This documentary "The Sea of Fishing Nets and Garbage" was made on the basis of the results of scientific research carried out by the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology within the framework of the program "Preservation of the Caspian Seal Population", initiated by "Tengizchevroil" company. In 2020 the abandoned fishing nets were collected off the coast and around the Tuleny (Seal) Islands on Caspian Sea. The Tuleny Islands are very important for the preservation of the historical habitat of the Caspian seal. After all, these islands are called Tuleny that means the Seal Islands. There used to be hundreds of thousands of seals on these islands, but because of fishing, shipping, and hunting these islands are no longer visited by seals.
