Check out my very first table I've ever built!
This one was a long time coming. For almost a year now, I've wanted to start on this, but I could never quite seem to find the courage to try my hands at making a table. As you may have noticed, they're a fair bit larger than pens or bowls!! ;)
Anyways, after somehow finding some bravery, I finally decided to give it a try. As many of you who regularly follow this channel know, I'm a big fan of incorporating wooden bricks into my projects; the floating wood illusion that the resin creates is just something I could spend all day looking at. For that reason, I just had to see how such an effect would look in table format.
Given my current woodworking experience, this wound up being quite the undertaking, and it took far longer to complete that I had originally thought it would. That said, I am thrilled with how the final product turned out, and I am definitely going to revisit this again in the future with some different wood/resin colour combinations. If you have any suggestions on what dye and wood colour combinations would go well together, I'd love to hear them down in the comments below!

A joy to see... and a beautiful table. New sub earned.
beautiful
Lovely piece of work. I don't know whether this is a table, a work of art or both 😊. Thank you and God bless.
OMG. So different and unique. Absolutely love your work ❤👍👍👍👍
Your pattern designs are so nice... glad you took those 2 bricks away, made it look smoother... good job!

What an incredible result. Congratulations and thank you for sharing in its creation.
Amazing as always, I love the look of the bricks floating in resin that you (?) came up with. I can always tell by the thumbnail who made the video and it never disappoints.

Thank you so much for the super thanks! That was totally unexpected, but I greatly appreciate the support!!
You're the bowl guy! Those bowls got me hooked on your videos man. Incredible job as always, you're becoming a master of The materials. Have you ever worked with black resin?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Mark, that's very kind of you! And do you mean opaque black resin? If so, no, I haven't yet, but I very much want to for another coffee table idea I have. I could be mistaken, but I think I've seen some use charcoal powder to get a ridiculously black pigment. I might have to look into that. If you mean black in the same way I used the blue here (transparent dye), I haven't done that either yet, but I'm also interested in giving that a shot.

@@formanwoodworking Happy new years! And honestly I meant any type of black resin, whatever you use I'm sure it'll turn out great. Looking forward to it!

Awesome looking table! One question though: what was the purpose of the epoxy step at 4:55 where you apply a small amount of clear epoxy to the edges of all the wooden pieces? What's the purpose of doing this first before pouring the blue epoxy?
I like that table, nice choice of colours

Lindisima mesa. Te felicito por tu excelente trabajo
Wow!
Simple but beautiful, I would of used threaded inserts and nicely turned large diameter screws/bolts to attach the legs as the existing screws detract from the tops finish otherwise I would gladly have that table in my room. 👍👍👍
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
I was going to use threaded inserts, but I just couldn't seem to get them to work on some test pieces I was practising on!! I don't know if it's just the oak that doesn't cut nicely or my terrible skill (probably that, lol), but I just couldn't figure it out, so opted to directly screw them in
Hermosa 💖 💖
Simply incredible! One of the best epoxy table designs I've ever seen. I have a couple of questions about the build: 1. Why did you use a jigsaw to cut the wooden planks instead of the circular saw? 2. Why did you leave a couple of pieces out in non-symmetrical spots? Looking forward to more of your content!
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! To answer your questions, 1) I actually don't have a circular saw, although I did just recently get a miter saw, which I would have used at the time had I had it then. 2) Just for artistic purposes! I had all the bricks in the mould, and it spontaneously occurred to me that it might look better if there were a few "holes" in the bricks.
One of the coolest tables I have ever seen. I am definitely going to do my own. One question - what was the step where you put the epoxy in a bucket and put some compressed air on it? Is that pushing out air bubbles?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Michael! And that was a vacuum chamber hooked up to a vacuum pump. I was concerned with bubbles appearing in the final product, so I tried to pull out as much of the air as I could from the resin before pouring it into the mould.
Great work what are the measurements on the wood bricks and what kind of epoxy
wow
I’d love to know the brick dimensions, why did you add a little epoxy first before adding the colored one. Would a beginner wood worker be able to take this on?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Great questions. First, the brick dimensions were 3.5 inches wide, 9 inches long, and 0.75 inches deep (before flattening with the router). Regarding the epoxy, because wood is so porous, it tends to let out air when mixed with resin. This can result in bubbles forming in your final resin product, which I was trying to avoid as much as possible. To help with this, I first sealed all sides of every brick to try and close off those pores before doing my full flood pour. As for beginners... tough to say. In some ways, I still very much consider myself a beginner wood worker, so I guess I'd say yes? But I have done quite a number of resin projects now, which I think was super helpful in taking on this project. Resin can be a bit tricky sometimes.
Wow looks great! What kind of router bit did you use for skimming off the surface please?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And I used this exact bit: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0000225XF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So glad you made the leap. It's beautiful! Can I ask - What size was it and how much resin did you use?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Alan! And it came out to be 20.5 inches wide, 48 inches long, and I used just slightly over 3.6 liters of resin, which was thankfully a good bit less than I had expected I would need!!
Really love the design. Do you think it is sturdy enough to serve as a regular kitchen table to eat at with family and friends? :)
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And possibly, but I would have probably made a slightly thicker one if it was going to be used as a kitchen table
Very beautiful table. It's stunning. What's the kind of wood you used? It looks like a type of oak! And what was the final dimensions of the table. Again, it's stunning. Very well done
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Matthew! And yes, it's oak, and if I recall, the final dimensions came out to be 4 feet long and 20 inches wide.
This is awesome! What pigment did you use for this project?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, John! And I used a transparent sapphire blue dye from Let's Resin: www.amazon.ca/dp/B07VHD4QJY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
ngl my initial thougt was it to be a gaming desktop
Nice! What does the pressurizer do?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And that's called a vacuum chamber. It pulls a vacuum inside of the pot and draws all the air and bubbles out of the resin before I do the final pour in the mould. This step just helps prevent bubbles from appearing in the final product and make the resin appear more like glass.
It looked like you were doing a climb cut when adding the chamfer. Any specific reason for that?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Hi Stuart. My apologies, this was the first time I've ever used a router, so I'm not super familiar with the terminology yet. I had to google this. Am I correct in that you're asking why I pulled the router in the same direction as the feed? If so, the very first pass I did with the router when I was straightening up the sides, I actually used a push-cut and I got a decent bit of tear out on one of the bricks. I have no idea if tear out is more common with a push-cut compared to a climb-cut, but I decided to switch directions and just see if the results were any different. I had no tear out after that, so either the direction mattered, or that one brick was just prone to tear out to begin with. The climb-cut was definitely a challenge to control, though!
Why the two bricks missing?

@@formanwoodworking ok, I buy that 🙂.
I absolutely LOVE this! 2 questions: 1) why do you use a jig saw to cut the blocks? and 2) how strong is it? Like site on the middle strong?
@formanwoodworking
Жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, glad you like it! First, I unfortunately don't have a miter saw yet, so it's the jigsaw most of the time. And second, I wouldn't risk sitting on it in the middle, but it will easily handle any typical/normal coffee table stresses (drinks, plates, or even holding your legs up).
👍👍👍♥️🌹
Explaining what you are doing even in some text would be great. Why not pour more epoxy and route less.. showing what you think would be useful
