Can GP2 win the NBA Defensive Player Of The Year Award?

Payton plays like he came from nothing and is not interested in going back. I love the effort he plays with, his physical gifts are a plus. Very VERY rare to see a kid that comes from money have that type of oncourt demeanor. Impressive

I was at the hornets game and we were chanting “Garry! Garry! Garry!” He also got a standing ovation when he subbed out. Can’t be nothing but happy for this guy.

Could be because most NBA Teams are focused on signing Stars, trading for Stars or acquiring known established players to compete against other Teams that are doing the same thing. At a point it felt like Brooklyn & the Lakers were both trading blows on their signings lol

I remember back in my college days (around 2012-2013), GP2 was with his junior college team who made it to nationals that year. After our game, we watched this guy play. Man.......dude was straight up too smooth. You could just tell he was big time even back in a day. If you’re a hooper or have watched ball a lot, you know a real “hooper” when you see one.

I think it's moreso the Warriors system rather than the individual players that makes them who they are. They seem to have a talent not just for spotting young talent, but also for helping them focus their game.

GP II is a great weapon for the warriors. A slasher/lob threat guard in the warriors system will be so deadly. The spacing is going to open up the floor for GP II and with his athletic ability, he can sky over any guard that is defending him. If Kerr uses GP II properly we can really see the true power and fit of GP II on the Warriors.

In Myers we trust. The development of these players is due to our coaches and our staff. If you think about it, we have had two seasons that can be considered off seasons. We loaded up and now have developed players and free agent signings that compliment the veterans.

GS gives us the true meaning of "team building". Love it. I hope this will last till they get the championship this season. 🥰

My guess is that GPII didn't get picked up by other teams because he's a relatively short point guard who is not known for his shooting or passing. That said, he's a great defender and has the jumping ability to play like a power forward in the paint.

Just a helluva defensive player. I enjoy how he is intimidating players as they are bringing the ball up the court From being cut by the Warriors to probably being the Defensive Player of the Year. WOW!!!!

He is electrifying and so much fun to watch. His rookie card has skyrocketed in value on eBay. To be honest, I didn't even know Gary Payton Sr. had a son.

It's also the fact that steph rarely misses so players aren't expecting to rebound. Add the season moves forward it will be interesting to see how teams adjust.

I was asking people on various KZread channels to explain to me why GP II was not the obvious lock for the last roster spot for a couple weeks and no one had a good answer. Besides the talent and the hard work, he sees the game like an NBA native, being around so much NBA knowledge his whole life. He doesn't need to learn to lock down on defense, it is second nature.
