I agree. I don't know how I would have coped without Dima. There are other reporters but they are not as good as Dima. Even though he makes alot of exaggerations. ( i. e. oh they took this building which means that the whole village will get captured in 24 hours...🤦‍♂ etc.) But he is still the best in terms of an overall reporting on the conflict.

Ukraine on the back foot. They do not learn that trenches and fortifications are so WW1. Defense in depth with combined battlegroups fought on chosen ground is the only way they can go. Manstein doctrine but it is impossible the Ukrainians will win. Strategically the Russians are so much better. Finally they have become the force that everyone fears.

They seem to have learned their lesson. And haven't learned it, they are increasing their weapon and ammo production and sending more and more to Ukraine.

It's not that the Ukrainians don't have fortifications in the Kharkiv region; they have lots. But it's more important to call their "fortifications" what they really are - trenches. Ukraine has made layers upon layers of trenches because that's all they can produce. But trenches alone don't suffice for proper fortifications. A proper defense must control movement with mine fields, suppress enemy gatherings with artillery, and deny the enemy the use of airspace for CAS and recon. But Ukraine doesn't have the manpower or material to do any of these things even with Western assistance. And so they just make more and more trench clusters even though they are of marginal benefit.

Well the Russians build solid fortifications, however the tactics that were exhibited by Russia early on in the war also have Parallels to the Great Patriotic war as well. Soldiers who were completely overwhelmed by Blitzkrieg tactics being told to attack etc. It was not until later in the war that the Russian defence in Depth doctrine was perfected and adapted, and Armies actually allowed to retreat, rather than stand and fight according to Order 227 No Step Back!

It took the Ukies 6 weeks to take around 80 square miles - it has taken a relatively small Ruskie force just 1 week to take around 200 square miles. Had the Ruskies been equipped with Western “wonder” weapons rather than with shovels then they too might have struggled guys.
