Roanoke, Virginia was pretty damn cool. I had a blast showing myself around Carvin's Cove and ended up meeting a lot of folks in the parking that had seen my videos. What a cool community that is building some amazing trails. I hear tell that there's a ton more riding to be had in this area, I'll have to come back and check it out.

Native to Roanoke. Carvins is just an awesome place and yes, hike a bike up Hi-Dee-Ho is common. Glad you enjoyed our trails! Fun Fact, I believe the fee doesn't go to support the trails in anyway. All trails are built and maintained by volunteers. BROC, Blue Ridge Gravity and sometimes Roanoke County Parks and Rec are the ones out keeping everything in tip top shape. The land belongs to Western Virginia Water Authority and the fee goes to them. Roanoke County takes care of the administrative stuff and then the local riders handle the rest.

Also in Roanoke! Carvins Cove is where it's at. I hope they build more trails off Mill Mountain and that camp ground up there.

@@jonathanheisler1 Well you know how hard it is getting the City to agree to change the use of any land around the mountain, unless you have a very large bank account....Would love to see it expanded, such a great location, lived here all my life, and have hiked up the trails most of it....
@RoanokeEastCoasters

Actually the Cove is a Roanoke City park, the 2nd largest municipal park in the country. Roanoke City Parks and Rec does a good bit of the trail work out there and has paid staff that do trail work. BROC, Blue Ridge Gravity and Pathfinders for Greenways do a ton of work as well. The fees don’t go directly to the trails but they do go into the general fund from where the money the City spends on them comes from. Hopefully the city will continue to expand their direct investment in the building and maintenance but it’s really hard to get elected officials to understand the value of that investment. It’s gotten WAY better over the years, though. We fought very hard back in the late 90s to just get the trails open to bikes and now we’ve gotten to a point where there are plans in place to expand the trail system at the Cove by many many miles.
The way BKXC talks about trails systems, I hope he one day catches the bug and sets out to build an amazing bike park and trail system. He seems to have some really great ideas.

I used to love riding the mountain biking trails in the Richmond Virginia area. Lived there for 16 years and they have some of the best trails around.
Thanks Brian. Mountain biking can be such a fun social experience. It's important during these times to show it can be as meaningful to get out alone or in pairs. You a showing the community how to navigate this brave new world safely, good on ya.
Carvin's Cove is good fun! Glad you enjoyed your time! Most unfortunately, however, you did miss OG. Cheers and safe travels! And yeah, Just the Right Gear rocks!
Good choice on Carvins! There is a ton of good riding in VA, but what you rode showcases it pretty well. Shout out to Just the Right Gear folks, best shop Ive been to!
Lots of good BKXC rants in this video! Love it!
awesome-riding my home trails!
Great stuff, Brian! Looks like some super fun trails.
I rode these trails last weekend and had a blast. You were correct when stating how well made and maintained they are. Gnarly Flow! And the climbs require grit and major focus. Thanks for the video which inspired me to visit these trails.
I find these videos so freaking calming lol. I live an hour and a half from Roanoke and it's so rad.
Great way to kick off a Monday Brian!🤘🚵♂️
Those trails are gorgeous, gonna give it a try once things calmed down

Man, right in my backyard (almost, relatively speaking!)! I wish I had known you were heading our way! With its IMBA Silver Ride Center designation, Roanoke has been enjoying a moment with regards to its cycling. Proud of it! Thanks for hitting us up on your grand tour!!
Can't believe you were riding my local trails and I didn't get to meet you. Hopefully you will come back and ride again. Thanks for giving away our secret! ;)
Carvins Cove is a great destination for riding. The climb up Hi-dee-ho is a decent challenge and Gauntlet and Hi-Dee-ho are a fun down. There are definitely some fun trails there. I’ve heard good things about Dragons Back, which is a different spot. Mill Mtn in Roanoke also has some decent trails. Great to see you in VA.
Brian, now that was a rad trail, all the twists and turns, also very fast & narrow. yes very cool. Your video's just seem to be getting better & better, Kudos to you. Enjoy this very much. Thanks Be safe and be careful.
Finally been waiting for this
I hit this trail over the weekend. You actually missed the hardest trail. Rattlin Run is across the lot from where you parked. It has some really challenge rock, tough switchbacks, rock bridges and ramps, slabs, basically all the rocks. The whole place was challenging and fun. That's for posting about it.
Awesome Fast Trails Out There! 🚲💨💨✌🏼 Good riding & the terrain almost looks familiar on some parts of the trails 🧐

