The SECRET Mode of Puyo Puyo Champions

Ойындар

Puyo Puyo Champions isn't really a game that has a lot of content, nor was it made to have a lot. Despite that though PPC got a few big updates which added some new features, mostly nice quality of life things. However did you know among those lies a hidden unlockable mode exists somewhere within the game?
Today we're going to take a look at that secret mode and see what it has to offer!

Omg thank you so much for the shoutout....... I remember going back and forth with most puzzles, thinking they were either too easy, and ended up falling into the common puzzle design trap where i focused on making them hard rather than fun lol (and it seems i messed up the description text on some too) Whoops.

the sacrifices a puyo player makes is unmatched. we avoid touching grass, dont eat or drink and dont even sleep just so we can say "i unlocked difficult puzzles!" just to repeat the cycle to beat all the difficult puzzles for no reward but a sense of accomplishment and rickets. i am now going to attempt the pain of beating all the lessons. thank you for informing me of this schoell, love ya ❤️

If I'm not mistaken, there was an old Puyo spinoff series in the Compile days called "Nazo Puyo" or something like that. From what I know it's basically like this, but presumably with easier puzzles in the front half. It'd be cool to see SEGA's take on the formula with the gimmick modes introduced in the anniversary games, like what the mod shown here did.

  • @hiccupbro666

That’s correct. And that spinoff series got even more games, like: Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux, Super Nazo Puyo, etc.

Thank you actually! I haven’t yet played Puyo Pop/Minna de Puyo Puyo aside from quickly glancing at the wiki article and I honestly had no idea. I should take a look at it sometime as one of the only localised Puyo games pre-PPT. Thanks for putting in on my radar!

@@SchoellScrub Yeah there's the Nazo Puyo game series, which has this exact thing going on. Nazo Puyo games on the PC-98, Nazo Puyo on the Game Gear, and then Super Nazo Puyo and Super Nazo Puyo Tsu on Super Famicom. I don't think any of them have been localized, but you can mostly guess what the puzzles want you to do by looking at the context of the mission box. Like if it shows you a red puyo icon with a bunch of japanese text, it's probably telling you to clear all the Red Puyos. Specific chain, Puyo, or colour clear counts usually have a number in there to let you know you have a target number. The Windows 95 and PS2 versions of Puyo Puyo Tsu also have a mission mode. Also all the Sega Era games, starting with Puyo Puyo Fever, have an Endless Mission/Task mode in them; since all the DS games have English fan translation patches (except Fever Chuu), you can actually do those missions in English too.

Weird how they didn't make "puzzle mode" its own thing. Also, the fact that armando made a version of bad apple in PPC's tutorial is pretty neat, and this is coming from a fan of Touhou as well (Touhou and Puyo occupy the same square in my mind, probably due to them being both PC-98 original games, or at least madō monogatari, the sister game of Puyo Puyo.)

Just found out about it like a day after uploading this lol. I knew about the chaining sim which I always used, but I’ve not tried much else since I can’t translate Japanese very well, the mission mode (or at the very least I think that’s what it is) was very welcome, to get the s-rank for a 16 chain, I actually winded up setting my new chaining pb by getting a 17 chain which was nice.

You know what they say: when we needed him most, he returned. Honestly, the lessons had the potential to be great if it was only the puzzle portion and not tedious lessons that they basically guide you through. I don't think PPT2 has this problem but I still kinda got bored and gave up.
