"THE SANDLOT FOREVER" documentary (25th Anniversary)

Ойын-сауық

youtubedanteluna.com
My name is Dante Luna. I'm a 31 year old visual artist from Boston. I've spent the last few years photographing America. I've focused mostly on art, pop culture, history and nature. So far I've photographed 48 of 50 states and one of my stops was Salt Lake City, Utah. I was by myself and I found access to the original field from the Sandlot. I was able to work on images of the field. I shared those photo online and I eventually met Marty York (Yeah-Yeah). Marty invited me to come meet some of the other guys and that began a domino effect that led me to making this film. I spent time with the cast in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Florida and I went BACK to Salt Lake City and turned my footage into a documentary that helped capture the energy of the 25th Anniversary of the Sandlot movie!
Features interviews with David Mickey Evans, Scott Evans, Patrick Renna, Tom Guiry, Chauncey Leopardi, Brandon Quintin Adams, Shane Obedzinski, Victor DiMattia, Grant Gelt, Marty York & Marley Shelton.
THANK YOU to Marshall Moore, 25th Anniversary event team, Austin Horton, UTAH FILM STUDIOS, Salt Lake City Bees, Bobby Capone, Dynasty Sports Collectables, Michael Rosa, Galactic Productions, LLC, Dan Farr, Diego Chaves for his Benny the Jet animation and Ed Smith for his Sandlot painting!

What got me is that he created Benny Rodriguez into the Hero, as way forgiving the Chicano kids that bullied him as a kid when he was growing up. That fact he washed away the prejudice & cleansed his dislike he had against them & to create one of few of Movie Cinema Latino Heros is Amazing.

One of my best friends in college passed away in a drowning accident several years after I met him. He was a huge personality and packed a ton of life into his 23 years. We talked about how we both loved this movie growing up. His mom asked me to speak at his funeral. I closed it out with “heroes get remembered, but legends never die”. He was both. This was fun to watch.

It's not just the movie, but the memories it brings. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood in Indiana, most of the Dad's worked at a steelmill or other blue collar profession. The homes were mostly 3 bedroom ranch style roughly 1100 sq ft on average. Sandlot takes me back to that time, baseball in the neighborhood, I can remember all the names of the guys to this day. Dan, Jason, Jake, Pete,Mark, Shawn. The sleepover was something we did every summer, it's almost as if they could have filmed this movie in our neighborhood, and it wouldn't have lost anything

If you look on Instagram, Marty York who plays yeah yeah posted in 2018 with an explanation why Mike isn’t there, on the 25th anniversary jerseys, Marty went to the fire station and talked to Mike for a good 3 hours, Mike signed the jersey and Marty just said that entertainment isn’t what he wants do anymore that it’s not for him, yes he’s a firefighter and he barely gets time off, once when he got home he wasn’t home for two hours and got asked to go back as there as a big fire! Mike is a hero no matter what he has done in the past he saves people’s lives for a living, he puts out fires for a living, yes he made one mistake in life but so have some of the other cast of the sandlot, if you read Marty’s post he said that Mike said most of the stuff that’s on the internet about him is fake news, Marty also said that in 2005 he got accused of abusing a woman (this is Marty I’m talking about btw) and most of the stuff on the internet is all fake too! If you watch the video of what happened on the night that man got attacked you can see Mike was not doing anything you can see on his face that it was a bad idea, he also said on the video when the man tackled the other man to the ground and I quote “Eric get off him, not a good idea man!” Then Mike was the one trying to communicate with the man, he was the one that done CPR on the man! I hope you understand and respect mikes choices in his life! He also said he might turn up on the next reunion he doesn’t know just have to wait and find out

It’s interesting how he thinks he made the bullies the heroes, I think he is the hero. He took a bad situation from his own journey and changed it to something positive. How many children who were bullied watched this movie and felt better about themselves and their lives. How many peoples lives did this movie change for the better. If by chance, you are reading this, the hero is YOU❤

" It's not the way it was, its the way it should have been" i think those words pinpoint why The Sandlot is a classic. even those of us who didn't live this childhood can travel back and experience it through this movie.

The Sandlot is definitely my favorite movie, and it's so great to get some behind the scenes details about it. I was so excited when I finally got my first pair of PF Flyers a few years ago, but am super bummed that it looks like the brand is being let go to drift off now. They haven't posted on Instagram in two years, and their website has no new releases. Disney announced there was going to be a series with all the original actors, but I haven't seen any news about it. Hope it's still in the works!

Aside from being a die hard Yankees fan. Just the nostalgic feeling of kids playing baseball during the summertime, getting dirty. From sun up to sundown, living innocently with childhood friends having our own playful jokes, and routines. Makes this a great great movie. I get choked up sometimes remembering the good times we use to have with no fear of the senseless nonsense these kids endure today.

He doesn't understand and it's not just a movie...he may have changed history for himself but he's changed the future for many others and impacted/slashed changed other people's lives. Benny made me a better person he made being kind cooler than being a bully. I looked up to him, wanted to be like him and as a father to two young boys myself now, im elated to be able to show them this movie and to hopefully use it as a tool to show them how to be. You helped change the culture that made your childhood terrible and protected others from that . Thank you sir

First off I'm 37, and grew up watching this movie a ton. Having said that, there are quite a few movies from the 80's and early 90's that are nostalgic and I love. The Sandlot is the ONLY one I can think of, that is STILL great, NOT based solely on nostalgic value. For example I love The Never Ending Story a ton, but it's garbage by today's standards. If I watched it for the first time now, I'd laugh and shut it off provably. Sandlot absolutely holds up. When you don't rely on a ton of special effects, movies can last. "Hero's get remembered, but legends never die"

Sandlot is so much more than just a baseball movie. It’s about the importance of childhood friendships, the struggles of first crushes, fitting in and getting out of your comfort zone, and the joys of being a kid during summertime, both on and off the baseball field.
