The Secret Of Japan Blue | A story of an indigo dyeing craftsman

“Aizome”, the indigo dyeing has been deeply rooted in Japanese life. The unique and vibrant color, “Japan Blue” symbolizes the country. Also, this special color can be made only by a craftsman’s enormous amount of time, effort, and passion.
Last month, I spent a whole day with an indigo dyeing craftsman, Kenta Fujii in Fukuyama, Hiroshima prefecture. He quit a salaryman’s job in his twenties, moved to the small town called “Yamano” and started the indigo dyeing business. This time, I approached him about the secret of “Japan blue” and his thoughts on the lifestyle. Hope you enjoy this documentary film!

Amazing storytelling! I like seeing these sorts of stories pop out every now and then so it's interesting to learn how indigo is made. I've seen and participated in some documentaries covering similar concepts like this but there is something quite unique to have indepth perspective from a local. Absolutely amazing!

Thanks for checking and giving your feedback, as always! How nice of you to say that! Yeah, it was so interesting to know how indigo is made, and the material is turned from white into this vivid blue! I’m looking forward to getting involved in this kind of project in the future!
