The SEASON OF NO (What it Takes to Win)

Want to SCALE your business? Go here: acquisition.com
Want to START a business? Go here: skool.com/games
If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
Never quit,
Alex
FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

I wish i learnt most of these principles about seven years ago. A lot of people have been trapped strongly in the matrix-- Go to school, get a job, and then slave your whole life. Many miss out on life-changing information that could have great effect on their finances. I played with the stock market sometime in 2020, and I was surprised at how well it turned out. I want to put in $90k more into the market. I heard people are making really great returns despite the downturn. Any recommendations?

Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over $250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.

It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $31k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.

Love your content Alex! Just when i needed it. Heres the List of Rules to put on your wall for the season of NO! • Successful people say no to almost everything • The season of no is a period of intense focus on one goal • Sometimes a season of no can last three months, sometimes three years • During a season of no, say no to social events, alcohol, and one-off favors • Trick your brain into thinking that saying no is actually a yes to the thing that matters most • Focus means saying no to a hundred other good ideas • Be selective on the one thing that matters most • Most plans taken to their natural end are actually pretty good • Say no to work that's below your pay grade • Family obligations are a choice, not an obligation • Say no to business contacts to stay productive • Writing down the things you're willing to sacrifice for your goal is more effective than a to-do list • Be willing to say no to everything else to allow space for productive work.

"6 figures, isolated, no social life" This can give you a short-term boost but isn't sustainable. When I read that section I thought that sounds terrible. it is like staying up all night to get a few extra hours of work. In the short-term you get a benefit but there is always a cost and it isn't sustainable. The problem is when you have 6 figures and nobody to enjoy it with. I have gone from 0 to 6 figures and my advice is have it all. Friends, family, and a social life and just work smarter and harder to have it all. You will become better and have the rest.

This video has been a game-changer for me. I've always struggled with productivity and focus, often finding myself overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks and opportunities that come my way. But the concept of a "season of no" has completely shifted my perspective. I've started saying "no" to things that don't align with my primary goals, and it's been liberating. It's not about rejecting others or opportunities, but rather prioritizing what truly matters to me. I've realized that every "no" is actually a "yes" to my main objectives. The analogy of "yeses" being withdrawals from my personal energy account and "no's" being deposits into my goal account really resonated with me. I've started seeing my time and energy as a finite resource that needs to be invested wisely. The idea of focusing on one goal at a time, rather than trying to juggle multiple goals, has also been a revelation. I've been able to make significant progress on my main goal, and it's been incredibly satisfying. This video has taught me that it's okay to let other people's dreams of me die so that my dream can live. It's a hard truth, but it's necessary for personal growth and success. I've also started being more conscious about my business contacts and the time I spend on calls and meetings. I've realized the true cost of these interruptions and how they affect my productivity. In short, this video has completely transformed the way I approach my work and life. It's taught me the power of saying "no" and the importance of focus. I'm grateful for these lessons and I'm excited to continue on this journey of growth and success. Thank you for sharing this wisdom. Regenerate response

Amazing Video! I have been coming to some of these same conclusions organically. But it is great to see someone reaffirm this and write it all out. One thing I might personally add is that by doing this, at some point you will be in a spot in the future where you can give ur family, friends, and community way more value than you ever could have otherwise. Be selfish when you are small, and be generous when you are big.

This I the exact problem I've been facing. When you have a goal and you want to get there by a certain time, it is only logical that the time you spend doing the thing to reach your goal has to be untouched by other things; sacred. Just like going to school. Do you ever say "nah imma skip school today"? Most of us don't, and by not doing that you ensure that you are getting closer to a goal. Make your craft a mandatory thing and say no. Thanks Alex for confirming this for me, I've been struggling with how much I should say no. Hearing that you had a 3-year season of sayng no sounds insane, but more motivation for me!

this comes with experience but when you do it for long enough its just hard for the first week or two if you REALLY know what you want and work for it all the time, saying no to all the bs thats out there just becomes a habit and a very good one and you go to sleep knowing that whatever you did during the day ultimately benefitted your main goal and now youre one step closer and you end up feeling superior to your past self which drives you to keep doing it, because to GROW is to change everything that keeps you weak and SACRIFICE EVERYTHING ELSE except that one thing...

00:00 Productivity can be improved through a 'season of no' 00:37 Saying 'no' is difficult but necessary for achieving a big goal 01:09 Focus on achieving one big goal rather than one-off favors or conversations 02:30 Managing personal energy by thinking of interactions as withdrawals and deposits. 02:38 Write down 25 top life goals, rank them 1-25, circle top 5, discard the rest. 03:06 Focus means saying no to a hundred other good ideas. 03:26 Innovation is saying no to a thousand other good ideas. 05:02 Avoid doing work that's below your pay grade as it can eat up your valuable time. 05:24 Learn to say no to family obligations and make a family trade-off that best suits you. 05:38 Understand that family obligation is a choice, and it's okay to not talk to family members every day. 06:12 Let go of other people's dreams for you and focus on your own dreams as your time is limited. 07:19 Focusing on someone else's business can be costly to one's own productivity. 07:25 Doing one task at a time can make one four times more productive per unit of time compared to multitasking. 07:46 Considering the real cost of interruptions, such as the 4x increase in time it will take to complete a task. 07:59 Being mindful of the decision to say 'yes' to interruptions in relation to the cost to productivity and achievement. 08:05 Considering a 'season of no' where the focus is on sacrificing activities that do not align with achieving the big goal.

2:38, 4:17, 7:03, 8:11 everything else on maintenance so that you can put max energy into the focus point and actually have it grow instead of spinning your wheels trying to do everything complete focus, sacrifice everything that isn't moving you forward because if it's not moving you forward they're holding/dragging you back. 1:02 Season of No: When you’re saying no to social events and hanging out don’t think you’re being antisocial. You’re actually saying yes to the work, you’re delaying gratification. You are buying your time back. This is just a season until you can replace yourself. And if you had said, yes, you would feel bad for doing so because guilt block pleasure. You do not have fun having fun if you are procrastinating. So have fun doing the work (instead of monetarily, choosing to have fun) knowing that you’re setting yourself up for much better future unrestricted/non-guilty/relaxed fun 1:11, 1:37 8:47 this is focus (what if feels like to delete socials and just sit there doing work or nothing else to do)

    1. Focus is not about saying yes to the thing that matter the most but Saying No to all other thing. 2. When you have said No to all other things you are left what the thing that matter the most. 3. If you say Yes to thing that don't matter, after a while the thing that matter the most will obviously say No to you and the things that were approaching you wil say No to you 4. Either you goals dies or theirs 5. Tick your brain into saying NO is actually saying Yes to the thing that matters the most 6. Write down all your goals and then select yp 5 and say NO to all other goals. 7. Being able to say No to all things to have a placed for being more productive. It's All About Your Priority

True. I took nearly a year off from socializing when I started my first business. Friends didn't like it and always said I should stop being a stranger, but its worth it. Now I keep the balance but lost some friends which was a good thing. Its a good filter. True friends stick by you.
