Ping actually made a genius move in teaching Po how to cook. He told Po that in order to learn presumably the hardest part of his process, the secret ingredient to his soup, Po would have to become good enough at everything else. Po spent his whole life believing that what he was doing was nothing compared to the power of this secret ingredient, so it made learning every trade secret Ping had a breeze. Only when Po became The Broth Master worthy of praise from The Furious Five for his cooking his father knew keeping the secret from Po was no longer required, and that's what made Po realize that Oogway had this philosophy all along and wanted to pass it along on to The Dragon Warrior. Spiritually speaking, Ping is also a Kung Fu master. That's why Oogway chose Po.

​@@NaruSanavai about to say, as a chef, this isn't a secret. We literally build menus around mitigated food costs. It's why most places don't cross culinary bounds. For example, you won't find a place that sells tacos, carbenara and general tsos. You can find a place like a Mediterranean/Latin mix, but there won't br anything Asian on the menu unless we prepare it as specials, which we do.

One thing came to my attention here: To clarify, I am not at all opposed to the use of MSG and have it in my kitchen, but, a tablespoon in 3.5 L of water seems way to much especially when it's along with 2 tablespoons of chicken powder. I use a high quality major brand of Korean chicken powder that is a good part MSG also. It just seems like far too much. Could this be a typo?

Its just modified chicken broth. Most chinese restuarants just use 1 onion, 3 scallions, 2 in slice of ginger (he used dried ginger) salt and white pepperpcorns to taste, maybe a carrot. His also had garlic powder, msg, and a little sugar. Which is what I do at home when I make this stock.

At the Chinese restaurant I use to work at it was. Chicken carcass. Swedes, onions, carrots, white pepper, charred dried squid, salt, soy sauce sugar and cook for 8 hours. Any left over goes in to the next day's batch.

As a Chinese I figure it out because growing up, going to Chinese restaurants was very common and my parents would ask how to make the soup or stock and senses we were in San Francisco at that time for school. My dad who grew up there, he and my grandma became great friends with the people who owned the Chinese restaurants today so they told us what it was.😊

You can always go to a local Chinese grocery store or market and pick the stuff up for not too much. I cook A LOT of Asian and Indian foods. Half my cabinets and fridge/freezer isn't even in English 😂😂

"The secret ingredient is nothing" doesn't mean there isn't a special recipe, it means that there isn't one specific ingredient making the dish work, it's just really good cooking, with strong fundamentals. Similarly, Po doesn't need some secret technique, he just needs to move past his mental block and become good at basic fighting.

How about dried scallops, or dried shrimp instead of dried cuttlefish? Add daikon (white radish to make it sweeter, leeks, lots of yellow onion and carrots) but I will try from the video for sure. Thanks for tips.

I make a lot of soups and stocks as its easier for me to eat after stage 4 nasopharyngeal cancer. The biggest tip I give is that once your pot comes to boil, immediately turn it down to a low simmer. This will keep your stock or broth very clear and not cloudy. Another is using mostly bones that were previously roasted give the best flavor. I can get beef bones by asking the butcher counter often for free or very cheap.

@Runchynoi I'm 5 years out from treatment and healed about as much as I can be. What I'm left with is my new normal. It's not great but it's better than most that went through what I did depend on feeding tubes the rest of my life.
