There were no Bulgarian soldiers against Romanians and Turks. The Romanians march from Dobrudja to Sofia undisturbed. Bulgarian troops from Thrace were transferred against Greece, Serbia and Montenegro in the West. I don't know where you imagine these battles on the North-Northeast-Southeast borders of Bulgaria :D

Well, what I got was that the tsar (irresponsible by constitution) and his advisor wanted to assert some pressure before the russian arbitration for macedonia, so they ordered (without sanction from the government) a response to the serbian provocations, actually that both Serbia and Greece (that, unlike Serbia, did not violate its territorial clauses with Bulgaria, because it had none) be attacked a little... even though the demands of Romania and the threat of the Ottoman Empire were not really dealt with. Then, after the fighting had already started - big time, the government said that maybe the armies involved (only 2 out of 5) should halt a little... "Great" synergy between tsar and ministers, between politics and military affairs right there.

Imagine having to mobilize 600K troops when you have a population of 6-7 million at that time. Also the fact that mass production didn't exist at that time or at least in Bulgaria. We might have had a few major factories then but still... The numbers for manpower are insane. No wonder we had limited amount of ammunition which could of been enough if we went to war with only our fellow Serbians who we were enemies then but now we drink together, dance and laugh cuz we slavic brothers. :)

Bulgaria's population at the time was est. 4.5 mln. Mobilizing 600 thousand out of that is quite the feat, surpassed only by the WW1 mobilization numbering twice that - up to 1.2 mln, which considering the contemporary demographic structure (up to 40% were underage, unlike modern societies), pretty much meant that virtually everyone but the women, kids, cripples and politicians was sent to the front.

@@kostantislas The decision was made by Tsar Ferdinand and it was unlawful. The attack on the Serbian positions was ordered without the knowledge of the government and when the latter found out the armies were pulled back which at that point only worsened the Bulgarian situation as the army lost the initiative. It was a massive political disaster, not so much a military one. There was of course the hubris of the Bulgarian generals who thought they would manage to defeat Serbia and Greece fast enough, before an intervention from Romania or the Ottoman Empire. Yes, the Bulgarian army was stronger than the Serbian and Greek armies, but 5vs1 was not doable at any point. But one should not forget the secret alliance between Serbia and Greece against Bulgaria before the war and also how the Serbs violated the pre-war treaties by annexing the so-called undisputed zone in Macedonia. The war was a massive failure for Bulgaria, but it was what Serbia and Greece wanted and what they were pushing Bulgaria towards.

Bulgarians truly fought like lions!!!

Yeah, demanding territories from Bulgaria without fighting in the First Balkan War and saying there should be balance of power. Good for you. Now Romania is more than twice the size of Bulgaria, where's the balance of power? You should give us Northern Dobrudzha. That's what you said back then. "Give us Silistra". Then "Give us Southern Dobrudzha" etc. And after the end of the war, when the Serbs won Vardar Macedonia, the greeks won Aegean Macedonia and the turks took back Eastern Thrace, the powers in the Balkans were more balanced, but you took Southern Dobrudzha anyway. Whatever, it's in the past, later you did sell it back. No hard feelings anymore. Grave mistakes regarding the 2nd Balkan War were done here in Bulgaria, mostly by the so called irresponsible factor (reason was the Serbo-Bulgarian treaty regarding Macedonia that Serbia did not want to follow). Serbia and Greece (mostly Serbia) broke a treaty with Bulgaria for reclamation of a region Macedonia, at the end of the 1st Balkan war Serbia and Greece made a pqct together against Bulgaria and occupied land that were supposed to go to Bulgaria, it Outraged the Bulgarians but the Bulgarian Tsar was so ambitious and impatient that he ordered the Bulgarian army to kick out the serbs and greeks from that territory without informing the government, then long story short- Bulgarian army was so confused if the war has even started or was there even a war and then Romania and the Ottomans joined in to gain gree territory from Bulgaria thus leading the 2nd Balkan war

You know it’s bad when GREECE and TÜRKIYE are on the same team 💀💀

And in the end Bulgaria after 5vs1 still had less casulties....... That shows if any of these countries attacked alone they would be smashed.

The region between the triangle of Constanta, Parga and Sarajevo is Turkish territory.

The soldiers themselves were then puzzled as to what was happening. They were stopped at the walls of Constantinople, a large part of White Sea Thrace was conquered, the Rhodope Mountains too. The soldiers themselves wanted to go home because "it was time to gather the harvest in the countryside" as the majority have said. The incompetence of the politicians and the Tsar led to this collapse - after a cholera epidemic in Thrace, poor supply and an apparent underestimation of the enemy - especially the Greeks, the General Command threw a tired and demoralized army against the former allies, whom the soldiers themselves called "the Christian brothers"... Stupid, insolent and that is why in Bulgarian history this decision remains recorded as "The Day of Criminal Folly".

There was a Serbo-Bulgarian treaty from 1912. North-Western Macedonia (Kumanovo-Skopje etc., bulgarian majority, of course) was a disputed zone that could've went Serbia. The rest was agreed as undisputed Bulgarian territories. It was Serbia who betrayed us by refusing to leave. Which of course was foreseeable and doesn't mean the Bulgarian politicians did not fail utterly.

