Man I did pretty much the same this early spring in north Florida with zoysia seed which takes 30+ days I got it going in a week after 2 weeks of pre bucket germinating

Yeah, sure does help pre-germinating. I bet it would be even better in the fall for cold season grasses

The sun, Joe has two different blades, one for scarifying and one for hatching. I use the Thatcher this time of the year not to hack up the lawn too much. Just a scratch it enough for seed.

For lack of not overcrowding the lawn I don’t like to always seed, but I’m really excited to see the dark color of the new fireball rye seed

Way too much much work and effort for unproven results. Overseed witb a machine and get it into the soil. Keep moist until germinated. Done.. You aren't getting much seed to soil contact that way. You are wasting money on peat moss that isn't needed if you got the seed into the soil to begin with. That being said, there's more than one way to skin a cat. If you enjoy this method more power too you.

Thanks for the tips! The peat roller also helps with the seed contact . You're correct about the machine Ive used it before with very good results.
