I am a Somali American, to see the pain and suffering these children are going through - is heartbreaking 💔. My siblings and I used to go to one these (camps) I refuse to call it a respectable place. Our father found out (through us) we were getting whippings. Once he heard of it, he took us there straight away and said to them “if you ever touch my children I will kill with my bare hand”. Thankfully we never went back. I don’t have a good enough relationship with him now, and he’s back in Africa but watching this I thank him deeply. May these children live a happy, normal life.

I was beaten mercilessly too by my Arabic teachers and my father encouraged it. There was a beating everywhere growing up in Ghana. In school from Mondays to Fridays, in Arabic school on weekends, and in the hands of my own parents after school. I have scars on my legs from beating. IT NEEDS TO STOP

You're right to blame the parents, but considering the hard life and poverty they suffer, most of the blame should be directed to the government and society.

Total respect to the reporter. I hope he will keep pushiness for justice for the marginalized. This was one of the most painful features I've watched lately and I can't imagine the mental health toll it took on him.

I left Islam because of these kind of treatment. NEVER EVER AGAIN I was beaten when I was in madrassa learning the Quran and yet they say Allah is ''merciful''.

The level of resentment in my heart for parents who allow their children to be tortured in this way. They continue to do this to these poor kids because they are confident that the parents will do nothing. I’ve never seen such evil. If parents will not protect their children who else will?

My son was bruised by his music teacher. I was 8 months pregnant. She said she didnt do it. I told her if she touched him again she would regret it cause l would beat the crap out of her and file charges. We could share a cell. Lol. Amazingly the bruising did not happen again. He was about 8 years old. It really affected him.

When I was 12 years old in 1982, the principal of my primary school beat me up bad one morning. In 2022 I went back home at the age of 52....I found him old and vulnerable. I beat the crap out of him. I felt so good. I've waited that opportunity for 40 years. I promised my self that morning he was bearing me up that one day I'll come back and make him feel what he had done to me.

I’m Sudanese American and currently writing a Thesis on this. My heart hurts for these children and I would love to speak with Al Fath just to understand the case submitted to the court a bit more

Unfortunately, I married one of these men. He is broken, so broken. His spirit was so bright, but he is traumatized and can't deal with his pain. These schools should not exist.

I'm extremely disgusted as a Sudanese, this must never happen to our boys regardless of what religion, children must be protected by all cost this is permanent trauma to these kids, these wicked men must be given maximum punishment with a quick court process.

Sometimes I talk harshly about countries like Sudan and Somali and their people.But I can see how wrong and I am. The whole system is flawed.If kids are being tortured in the name of religion imagine what kind of a future they have.When you see people from these countries trying to come to Europe or US. They’re running away from this and other unimaginable horrors. I will forever be kind to everyone despite their dementia because everyone is definitely fighting a battle. Even these Sheikhs,they were probably tortured the same way and never given a chance to learn that there are better and kinder ways of dealing with children. This whole system needs to be dismantled.

The parents are to blame! How do you just leave your young child for months without checking in? If your child says he is been abused, check for signs! Scars don’t magically show up on a child’s body! I feel so sorry for the boys! The judge should have passed a guilty verdict after 3 no shows! The whole system is corrupt and all the “officials” are useless.

The parents were raised the same way, attended these same boarding schools, and probably faced more brutal punishments- without any outlet to complain or even allowed to have an opinion on the actions of adults. Don't be so quick to judge.

Ok I lasted 54 seconds. Hearing those slaps and the child screaming was enough for me. It's 2020 how the hell is this shit actually happening!!!!

I can't stop crying when I see how they're punishing the innocent children 😢😭 but I ask my self why does parents allow there children to be killed like that

God intervened, he was tried, found guilty and his judgement was death, may all involved in this wickedness suffer the same fate.

Wishful thinking. He had a car accident - not the invisible hand of god swooping down to punish him . Why would god sit back and allow countless children to suffer ? To continue suffering in chains of all he had to do was swoop down and stop the torturers? After you pray ? Please get up and take action !

How as a parent do you get brain washed by anyone regardless of whatever conviction to let such atrocities happen to your child. Parents are the first line of defence and protection for children BEFORE ANY RELIGION or STATE.

I can’t believe there is so much evil in this world. These poor children deserve better and I haven’t even watch the video yet.

I have to commend this fine journalist for being so brave in confronting the sheikhs and trying his best to get the authorities to take action. The most disappointing thing is the almost fingers-in-the-ear attitude of the authorities who have the power to shut these places down. They weren't at all interested in his evidence.

Omg these people including parent should be sent to jail for a lifetime with 100 lashes a day.

These “schools” are in Senegal too but I have never seen or heard of abuse to this extent. When I asked a family member of mine “Why is it that the government cannot enforce a ban against these “schools” or introduce some kind of surveillance/laws that will regulate how things are done?” The response was simply that this is so deeply rooted in our culture/society, whomever was to try to speak against these religious leaders will suffer severe consequences.

If the cops or child services saw kids being chained up and scars all over the body, they would be shut down immediately and the teachers would be charged with crimes. Thats the difference between the west and Islamic countries. Authorities will act in western countries., in Islamic countries authorities will not act because they are part of the same religious system, and there is a lot of fear, threats and intimidation in Islam.

Your right, I've never heard of these schools in better developed countries, but it's not to say that the abuse is everywhere, just not to that extent, but we deal with more of the parents who do the most harm to their own children.

My heart is heavy after watching this.

What kind of parent doesn't believe their child over someone else. My children are my world, I will always take their word over anyone else, always.

It is so shameful the parents ignored their kids saying they were being mistreated. they wanna cry how horrible it is, and they're so shocked and justice must be delivered. They need to have justice brought against them, in some fashion, because they left their kids there, and chose not to believe their kids who spoke up.
