautifully done. It is so helpful to hear your reasoning behind what you are doing in terms of color, touch and composition.

Yay!! Me too!
you're the master. In between a whisper and a shout coule be called "inside voice" lol
Wow Karen, all of your content is great, but mark making is so vital to successful painting, and it's not talked about near enough by artists. Whispering and shouting, I love it. Thoroughly enjoyed this one (and all of yours) This one really drove the point home for me. Thank you so much. p.s. you should add one of those "Thanks$" buttons above so folks can make on the spot donations! Thanks again!

between whispering and shouting, "conversational"? ;). love watching your painting demos and need to take a class with you! Inspires me to go to the Lavender festival in WA state this month!
Whisper. Talk. Shout. We used that in regards to hair colors and styles too.
Thank you Karen, a wonderful painting and an extensive demonstration of creating just the right marks! It looks like inside voice is your middle ground mark name! Thank you for sharing this amazing video with us.

That was another fantastic video Karen, even after so many years I still have to hold myself back to whisper when I start a painting, I’m getting there ,! this months Patreon is excellent as always. So would a ‘ murmur ‘ describe the in between mark, keeping to a vocal sounds.

Thank you so much for this fantastic tutorial, Karen! ⚘️ I have used about the same pressure the whole time, and no whispering at all... And no shouting at all - just some kind of "talking" ... 🎨 Think you just solved my biggest issue with mark making! 🙏 Time to try this out! 👋 Love your videos! ❤️

Great video! Maybe have whisper, conversation, and shout words for the variety of marks.
Another beautiful painting and great instruction. It seemed that the trees magically became trees. Landscapes are a challenge for me but in my sorting of reference pictures last night I came across a number of photos of fields of flowers that reminded me of you. Inspired by this video, i plan on giving them a try. I think my biggest challenge is struggling with knowing what colors to use in the underpainting.

Hi Karen .. do you have a video on using different sizes and small broken pieces of pastel to create different marks. Fir a beginner who has a whole load of full pastels it’s difficult to know whats best to do ?? Love your work 😊

Hi Karen! Love your videos as always but can you make sure your editor is reviewing the video pre and post uploading? Especially for those who are wearing headphones, the range in volume is greater than the difference between your whispers and shouts when using pastels. A little ironic. Haha. Please have your editor regulate the sound out put. PLEASE. Thank you.
@KarenMargulis
Жыл бұрын
I will have to look into sound regulation. I do the editing and I only know the basics. This is the first time I have heard there is a problem with the sound so I will need to do some studying on how to regulate the sound. Thank you for letting me know there is a problem.
Between a whisper and a shout us “use your indoor voice”
Why didn’t you show spraying the fixative? It’s important for budding pastel artists.
@KarenMargulis
Жыл бұрын
I used to show it but I got a lot of negative feedback for using fixative inside the studio. It is easier to do it off camera outside due to moving cameras and lights etc. You can watch some older videos to see me spray. Basically I give a very light spray. You don't want to get the paper wet with the spray so keep the can moving!!
“Inside voice”
@KarenMargulis
Жыл бұрын
This is a good way to put it!
A mumble 😊
Shwishter
Great demo. I think the volume between whispering and shouting is simply, "speaking."
An Inside voice - for in-between shouting and whispering
Talking.
Use your inside voice, not whisper or shouting.
Speak soft… would be between a whisper and a shout 🤷

Yes!!
In between shouting and whispering……….just a “gentle word…” ?
