Awesome that you ran into some other Criterion enthusiasts! Enjoy those awesome pickups. The only one I haven't seen is Time Bandits but all the others I know are really good.

I'm incinerating my wallet via multiple summer travels, so I'm only buying "Perfect Days" this sale, which is a blind buy, but I have to imagine the guy who brought me "Paris, Texas" and "Wings of Desire" made another perfect movie 😀😀

Hi, James! I visited my local B&N Friday morning and picked up the following titles: After Hours, Anatomy of a Fall, Mr. Klein, Peeping Tom and The Servant. Mr. Klein and The Servant are the only two I haven't seen yet, but I look forward to viewing the bonus features on all of them. I still want to buy Floating Weeds and Mona Lisa as well. Kevin, those are some nice pickups! The Servant is a good one. I discovered that film with the Criterion edition last year.

Anyone else who only uses Amazon for the July BN Criterion sale? I do this because of no hassle free returns and don't have to order multiple discs to get free shipping. Downside is that Amazon has always gradually rolled out the matching 50% off sale prices, sometimes a couple weeks into sales month before the disc I want finally drops. Glad you like Anatomy of a Fall, is on my hot list along with Bound, The Devil's Advocate, Godland. Speaking of Godland, one of Criterion's partnership Janus titles, I read recently that Criterion is already or soon to be under new ownership and new owner will own both Criterion and Janus. Very interesting, makes me wonder if in near future we might see a new direction for Criterion, subtle or not? Enjoyed, thanks James.

I like the in store experience at B&N but it is nice to have the option of going through Amazon for the titles that have the price match. As far as what the direction the new ownership will take the company, we shall see, but the early indication is no major changes anticipated at this point.

I too highly recommend becoming a member at Barnes and Noble. With all my purchases, I have saved a lot with the rewards. I picked up a handful of Criterions today including To Die For, girlfight, which I recommend, and Lynch/Oz.

I just got denied at Barnes and noble they had them all out and said it wasn’t for sale.

Picked up the 25 new releases needed since the Criterion flash sale, and put a hold on the 6 coming throughout July (5 Criterion main line and Anselm on the Janus Contemporaries sub-label). Only drawback is that my Werckmeister Harmonies 4k was missing its insert/booklet. Also, I share a Barnes and Noble with a friend of yours, Sue from Movies&Sue, so if she see this, my apologies to her, for scooping up all the discs ;)

Whew! 😅 I kept trying to keep it in mind, ever since Guillermo, Del Toro‘s Pinocchio was released in 4K! Miracle I remember to think of it every month or so… finally I can snap this one up! Maybe The Life Aquatic too! (No 4K on the latter, but… oh well…)

In this B&N sale, I picked up the following titles in 4KUHD-Blu Ray format - some new but many are older releases: (1) Risky Business, (2) Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, (3) Peeping Tom, (4) The Long Good Friday, (5) Don't Look Now (RIP Donald Sutherland!), (6) The Roaring Twenties and (7) One False Move. #2, 4 and 7 are blind buys. I was also eyeing the new Eric Rohmer box set but heard there are some technical problems with some of the discs (authoring issues, color blocking etc.). So, currently on the fence for that one. Please let me know your thoughts on that box set. Thanks again. for the recommendations.

Somewhat disappointed- Of the 15 titles on my list, 7 are “temporarily out of stock” (and no option to order for when come in), and one (Monsters and Madmen) doesn’t look to be on sale in the first place. Of the 7, Amazon is only matching the price on 2.

I really wanted to get some criterions this month but a friend of a friend was selling the Savage Guns and Blood Money spaghetti western boxed sets from Arrow and I decided to use my budget on those. Blood Money is out of print and I hate paying out of print pricing but I really wanted it so I made an exception for this set. So I'll hold of on criterion until November. Are you picking up anything from the kino sale? I'm holding off on this one as well but they have a ton of titles I'd like to pick up.

Hey, Hunter! That Blood Money Arrow set sounds really good so enjoy that one. The Criterions will still be there in November 😀. I don’t have plans for any Kino pickups in this sale but may catch the next one.

Hey James, do you think Criterion will ever release a 4k of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me? It's my favorite David Lynch film, and I keep worrying that once I pick up the blue ray, Criterion will announce 4k upgrade.

Good question, Andrew. The blu-ray edition was based on a restored 4K transfer so it would be a matter of using that same 4K transfer for a 4K release and add an HDR grade. It’s hard to say which titles will be updated and when honestly. If you love the film and want it on physical it might be best to go ahead and pick up because there is no guarantee a 4K upgrade will happen for every title.

Is risky business part of the sale for Juy 2024?