Good stuff!
I am excited to see what you find in Delaware. There’s almost nothing here. I started watching your videos a few weeks ago when I got a new job that will bring me to Texas, where I fully intend to deep dive into mtb. Safe travels.
Looks like an awesome trail
Great Video!
Nice to see you out and about in Virginia. Seeing you humbled, makes me feel a little less weak! It has been extremely hot here in the last week or so. Hope you were able to visit before the heat wave. You should plan a ride here in the fall sometime during the fall color change. It's absolutely amazing scenery and the cooler temperature promotes epic rides.
Glad you made it to Carvins Cove! One of my favorite places! Should still check out Reddish Knob.
Can’t wait for you to ride here in Vermont! Kingdom trails in the NEK is the place to go, hope to see you there! So much to choose from depending on what type of riding your looking for. East haven area has some epic decents I've been enjoying of late not a bad place to start. Good luck to ya, love the vids!
pretty sweet looking area these trails in virginia by the looks of it..
My hometown trails. Beens riding there for 30+ years, and things have changed dramatically, although the core DH trails were always there. Steve owns Just The Right gear, good guy! He gave me my first job at a mother outdoor retailer back in the 90's.
"hillybillies shooting guns" I feel attacked.
Awesome trails Brian. Great video as usual. Hey bro you couldn't sleep because you were missing Sara! 🤘🏽😎
10 years in VA before TX, they call Roanoke the Colorado Springs of the East, always wanted to get there but 5 kids under 9yrs old made biking trips a no-go...so I did all my Blue Ridge riding in NoVA, here is so much good riding in that state, take a lifetime to find it all!
Just rode here on my way from my new home in Charleston, SC to my original home in” Pennsyltucky, Hillybilly Country”, PA. Pretty awesome trails! Keep it up , man!
Great video keep up the shred
Should have done the OG gauntlet, that is the jump line there and it is pretty awesome. Also, Stokesville by harrisonburg has some great trails, pocahontas in richmond, and fountain head in northern va. Pocahontas is where I live, 45 miles or so of singletrack (traditional and machine built), beautiful views, amazing features.
That’s awesome! your in my city I love the trails here, carvings cove has like 60 miles of mtb trails glad to see you liked them well the few you rode. Lol that’s why I have not moved from Roanoke yet, the mountain biking is too good. Mill mountain also has a lot of great trails.

About your ventilation issue, get a set of window vent shades. You can then leave your windows cracked and even if it rains, you won't have to worry about water getting in. You might have to make a set of custom fit screens to keep out the bugs at night, but it would be worth it. With your roof fan on, you would get some air flow and not be basically pulling a vacuum.
Omg my hometown! I wanted to bring my bike next visit to see how my trails would've been.
If you haven’t hit WV yet I’d highly recommend Snowshoe, also if you haven’t hit PA I’d recommend Frick Park, North Park, and Alameda Park near Pittsburgh, the trails aren’t half bad
As someone from Virginia I was offended by the hillbilly comment....looked to see where he was and realized he was absolutely correct.
When you come to Kentucky, you should hit up “knucklehead” loop in Versailles for some fun rocky trail. I would also highly recommend sugar camp mountain for some real riding!🤙
Carvin's Cove is on my list since I ride in VA, but I haven't been down there yet - looks like I'll enjoy it when I do. I typically ride in the George Washington National Forest and it is super chunky there and since the forest is so big there are tons and tons of trails to ride. If you ride VA again in the future and want lots of mileage and suffering with your pleasure I suggest the Wild Oak Trail.
Once you get to MD- a sleeper pick for good trails is Little Gunpowder. It’s about an hour from White Clay Creek in Delaware too- some awesome riding
Your cartographer comment is spot on!

