The Emperor himself noticed him one day and thought “Holy Shite! A promising Commissar who isn’t a complete asshole? A guy who actually has a conscience and tries to keep his subordinates alive?! I’m gonna keep an eye on this kid, maybe bend things his way now and then, and things might actually get better for my damned Imperium!” …And thus, Cain’s amazing personal luck 🍀 bloomed, putting him in in all the wrong places at the right times and helping him achieve unlikely victories over substantial odds.

Caiphus Cain is an interesting point in regards to your ending interpretation of training. He also knew his back story. There's also the short story about Comissar Yarrick's backstory where it explains how he was raised as a youth. It seems pretty clear that he knows his past. The indoctrination and mind wipe part might be more about altering how they react to certain things more than anything else.

It makes me wonder how many imperial noble houses disappear every year, in any given sector, for the Schola to be so wasteful of the students lives. There are even noble houses who send their children there knowingly ; who would send their children to be mindwiped and turned into monomaniac Administratum executives ?

Man, this lore starts off so mundane, at least as far as 40k is concerned, and then it goes full retard and it does so really hard. When I was reading about Palpatine's personal guard in Star Wars, the book mentions how their last part of their training is to duel another trainee to death, and I was thinking that it's really stupid. And then comes in 40k and says "we can do better". And so the imperium kills of what has to be millions of perfectly usable soldiers and workers every year just as one part of stormtrooper and commissar training, after they invested thousands of hours of training and indoctrination into each and every of those trainees. Ah, gotta love some of that grimderp.

@@ABorderPrince No, I understand that. But it feels like in-universe propaganda. This element of lore isn't my thing. That's all I was saying. I hope that explains it. As an addendum, I'll answer your questions: * Propaganda in regards to the regular folks of the Imperium of Man, to have them believe in this greater heroes and peoples that are more important then they. All to instill rigid and strict obedience to individuals installed and vested with the given positions. * This would be for the benefit of the Empire itself. And given the razor's edge that is canonical to the universe, it is often deemed necessary. It creates a strict hierachy of strictures so as to maintain an order enforced by legend if not by force. So, no, I didn't mean to indicate that you were spouting propaganda for someone or something. Carry on presenting as your will, I'll just be listening to your other narrations. Hope that clears it up.
