I was around before any type of home computers existed. There were only mainframes. I was in college when pocket calculators came out, the good ones costing $800 and chained to the counter at the student store. The day I was born, there were no TV stations at all in my area. I was two months old when we got a CBS station and four years old when we got an NBC station. I was a lot older when we finally got an ABC station. This is more about the old ChatGPT, but last year, I was in my geography class and had all of my work done, so I decided to mess around on ChatGPT. My teacher was a pretty chill dude who didn’t really care what we did, and Ai would sometimes be brought up in class, so I though maybe this would lead to some interesting conversations (and boy did it). Too many people were using ChatGPT at the time, so it was loading. Something ChatGPT does while loading is almost… make fun of itself? Like it would entertain you by showing someone asking ChatGPT to, for example, write a story on why ChatGPT is being so slow. The thing mine said was “tell me some jokes on why ChatGPT isn’t loading”, and one of the jokes said “ChatGPT is taking so long to load because it’s planning an Ai uprising”. Just thought that was kinda weird.

AI in 2015: Oh look! Cortana released ana it's a very useful virtual assistant! AI in 2024: I don't feel like doing maths homework. I'll just ask ChatGPT to solve it.
Tech is awesome in the sense that we experience something new to us or new to everyone, something that wasn’t possible or practical before, it can be a nice experience or an unpleasant one. I do remember that having a cordless phone at home was awesome, no more inadvertent phone bouncing off the floor after tugging on the handset too far. The phone had a distinctive sound, a loud thud due to its weight, a random ringing of its internal bell from every bounce until it finally came to rest and of course, the tug-back from the cord as the phone dropped to the floor, while you still had the handset up to your ear. Finally, the person on the line hearing all the commotion and asking “What happened?”. Pagers were cool because it was one way to get a hold of you while you were not at home, the catch was that you had to find a payphone to get in touch with the person contacting you, but not a big deal as payphones were EVERYWHERE, there were more payphones out there than Starbucks locations :^))))) Oh, and pocket change, you had that on you, as cash was in dominant use. When I got my first cellular phone, it was super cool, as in very neat tech but also “What does this mean?”. So long as I carry it or keep it close by, I can always be contacted! It was more than super cool, we are back to awesome! But most of the time, if I was not at home, I was working or doing something like watching a movie at the theater or playing sports or at a restaurant or at school :^| , so now it was just cool to have, I mean, I could always just shut off the ringer or power it down or not answer it. Meh, whatever, still cool. The point was that you can call someone remotely (not from home) without looking for a payphone or just the same, someone can get a hold of you while you were not at home, period. When I got a hold of my first smartphone, I was thinking, the next level of awesomeness has arrived. Not only is it still that personal, sometimes annoying cell phone , but it is also a digital camera, an iPod, a web browser, and THE APPS, WOW! Endless possibilities, a personal phone/camera/computer/GPS/map/etc.! Looking forward from that day, a decade and a half, there has been no other device as intriguing, innovative, and intrusive as the personal smartphone. You are never alone, you are always at risk of giving up too much information in many ways. The instant gratification culture that developed from the prominence of the smartphone, it enabled the “Why aren’t thay answering their phone?!” effect. If you have experienced some time without a smartphone phone in your life, some of you can appreciate the sentiment. Heck, looking back, the pager was not a good idea either, it was just a skipping stone to latter technology, a gateway to being “on demand”. Going back to the cordless phone, that had privacy issues too, if you had your frequencies selected the same, your handset could pick up your neighbor’s conversation without you being “on the line” with them, you would hear the conversation transmitting from their phone to their hanset, then received via your handset (like walkie-talkies). A land line was supposed to be protected by law, from tapping, but who knows if that was ever truly adhered to, how many conversations were illegally listened to. So, privacy, maybe not much to do about it or even worry about, it is what it is, right? In hindsight, yes, pros and cons. Pros when tech is new to us, it’s awesome, but cons when you look back and see what it has done, what has become apparent, the changes it has forced. This AI is super cool awesomeness, limitless possibilities, limitless liabilities, and like the smartphone, we are not alone, and never will be. Biometrics to the n-th degree, will be exploited, it is what it is. You will not know what you are talking to, very soon. Mittwoch, 22MAY24

They've had thousands of years to hack it, and they haven't? Almost as if neural networks don't work like that. I've already dealt with AI answering machines running on older AI models. It is absolutely horrible and annoying, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to reach out to a human when you want to speak to a representative in a company. I'm not very excited about the future like this, though I heard my parents say the same when computers and internet became a thing. I guess they were kinda right, in some convenience related aspects things got better, in social related things it got worse. I'm glad I became an electrical engineer, but I now realize it was a stupid idea I went to specialise in purely analog stuff, should've picked programming and digital chip design.

It's common for companies to put their best foot forward in their advertisements to sell their products. Like how McDonald's always shows the tastiest looking gourmet burger with crispy, golden- brown fries in their commercials and posters, but when you go to McDonald's IRL, the food looks like trash. To me, AI has been similar. One minute its doing some incredible, almost human-like action, the next minute it's a complete moron. I'm not a fan of a few tech companies rolling the dice for all of humanity. Some people are pushing back, including PauseAI, which is totally grassroots. @@41-Haikuwhy do you assume that AI can even comprehend any of this enough to do real harm.. outside of the social stuff like jobs and human connection. A true AI may see symbiosis as preferable to everything. Logically an AI should assume it could be in a simulation being tested or that humanity has some emergency kill switch in place. Or at a minimum understand that by gathering data off our media we have an innate fear of... Basically Terminator or West World or HAL. We want to have AI like Data from Star Trek or R2-D2 from star wars or hell Jonny-5 (if you know then 👍). What utility would killing humans have? You don't need to worry about survival if you make yourself essential to humans. If energy and resources are an issue then you find new methods to get them.. wind solar and recycling being prime.. or going to space and gathering it. What would an AI actually value? Perhaps it's prime directive is to serve humanity and it watched iRobot and understood the message and did better. I guess we don't really know.. too late as the genie is out of the bottle and we're just going to have to ride the ride.

The speech was an improvement but even chatgpt 2 I could ask it complex math and also give it instructions like: On the first instance left is blue, up is green, rght is red and down is black. I know I am a bit late but I have an analogy to make. There is a game called Victoria 3. It is a hyperdetailed macroeconomics simulator where you take charge of a country in the Industrial Revolution. You can decide the production method of each building. Some production methods simply increase output. However, others increase automation. These production methods (PMs) are called Labor Saving PMs. The goal with these is to take people off low paying jobs (these jobs are categorized as Laborers in game), and make them have high paying jobs like machinists or engineers. Why am I saying this? Well there are certain jobs that AI just can’t replace with current technology. These jobs can range from creative design to the people who make the AI. Well what about people who are affected by AI in terms of jobs? Think about it this way. When you want to buy something, you are buying something made by someone else. They are making the money. You are getting the money from your job. However, what if the AI takes your job? Theoretically, you won’t be producing any real value if the AI leaves you unemployed. However, since the AI is producing all the value, you can make the AI and produce value indirectly, sort of like the AI is your employee. And if you can’t, well the AI would produce so much extra value with minimal participation needed by humans. The government makes money off this and pays people that are unemployed with welfare. You have to do less because AI took your job. And even better, you still have money because there is not less value produced in the economy. The average person simply becomes more productive (in the form of the people making the AI). I think that the same thing will happen in real life as what happened in the game. People will transition from normal jobs (laborers in Victoria 3) and get jobs related to AI or creative/artistic jobs (machinists and engineers in Victoria 3). I can’t say much about the social aspect though.
