Jiraiya is the perfect spy unless he’s trying to spy on someone who knows him personally, like Nagato. This tall old dude whose ninja headband is some gibberish that isn’t even a village within the world so he probably isn’t a real shinobi and he’s constantly acting like an idiot all the time chanting nonsense about frogs and books and some mountain nobody’s heard of since the Sage of Six Paths was young, all the while trying to get with a bunch of women. Nobody’s gonna suspect that this guy is a legendary war hero unless they already know it’s him.

'Surely the legendary Jiraiya wouldn't be peeping on women.' I've always felt like he over exaggerated his personality and tendencies to create that persona where most don't take him seriously unless they really know who he is. Then he suddenly changed tracks and is a very competent kage level ninja.

It can go both ways oil or romantic great translation, and knowledge as always naruto explained 👏🏽👏🏽

After you become a sage of anything, you're in a whole different level than the other ninja. It was very rare for anyone to become sages. So the fact that Naruto and Sasuke did it was amazing. They even said so during Narutos battle against 6 paths pain.

If you watch the anime in Japanese sub it gets explained so you don't necessarily need to read the Manga but the Manga helps with almost every anime. But nice for ppl that don't know

The land of toads gave Jiraiya’s life a new meaning, something he truly understood, as he paid respect to their trust and benevolence in the form of upholding the toads’ emblem.

actually, when she left the village during the 3rd ninja war, the reason she didn't need her headband is we got told she was changing her appearance. She'd be anywhere from an old lady to a child to a teenager to an adult, depending on who she was hiding from with her gambling. as hokage, there's no need to have your headband.

True reason: Kishimoto just didn't do proper worldbuilding and designed Jiraiya to look cool and in-universe ninja-like

I don't really buy the latter thing. Pretty much no one wears non-village ninja headbands iirc, so that's an immediate "who is this guy?"

Okay but real question. Why do any of the villages wear headbands? Like doesn't it just give them away as someone of a certain nation. Like if the Sand Village attacked the leaf village why don't they all wear the headbands of the hidden stone instead or no headbands at all? Like what is the tactical advantage to having headbands? Seems like a disadvantage especially when hiding with that shiny thing on your head or arm

I don't think that Jiraiya was a spy. He was more like a scout who gathered intel on the akatsuki. Most ninjas do scouting. Hiding in plain sight and monitoring their target. Spies need to make up a fake persona and gather information under an alias. Jiraiya bever tried to hide his identity. Same thing with Tsunade. She was a member of the Leaf but she removed her headband and lived like a civilian for many years.

The oil doesn’t make the wearer more attuned to nature energy. It attracts nature energy to make it easier for the wearer to collect it.

I mean, that doesn't really make sense for Jiraiya, because why would other shinobi do it instead of try to look like a inconspicuous person in the area. There's no reason for the headband in the first place, also, independently of Jiraiya having a Konoba headband he still wears one, making it obvious he's a ninja and not a random guy

But saying he wore it because he didn’t want to wear a leaf one is silly because he would blend in more if he didn’t wear any headband

Stated he would’ve lost too jiraiya if he had known the secret behind the paths of pain. So basically, pain=jiraiya>itachi.

@@anoniem4136I believe Itachi only said that as to fully ensure he’d be able to get out of there without coming off as suspicious whenever Jiraiya shows up because he knows he’s with Naruto & would catch on to his trap. You also got to consider why he even went to the village which the reason being is that he wanted the village elders to know that he was still alive and well & very much a threat if anything were to happen to Sasuke.
