The Sabbathday Lake Shakers

The Sabbathday Lake Shakers and the Shaker Museum are pleased to announce the release of this Shaker video. This mini-documentary about the Sabbathday Lake Shakers was organized, underwritten, and created by Chilton Furniture of Maine. Our deepest gratitude and a hearty thank-you to Chilton Furniture for this educational tool, which will allow us to much better reach the public and raise awareness of the Sabbathday Lake Shakers.
Additionally, we are pleased to invite you to the gallery in the Shaker Museum Visitors' Center that will feature our favorite selection of Maine-made, handcrafted cherry furniture from Chilton's Shaker Collection in combination with other artisan-produced crafts. Our relationship with Chilton is exciting - their business, with its family-like team, emphasizes creativity, integrity, quality and value that is reminiscent of the Shakers, past and present. It is an honor that they have joined us at Shaker Village.

If possible, make plans to visit the Shaker Village in New Gloucester, ME. Better still, attend a genuine Shaker meeting there on Sunday at 10 A.M. Meetings are open to all. You will get to see and hear Brother Arnold in person. He is possibly the finest man I have ever met...Stephen Provost...

Scott Ludlow Sister Frances is my great aunt on my mother's side and this video made me nostalgic. Spent my summers there growing up as a child and it was so wonderful. Brother Arnold and Brother Wayne tought us what real work ethic means. I remember the big white Newfoundland they had to herd the animals. So proud to be a relative to one of the oldest original Shakers in the world.

Please, what is the hymn that is playing at the beginning of the video? The lyrics and tune are beautiful but I can't find the source anywhere on the internet. Thank you!

The best answer I can give is that they hope an individual will choose to adapt to the Shaker way of life and make a commitment to become a member...
