When the 3000 series "launched" and ppl bought crazy scalper prices everywhere I just kept thinking "nvidia must be seeing this and thinking: ok, we can even sell them for THAT prices and people rip them off the shelves"... We kind of showed them that the price that just doesnt matter, at least for enough of ppl to sell out their cards.

I had the same thought about the scalpers, I don't blame NVDIA for having higher prices this time around as the scalpers showed that people were willing to pay more for the cards. I wonder if the 4080 also launched at 700 dollars would we just have the same issue as last time with scalpers. Might be different with crypto miners being less of a factor this time, but who knows, we may never see the 700 msrp xx80 card again lol

I waited until the day before the 4090 launch and bought azotac 3090ti for little less than a grand brand new on amazon. that same card is now...and again nearly 2000 bucks.

Yeah I have a 2070. Usually wait 2 gens regardless for a new card...but 20 series suck at this point in a lot of games. MW2 Im hardly getting 120 fps with lower settings at 1080p on my 2070.

@@Siegefya Yes, it's a shit game and poorly optimized. Don't let one crappy game determine if your GPU is weak though. My 2080 Super eats everything else I throw at it. But like you say, I get around 110 fps tops except in Gulag in Warzone 2.0 and it dips to 70 often so that is depressing. It really is just lazy ass devs though just not taking time to optimize their games.

I think the 4080 is a great card. It is a beast, with great power efficiency. Sure, the pricing is rather bad, but everybody seems to be considering the US situation. I live in Eastern Europe and here, the price of the last generation never even got close to MSRP - with the mining fever and the scalpers, all gpus were ridiculously expensive. It is nothing new for us. It is also often said that there is no point buying the 4080 because with just a little stretch, you can get the 4090 and it is stronger. Again, might be true in the US, but not in my area. Here, the 4090 costs a good 40% extra over the 4080, that really does not make it a "little stretch" or even a good deal. I decided picking up a 4080 - for a quite good local price - I play on 1440p, with no plans to go over to 4k anytime soon, so this card is going to be perfect for me for a looong time. I could also put it in my current rig, with plans of upgrading the rest sometime next year. I couldn´t have done that with the 4090. Also, the price difference between the 2 gpus just simply did not justify the 4090 to be a good choice. Definitely not in my region.

Hey I play at 4K on my 4080, so even if you wanted to go to 4K you'd be fine. I get 75-95fps on Overdrive on cyberpunk with DLSS and FG, while the 4090 gets around 100-120. The 4080 is amazing for 4K and you'd love it.

My biggest issue with the price is aside from the FE, you're not finding a card for $1200, most of them are 1400-1500 which is just insane for a 80 series card. They are just pricing the average person out of the market which is sad.

@@mrtuk4282 Here's a better idea... Instead of whining about halo-level prices, how about you WAIT for the RX 7800 XT which will probably be about $350 less than the 7900 XT but less than 10% slower. That's how it works with Radeons. If you don't believe me, look up the performance difference between the RX 6800 XT and the RX 6900 XT on TechPowerUp. Then look at the two MSRPs. You'll see that one was $999 and one was $649. So, instead of crying about how much the RX 7900 XTX is, how about you just buy SMARTER? It's not exactly rocket science you know.

I'm still waiting for AMD because the graphs showed the 6950XT giving a decent fight to a 3090 TI so I'm wondering how strong of a fight the 7900 XTX is going to put up.

Even at a conservative +50% compared to the 6950XT, the 7900 XTX should beat the 4080 in raster pretty comfortably in both 4k and 1440p, but we'll see.

In terms of pure cost to performance, the 4090 is a better value than the 4080. They are both very expensive and neither is an objectively good value but the 4090 is worth the cost premium over the 4080. Having said that, many of us just buy what suits our needs and don't buy the flagship product if we don't need it. I went with the 4080 because it was still a massive upgrade over my 3080 and chose not to spend the extra for the 4090. I am still able to max out the refresh rate of my 4K, 144HZ display in games like Forza Horizon 5 even with the graphics settings turned up to max. The card still allows me to use ray tracing ultra in games like Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K and average 70FPS. For 4K gaming, the 4080 is a great option even if it is a terrible value.

Yeah and for anyone with 3d rendering workflows, nvidia is still gonna be miles ahead for most software. Even new flagship amd gpus would be a downgrade to my 3070ti. That's a big reason I just opted to get the suprim 4080 for ~1100

Looking at the comparative charts, I'm seeing pretty much 50% more performance across the board compared to the RTX 3080. Yet this comes at a 70% higher price. That's a hard pass from me. I'll be waiting for the RX 7900 XT and XTX reviews. If they deliver close to what's been promised/shown by AMD, it's going to be a much, MUCH better value proposition (with an actually higher performance increase than pricing increase over the 6950 XT). Honestly have to say I am deeply disappointed by Nvidia this generation. I would've loved to get myself a 30 series GPU but alas the crypto-craze and scammers made that purchase prospect void. It's just now that the 30 series GPUs finally got down to actual MSRP over here. But with the 40 series, Nvidia hiked the prices up MASSIVELY (owing to a good chunk of greed but also because they chose to go with the most expensive silicon they could've possibly chosen) AND then doubled down on scammy tactics like trying to bluff that "4080" 12GB past the consumers at 900 bucks and let's be honest here, compared to previous hardware comparisions between xx90, xx80 and xx70 tiers that chip isn't even a 4070 Ti. These proportions of CUDA cures to the rest of the line-up would traditionally be more in thr xx60/60 Ti ballpark ... and Nvidia fully intended to sell that for 900 bucks before that bluff was called. No, I'm definately eying the 7900 GPUs. If they deliver on the promises the XTX should be trading blows or even outperforming the 4080 in non-RT performance (and I don't care enough for RT to be paying premium for it) and be considerably cheaper. And if those GPUs disappoint, I'll wait to see what a 7800 GPU looks like or I'll just get a previous generation 30 or 6000 series GPU and save a LOT of money.