@superaconi97 I know, my friend, and you know the policy of Austria-Hungary wasn't Bulgaria's fault either. This empire preferred that Serbia expand hither. Serbia would rather fight against Bulgaria as well. It had a pact with Greece and contacts I believe with Romania and the Ottomans. The Russian empire also wanted strong Serbia so you could oppose Austria-Hungary. Romania was being wooed by both blocks so they were free to do with Bulgaria whatever they pleased. The Ottomans broke the borders, established by the peace treaty with no repercussions. Nobody wanted Bulgaria too close to Constantinople and the West (mostly England) never wanted Bulgaria (presumably pro-russian) close to the straits. All around us wanted Bulgaria to make a move and a criminal move was indeed ordered by the tsar (who is irresponsible however). The rest is history. The Balkan states are meant to be weak and to oppose each other. Common political center doesn't work either, due to differences.

Bruh, if Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania all worked together we could had taken Constantinople back

This was absolutely my nation's biggest tragedy. If it didn't happen then we'd be the Balkan lion.

It was allied with Serbia. Plus, the Bulgarian attack was folly by itself, attacking its former allies being a complete and inexcusable PR stunt depriving it of any outside sympathy, at least until the following peace negotiations. Last, but not the least, for them it was a token war participation meaning eventual gains from benevolent Serbia at a minimal risk - even if Bulgaria managed to turn victorious, Montenegro shared no border with it and was completely safe from any repercussions.

Completely stupid decision by Bulgaria to fight for more land. After second Balkan war they joined central powers, again losing side and lost territory, and AGAIN losing side in second world war but lucky not to lose more land again. Strong millitary, really poor diplomacy and political decisions.

@@Halfway-Stupidno, half the lands they ended up taking weren’t ethnic Bulgarian. They were HISTORICALLY bulgarian hundreds of years ago, but since then the Bulgarian population in those areas went down significantly.

Bulgaria has the largest population decline in the world, before joining the European Union, Bulgaria had a million and a half more inhabitants than Serbia, today Bulgaria hase less people then Serbia . It is unlikely that Bulgaria will survive the 21st century

Montenegro 🇲🇪 flag of that time is incorrect. It was red one, almost same as today's. Tricolor representation is a product of Serbian propaganda.

this is the funniest war in the balkans and Bulgaria FULLY deserved it Bulgarians destroyed their relations with Russia, did not help in the conquest of Macedonia, got significant help from Serbian forces anyways. So, before the 2nd war, Romania threatened with intervention if a war was to happen. So what did the wise Bulgarian tsar do? He didn't defend his romanian border and decided to do a secret invasion of his former allies. So secret that his own government (don't quote me on this one), nor some of his army units even knew until after it happened. This cheap land-grab attempt failed almost immediately, as both Serbia and Greece defeated Bulgaria separately, and then Romania and Turkey took essentially free land, because the Bulgarians did not have ANY units to oppose them. Greed is the worst enemy

First of all the land that the countries were supposed to split between themselves was arleady agreed upon, and Bulgaria was supposed to get Macedonia since it was ethically bulgarian. But Serbia stole it, so naturally Bulgaria invaded to get it back. Second of all Bulgaria litterally carried the first balkan war because they pushed the ottomans all the way to istanbul, overcoming many fortresses and challenges on the way.

@@quan-uo5ws 1)you guys are fighting about the central balkan region not makedonia which is Greek both territorily ethnically and historically and its the region that modern greece controls plus bitola (Monastiri) so your use of makedon is wrong and its not bulgarian its greek just like the ancient makedonians. 2)yes bulgaria was the most important in the land, but greece was the most important in the sea and stopped the ottomans from crossing THOUSANDS of their troops in the balkans, without the greek navy bulgaria would have been pushed back 3)yes bulgaria and serbia made a deal and serbia did not keep it, do you know why?? because austria and italy created an artificial state (Albania) to cut of Greek control of the Adriatic and for serbia to keep them weaker so that they won't try to annex land from austria (that went well huh?) if serbia were to give skopje to bulgaria it would have gained nothing from the war, bulgaria shouldn't have pushed their luck they had already gained enough 4)bulgaria is the one that caused the war, they did betray their earlier allies and fully deserved the consequences. It has also become a bulgarian tradition to keep invading Greece again and again only to fail in the end and complain. Then invade again.

@@borapetrovic1957 Im sure that this is what they teach you and definitely not that Bulgaria mainly carried out the war and was robbed in the end with all territories in Macedonia. I was corrected it is 5vs1 actually. Glory to the brave serbian soldier-robber, who can only win 5vs1, because we all know what happenes 1vs1 in 1885.

@@borapetrovic1957 This is precisely what your mistake is. Albania was not yours to give. Obviously 80% there are albanians so it belongs to them. Same as Macedonia back then - majority bulgarians. For you it may be a matter of wining/loosing land. For us it is a matter of liberating our people who did not desirve to be "banovians".

@@hristopan what kind of fake history is thet? im prety sure being called bulgarian in north macedonia is seen as a insult, sure there might be traitors who whod sell there nationality for a bulgarian passport but before croatian comunist tito came they were Serbian before ottamans came to balkans ..albenia north macedonia were just provinces of Serbia then tito came and started to bulgurize them
