The Runaways: Tragic Details About The Iconic Band

Ойын-сауық

In the '70s, rock and roll was a boys club dominated by bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, and The Rolling Stones. But before bands like Hole, The Donnas, and The Bangles there was The Runaways. The all-female rock band recorded and performed together from 1976 to 1979. Even though they never found success in the United States, they gained huge followings in other countries like Japan, and their music has gained an appreciation and following in later years. The band’s lineup included rock legends like Joan Jett and Lita Ford. However, The Runaways had its fair share of tragedy, and members of the band have faced loss, abuse, and heartache.

I saw the Runaways back in 1977 when I was 15 years old. A friend told me there was this “all-girl” rock band coming to town so I just had to check them out. Nobody had heard of an “all-girl” rock band before! The opening bands were Cheap Trick and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. What a gig!! Of course at the time all three of these bands were virtually unknown.

I loved the movie about The Runaways. Kristen Stewart absolutely nailed Joan Jett-who has very particular mannerisms. For those who haven't seen the movie, it is purely from Cherie's viewpoint and definitely not comprehensive, but it gives a peek behind the curtains of what it was like to be in a mid 70's rock band.

For people that have gone through as much as Cherie, the only way they can get out of their past is by forgiving and forgetting. So that's why she forgave Fowley and even took care of him.

These were some cool girls. But boy did they have some rough days. It makes me sad to know what happened to some of them, particularly Cherie and Jackie. Heartbreaking :-(( It would have been cool to have known them and be part of their band (even though I have no talent! LOL) except for the drugs. I've never done a drug in my life. Anyway, to Cherie and Jackie, I'm sending you many positive vibes that the rest of your lives are very blessed ♥

Well, it may not be politically correct to say it, but older guys drooled over them, too. It wasn't only teenage boys. Their manager and producer Kim Foley wanted as big of an audience for them as possible. So there was definitely a sexual element in their presentation, and the audiences showed up for it!

Not 1 mention of Cherie being a World renowned chainsaw artist !!She is awesome I have seen some of her work on videos on this platform ! Cherie took care of an evil person who exploited teenage girls for monetary purposes he was also accused of physically abusing them !! It just proves Cherie’s heart was bigger then Fowley’s Ego at the end !! I think for sure Cherie’s voice hasn’t changed a bit since the Runaway days !! I love this group from the moment I heard them !!
