The Samurai you weren't meant to see. . . and a Perpetual Calendar
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today we're going to checkout two awesome watches; an automatic Prospex diver, and a super cool perpetual calendar.
1) The Seiko Samurai in dark blue. Probably my favorite Samurai: www.longislandwatch.com/Seiko...
2) And of course, the Seiko Neo-Classic Perpetual Calendar:

I have the perpetual calendar - excellent watch, i love playing with the various complications
Over two years since i bought my black and grey samurai from you Marc and i still love it. Not a mark on the Chrystal (i admit to babying it because i appreciate it’s handsome new looks) and it works great. Looks awesome on a bond nato too. I prefer the nato to the original spec bracelet and now you’ve just mentioned the cool Strapcode bracelet options available, I’m seriously thinking of checking them out. 👌🏻👍🏻
The Seiko Perpetual is such an under appreciated watch. I have the white and black versions. AND This is a Leap Year so I'll be recording the date flip when it happens.

Talking about Seiko SPC131 - alarm subdial can be used to track 2nd time zone in 24h format. Don't know why Seiko is not telling it loud, but there is a page in manual which tells how to do it, and this is not the only Seiko chronograph which can do this functionality. There are also some solar models with the alarm, which can be used to track another time zone. According to what I just said this watch is quite incredible - Perpetual Calendar + 24h chronograph with 1/5sec. step + 2nd time zone in 24h + alarm. Battery life is about 5 years.

How can you use the alarm to do this? I have a Zeppelin chrono with an alarm subdial, and once you set it, it shows the alarm hour. It doesn't change, unless you set it. I don't see how your alarm can work as a GMT subdial, except if you mess up the reference time. But even then...
I always forget the quality of the seiko until you show them. They are great watches thanks for the insight

I heard that alarm! Great watches! I love the Samurai and daily wore mine for the longest time before getting my SRP777 Turtle. Even on my 6.5" wrist, I think the Samurai wears very well. Of the "entry level" Prospex watches (they are entry level, right?) the Samurai and the Turtle are my absolute favorites. As for that perpetual calender, I love the railroad hour markers. I'm getting into chronographs recently (especially Seikos, of course), and this one is definitely on the radar. There's a lot going on with the dial(s) and such but it's a handsome piece. Islander Samurai with NH36 so we can have a Samurai with both day and date wheels? ;)
I bought my first samurai from you two years ago the PADI.

So about the SPC131P1, the bottom dial shows the 24hr time all the time but when you set the alarm it shows only the alarm time until alarm goes off? Or does it go back to showing the 24hr time again after you set it? Thank you.
Wishing that you carried the Coutura Solar Perpetual Calendar chronographs. No battery changes! Seiko claims these will run 5 yrs, but my experience with the batteries these use is more like 3 yrs and that's generous. Use the month/date feature, or especially the chronograph much, and you'll be replacing it more often.
Pin and collar afford a very secure interference fit. Screws can easily loosen on there own without a drop of locktite, and I always worry about stripping the threads. It just a nightmare if the don't know and lose a collar.

As a curio, it's briefly interesting. As an actual WATCH, it's so complex that it takes too much effort to read accurately. A glance often needs repeated. Mine was half price so I'm guessing these don't fly off the shelves by the thousand. Want a PerpCal? Get a GShock.from Casio. Same information presented but an IQ test isn't needful to read it quickly.
They updated this in 40mm and sapphire it's definitely an improvement
The Samurai is a great watch. I one time I had 5, I recently sold 1. All of mine are not made in Japan. I’m really not liking what Seiko is doing with there recent releases. Saw that they have a green Samuri, it’s over $600. Your price for Made in Japan Samurai is very fair.

Amazing review, I love your format, and the shots do the pieces the justice they deserve. I still don't understand all the hate for pin and collar though. Link removal is easier for your typical watch owner, and they're not going become baggy and fall out. Also, you have the strength of the whole pin holding the bracelet together, instead of a few minuscule threads that must strip more easily. What is it about these two formats that makes one universally acclaimed and the other so shunned?

Correct . . . 2100 skips Leap Year and you'll have to spin the date forward from Feb 29th to March 1st. Leap years are skipped on century years except those evenly divisible by 400, which means 2000 observed Leap Year, and the next one to observe it will be 2400, with 2100, 2200 and 2300 skipping it. Of course, that's presuming the watch is still working in 2100, and that it's running on Feb 28th - Mar 1st 2100.
Any idea if or when this watch will be back in stock ?Orient Kamasu Green Dial Automatic Dive Watch with Sapphire Crystal #RA-AA0004E19A

"Modified Gregorian?" The Gregorian calendar includes the century years not being leap years except if multiples of 400. So in a sense it is a modified Julian.
Every time I see a Samurai I wasn't previously aware of I think, "Oh, _that's_ the version I like best." I'll never understand artificial market segmentation; reduced sales become self-fulfilling prophesies. Samurais are special because they get the subtle colors other non-luxury Seiko divers never do. And then there's that short, fat hour hand. And the date-only complication you'd otherwise have to pay more for with Seiko.

The turtle is a big watch I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist and it's on the borderline of being too big for me. I've also had mixed results with the 4r35 movement. Had a save the ocean turtle and it ran -35 to -45 seconds slow no matter what I did. Got it regulated to -5 and 2 weeks later it went right back to running incredibly slow. Ended up swapping out the dial into a SKX and putting everything else in a drawer. Have a mini turtle padi edition and it runs like a top. Have had 3 seikos with 7s26 movements that I've used and abused and they all still run within -7 to +12 which to me is acceptable. I guess everyone's mileage varies.
