I love how everyone on the team gets to do whatever they want with it for a day. Like the guy said, unlike other sports trophy’s, this one gets to go all over the world. I think that’s really cool

They work for the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, who keeps and updates the Cup. They actually have 3 Stanley Cups: the original from 1893, the Presentation Cup (the one that is the Cup seen on TV), and the Permanent Cup (spelling corrected) that is displayed when the Presentation Cup is out. Also the NHL does not own the Cups, nor does the Hockey Hall of Fame. It is owned by two trustees (per Lord Stanley’s wishes).

Got to visit the cup today and even touch it at the MN state fair, it's a magical object.

I got to kiss this cup when I was a kid. Back then, I didn't realize how important and cool it was to even see the cup in person, let alone kiss the thing.

Can you imagine if some prick somehow stole that thing and melted it down for its silver? That would be a nationwide catastrophe

Thanks God, the NHL does not own the Cup! ;-) It belongs to the Hockey Hall of Fame, a non-profit corporation that exists in order to honour and preserve the history of the game of ice hockey.

@Red Pilled Whitey The NHL does not own the cup. The NHL PLAYS for the cup. The cup was purchased by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley of Preston and whatever the Governor General does, is done on behalf of the Canadian people. The Canadian people own the Stanley cup.

That trophy is one big party animal

What makes it the best trophy in all of sports is how there is only one. Something about there being 52 Vince Lombardi trophies cheapens the impact. The Stanley cup has that history.

Off-season : 100 days in the hands of the winning team. Regular : at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, which I believe is the ultimate owner of the trophy. The Cup is also often shown in different events here and everywhere during the «regular» season.

There are 3 cups.... the original is in the NHL Hall of Fame... The cup we see is passed around each season.. so if the caps win the series we will hold the cup Crosby held last year... then there is a duplicate

Jean Beliveau is just behind him winning 10 cups as a player and 9 nine more as part of the Canadiens management for a total of 19 cups with his name engraved on it. NO ONE will ever match that accomplishment.

Duck Man3D5 actually there is 3 Stanley Cups. The original which is now on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame. The presentation cup which is the one presented to the team when they win it. And the replica cup which is displayed at the hockey hall of fame when the presentation cup is not available for display
