The Scene Vault Podcast -- Richard Childress Racing-Dale Earnhardt Tire Changer Will Lind Part 2

Спорт

In the second and final installment of our interview with Richard Childress Racing legend Will Lind, he discusses all the Daytona 500s that got away from Dale Earnhardt and what it meant to him personally when the NASCAR icon finally won the sport’s biggest race in 1998.
Will also tells our listeners about the Goodyear-Hoosier tire wars, a controversial decision by the RCR crew to replace Earnhardt’s missing tires at Charlotte, the transition between RCR crew chiefs Kirk Shelmerdine and Andy Petree and his own decision to take a step back from life on the road.

Great stories. Will is so humble, I get the feeling he and Dale Sr. were closer than he lets on. To Rick and Steve- I was hoping this interview would happen. Thank you. I wish there was a Part 3!

I was at CMS when the tires came off. A lot of people were throwing full beer cans and chicken at the 3 car when it came by before the green dropped. Some got up and left on our row of seats calling it pro wrestling on wheels, it was hilarious to watch. I also was there when nascar penalized Dale five laps for rough driving, then proceeded to throw yellows to give him laps back. The toe was knocked out enough to finally blow out the right front and ended his run.

Dale Earnhardt was my arch enemy I was a Rusty fan but that February day I cried like a baby and have had it hit me every time I see or hear someone talk about that day and for the life of me I don't know why it effects me still to this day!