I don’t know if you will read this, but when you visit Pennsylvania you should ride Trexler Nature preserve. They have great flow trails and they are easy to navigate. Also in the area there is Mt. Penn trails. Both places are on Trail Forks. Thanks.

it crazy to see my local trails in a famous youtubers videos im glad you enjoyed your time come back anytime \

Welcome to Virginia MTB, where even the down-hills are up-hill!
When you get to WV try out Cooper's Rock or Valley Falls. They have some trails that will definitely test your abilities. If you want something that is less packed with people, Wattersmith Memorial Park in Lost Creek, WV has some really nice trails as well. All three have had races held there, Valley Falls and Cooper's Rock has had more than Wattersmith. Wattersmith has a bike wash, bike repair area, and nice facilities.
You could spend month or two riding trails off the I 81 corridor in Virginia. Just a couple are Sherando lake and Douthat SP. While you are in Roanoke check out the Blacksburg trails. Staunton/Harrisburg area is a must. If you come East, Lynchburg has Candlers Mt and Peaks view park. Farmville has the High Bridge Trail with some sweet single track. Richmond has Pocahontas SP Ride Center and the downtown James River System. Then York River SP and Freedom Park closer to Williamsburg.
Dude, you should’ve ridden OG. It’s a great jump line off the ridge top. Carvins Cove is my go to when up at Smith Mtn Lake.
Here is a little tip. If you think your phone is overheating unplug it and let it drop to below 4% then take a really cold bottle and set it down. Charge the phone while it is next to the coldest bottle you have. And the only other thing is shut down every program. You know that if you think the programs are off just by returning to the home page they aren’t. Try double tapping the home button. I notice phones get cranky if there are over 15 programs running
Brian, if you come toward NoVA (Lorton, Fairfax, Alexandria), look me up! We have Fountainhead, Bull Run, Meadowood, Laurel Hill... Some decent local stuff, and it has been hot as hell here recently... As you are likely finding out!
Just rode this place today. Hideeho climb was no joke. Hardest climb I've ever done for sure
If you come to PA, hit up Weiser State Park. The local Susquehanna Mountain Biking Association (SAMBA) had been cleaning up the trails and making additions with a few new rock gardens. Or you can go up to Blue Mountain Bike Park which has some nice flowy tracks and of course a lift.
Bummer you didn't make it to OG Line. It's a machine built jump trail at the top of this trail system. It runs parallel to Royalty down the ridge, then merges into another trail so you get both machine built flow/jump and hand built singletrack in the same run. That trail and Royalty are my personal favorites at Carvin's Cove.

Virginia bringing the goods!
Beautiful scenery going through the woods. Something that I would like to know have you ever ran into any cryptids riding in the woods
Hey Brian, I think you should consider the signage relative to where you are. A black diamond in much of the states is like a blue intermediate in Colorado or Utah. The Rocky mountains is a whole level of difficulty over many other places...
Next trip you need to ride Dody Ridge National forest trail off parkway 30 minutes from Carvins Cove
Hopefully, you hit up Frederick or Patapsco when you get to MD.

Lol. Great vid! Yeah so many more miles of awesomeness in the area. Easily spend a week and not ride the same thing twice. Think I ran across you at top of Gauntlet. Said hi but pedaled on. Sorry for not stopping to chat.
You should get a small roof top A/C unit installed. Then anywhere you stop that has electric, which most campgrounds have, you can sleep comfortably. They also make them that are heat & A/C combined for the cold places you travel. Just a thought. I have worked outside in the heat most of my life and I don't want my house to be hot when I get home. Keep doin' what you do!!
The fast buddy haha
