I always wanted to catch a barbel from a river and thanks to you and your informative videos in my two trips to the Ribble this month I cought three barbel and all of them where double figure including one of 13lb and two chub well over 4 lb. All fish recorded on video. I think it`s safe to say that I was extremely lucky. Thanks again mate. Hope to meet you at the bank one day.

Congratulations and it would be an honour to have a Fish with you one day! Well done on your 13 lb fish as there are not many people in the Ribble 13lb barbel club. Thanks for watching the videos and your lovely comment

Some great tips and great advise Ian, it would be great if you could make a video on the banks of the Ribble showing us all how you would use these baits in a real fishing situation. I saw a great video that Danny from Dannys angling made on the Ribble and i suggested that if you two got together (as he says you know each other) and made a video it would be awsome, what do you think about it? All the best.

I do know Danny and we have had a fish together in the past, there will hopefully be an opportunity to do a collaborative video if Danny is game, I am! He is a great bloke. Thanks for the advice and of course I feel a video coming on doing exactly how I use these pellets in my own fishing! Thanks for watching as always

Tip fish 4mm pellets on a band. On a water where 6-10mm are common but hemp is used in a spopper etc. stop using massive hooks go down to a strong wire 12-14 hook and the results will change. Stop over feeding in one go. Think 🤔 drip feed every few mins a few pellets and a small pouch of hemp cast along a line working the swim rather than cast sit and wait for hours

Good advice Gary! I have done this, it’s almost like you are working a float swim. It works well especially once you have identified that barbel are the predominant species in the swim. This tactic is deadly for roach! A 2lb Roach is worth 3 double figure barbel in my eyes! When I want barbel and other species like big roach, dace, chub… I often go small on one rod and work a sleeper rod on another productive line. These days I often use 1 rod. The sport can be that good on the Ribble that a 2nd rod just takes away the focus. Perhaps I will make a video using your tactical advice! Thanks again Gary! Will give you a mention

Also worth using a black cap feeder with micros in and using the smaller pellet on a band with lighter hooks and lines

It’s not a science, common sense.

what is common sense to some is intriguing study to others.Practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the barbel’s physical and natural world through observation and experiment with baits over a prolonged period could be seen as a science but I get your point mate
