Now seeing that these results were observed on caucasian and asian hair which typically has a thicker cuticle layer, is it safe to say African hair has an ever higher sensitivity to heat due to the thinner cuticle layer as well as the kinks in the shaft where water escapes much easier?

Yes!! I’m so annoyed that African hair was left out of the study but hey Ho! We always are just have to do with the nuggets of info we have && yess that would be my conclusion too! We already don’t have a lot of cuticles etc! So it’s likely we are more sensitive to heat so we have to be extra careful xx

Hydration(inside the cortex) = water Moisture (outside of cortex the cuticle)= oil We need a balance of hydration , moisture and protein. I always wondered why some shampoos and conditioners said hydration Vs moisture.

True! Xx but the oil is not a moisturiser. The oil seals is in the water which helps to keep the hair moisturised, because on the surface of the hair (cuticle) water evaporates whilst the cortex is good at regulating water by itself, once you’ve straightened your hair there is no water if you apply oil to dry hair it’s just oily not moisturised xx

Amazing video!! But this leaves me wondering... and this may not be completely related but, I have seen that air drying the hair is more harmful than using a hairdryer or a blow dryer, but consistently using these heat tools can lead to protein loss and ultimately heat damage... how are we supposed to use heat in a way that is not that harmful?

Soo this is the thing, air drying leaves the hair wet for longer and wet hair is very fragile, you want to dry your hair in the quickest way to prevent it from remaining in its wet state. If you saw in the beta keratin image I shared, wet hair is also in beta keratin phase which is prone to damage, its one of them where you have to pick a struggle and do what you feel works for you but blow dry heat doesn’t cause the extensive damage that straightening heat does && I myself would always recommend blow drying xxx

Hey Nadine would you say the Lador Lpp Treatment is a moisture rich deep conditioner, protein rich or a perfect balance.

It’s a perfect balance, It’s good for people who are protein sensitive but still want to incorporate a protein DC often. I would still use a stronger protein treatment once a month-6weeks though xx

So I went to get my hair washed blow dryer and flat ironed and I think it was flat iron without using a heat protectant…long story short a 2 weeks later I went to wash my hair and at least 50% of it will not curl. First time my hair has been straightened in 5 years. I watched your videos and I’m wondering where to start, should I use the aphogee two- step and olaplax 0 at my next wash day? Or should I just start with the aphogee first or olaplex 0 first? Or should I just wait a few more wash days and try to see if the curls come back? Right now my hair is not dry it’s quite soft not moisture overload soft but just feels pretty good. I where a twist out so I styled it as such and it’s a mess because of all the straight hair. Please help :)

Hey! Okay first I would wait a couple more wash days, and use your choice of protein DC and see how it goes from there if after 3 washes your hair is still in the same sate then it’ll be time to do damage control. The first wash can sometimes be deceiving especially if there are still silicones in your hair preventing treatments from properly penetrating etc. although 50% is alarming usually it’s the odd curl here and there. I would 100% recommend OLAPLEX No.0 as a bond builder to actually repair the heat damage Aphogee will be good at strengthening the hair to prevent breakage whilst you nurse your hair to health xxx

@@naturalnadinee thank you so so much! I don’t usually use protein deep conditioners (i was always so worried about my hair being dry). I have use the shea moisture manuka honey hair masque which has some hydrolysée rice protein in it but would you be able to recommend a protein DV? Also if it turns out that my hair is damaged after the next 3 wash days should I do the aphogee or olaplex first or do them both on the same wash day? I’m new to using protein so not sure what’s the best process is.

@@ashleyversher1694 if you do I would say try the curl smith bond curl first (this is a mix between bond builder & protein treatment) that will help you gauge how your hair reacts to each, then OLAPLEX No.0 for a stronger bond builder then after a few weeks the Aphogee protein treatment. I wouldn’t recommend doing them both on the same wash day if you’re not used to protein xx
