The Search for and Purchase of a Vintage Project Pickup Truck: How We Found Our 1966 C20 Barn Find

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In today's episode Sean discusses our decision to purchase a project truck, and the history behind that decision which began several years ago. Originally Dave and Sean wanted to recreate the truck that their Great Grandfather owned, and started their family business with. They felt it would be a fitting way to mark what will soon be the 100th year anniversary of the business. That original truck was a 1948 Ford F3.
Sure enough, shortly after they began searching for a truck like that they found several that caught their attention. They met with the owners and learned a lot about these vehicles along the way. While trucks are definitely a passion at The Brothers Workshop, they admittedly didn't know much about these older vehicles. They learned a lot during the process, but most importantly they learned that when it comes to price on these old trucks, anything goes. It's unbelievable what some people are asking for older trucks, and how sometimes you can find a gem for next to nothing. As the brothers were choosing between the F3 that their great grandfather had, and blazing our own trail with a Chevrolet, they located a pristine 1966 Chevy C20. The very truck that they eventually purchased.

    Great video and an incredible truck! Your advice definitely holds true. I’ve been searching for the right C10 project for almost 4 years now, but it just hasn’t lined up for me yet. For me, I’d rather buy a non-running truck with a super clean rust-free body that I could keep as original as possible. Your C20 is a Holy Grail find for sure. Can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with it!

    A super clean, rust free truck that doesn't run? No wonder you've been lookin' for 4 years. That doesnt happen. If they look nice, they run. If they dont run, they're beat to hell and rusty.

    Hello, I'm new to the channel and I would like to now if you guys works on renovations. Peple on KZread really likes to watch this kind of stuff, including me. Why don't you guys post more videos about it, nice editing and put the music volume lower, because it's almost the same volume level as the voice and it confuses the watcher, just a tip. I would love to see new content. Keep up with the good job :D

    What are you, 6 foot 8? I'm 6 feet and I used to be over 300 lbs. I had a '50 F-1, and not only did I fit behind the wheel comfortably, I even chopped the top 5 inches, and STILL had headroom, even using the original seat! In fact, it had more room than the 61-66 Fords I've tried to get into, with their super deep steering wheels.

    Hey Donell! Thanks for watching. Sounds like a few inches really does make a difference. Your truck sounds rad too! We're both over 6ft and closer to 6'8" than 6' so, the 1948 Ford we wanted was very uncomfortable for us. They Chevy in the other hand was very roomy. Thanks for watching!

  • @TheBrothersWorkshop

    @TheBrothersWorkshop

    Hey Chris! Sorry for the slow response. If you're still looking for a truck, find something that you can drive while still being able to work on it. If you buy a non running and driving truck, they can often turn into nightmare projects. Also, look the truck over top to bottom for any bondo or major body issues. Body work and paint can become a nightmare. Good luck with your search!

    The difference between no money and limited funds is huge, its a no brainer if you have no money to buy a driver, as buying a project is going to cost a bomb unless you do all the work yourself, here in Australia, a top line paint job bare metal ( one colour) is going to cost you $15K-$20K, do it yourself about $1000 for quality products, labor is about $100 - $150 per hour for mechanical or electrical.

    You can have all of the money in the world, but if you dump it into a rust bucket you won't have any when you are done. It doesn't matter how much money someone has, it all comes down to what they want and what they want to spend their money on. If they want a project car but also want to save money for other things in life, a driver that needs less work is the smart choice.