I bought a 4080 FE, not concerned with the connector, I don't think it can draw enough power to burn it up as you mentioned. Very satisfied with the performance, I game @ 1440p and every game I play with ultra settings I'm seeing nearly 200 FPS at all times paired with a 7700X.

@@isaacevans5893 I recently upgraded to 4080 from 2080 ti. My cpu is i9 9900k with 32 gb 3600 mhz ram. I have great fps at ultra settings at pretty much every game at 1440p as well. Just make sure you have a case that you can fit a 4080 without any issues cuz it comes with the same size as 4090!

Sitting here with a 6700xt powercolor card completely satisfied. I have never understood this 4k crze when 1440p makes more sense.

A brand new 3090 in Sweden is around 1700-2400 usd and a 4090 is around 1900-2700 usd. These prices are insane!

Only for VR all these new overpriced cards really make sense. On a monitor, even a big one, WQHD is more than enough and therefore you 3070 is more than enough as well. Why so many people spend so much money on these cards considering VR remains a niche, that is a mystery.

It probably would have been a good idea to mention to your viewers that AMD’s 7900XTX may end up trading blows with the RTX 4080 for $200 less Just for those that don’t pay attention like the rest of us to do.

7900XTX is 8% slower than a 4090 at 4K in Cyberjunk 2077, a game which typically favors Nvidia. Reference 7900XTX is underclocked by 500Mhz and 150W, and is missing an 8-pin connector compared to AIBs. If the 7900XTX can get as close as 10% in 4K gaming, that means we will be getting around equal 1440p, and better 1080p than the 4090. AMD cards are always better at lower resolutions than 4K.

Yeah that would ALSO be good to mention. Because anyone wanting to go amd should know how badly behind even their top card will be in dlss3 games But apparently the main feature of the cards is unfavourable to the narrative of the review so is omitted. Because the reviewers wouldn't want you to know that a 4080 will take your ms fs 2020 4k framerates from 50 fps in new York to something like 100 fps (or 150fps with a 4090), while every 3000 series and amd card will be stuck at 50 fps because it lacks dlss3 It would be good to know for people wanting a card for that game Same story in cyberpunk

@@Tom--Ace right, but not every game supports DLSS 3, and not everyone will want to use DLSS 3. Which is usually why we use pure rasterization for benchmarks, although DLSS 3 is a really good improvement over 2. FSR 3 isn’t out yet, but when I comes out, it may be able to trade blows with DLSS 3. There are talks that FSR 3 may utilize AI, especially considering how much of an FPS boost AMD is saying it gives. All speculation though, AMDs cards haven’t been reviewed and FSR 3 isn’t out yet.

Jay, just for the record, Lovelace is not 4nm. It's "4N" which is just a slightly improved version of 5nm...but it's still 5nm.

I really want to see the 7900 XTX benchmarks for comparison. My new rig is going to have one of these big flagship cards. I never really seriously considered the 4090 the way I did consider the 3090 almost 2 years ago. the 4080 seems like a really great spot, but I am also very tempted by the 7900 XTX. I want to see that comparison because I do think it's between those 2 cards for me.

Honestly it depends on the game you play, the 7900 is better in some games but the 4080 performs better on average, the 7900 also lacks raytracing performance and has many issues in vr and issues with drivers that will hopefully be fixed, I’d wait until the 7900 xtx settles and decide from there

Last year I did 3 builds. Two with a 3080Ti FE, 3090 FE, Asus ROG 6900xt. I'll be doing all AMD builds again in the future after seeing and feeling the difference of what I felt to be true performance of that card over the Nvidia software uplift.

0 improvement in perf/price over the 3090Ti where it is listed it's just so much more expensive Nvidia just fudged the numbers with frame generation shit. You know it doesn't retail at msrp

Honestly, I bought a 7900xtx to give AMD a chance, what a stuttering mess that was about as good as my 3070ti in VR. Bought a 4080. Buttery smooth, and it literally fit in my case with half an inch to spare. Couldnt go 4090 even if i wanted to, because my psu is 850 and my case isnt big enough. I am so happy with my 4080

The only "con" in this card is it's price man :/

curious to see where the RX 7900 XTX slots in this chart.... If I take 1,5x RX 6950XT it most of the times gets between the 4090 and the 4080.... If that's true, that would be a very nice deal..

Was planning to wait and see for the 7800xt, but a 6900xt TUF went on sale for $800CAD at my local computer store and I jumped on it (upgrading from a 1650 super). Was sold out throughout Canada the next day, so I think I made the right call.

That's a solid card. Its basically a 3080ti. The ray tracing isn't a good. But you get more raw fps and the 16gb will make your card last you longer

@@hburners361 Passmark G3D; 6900xt@26,000, 3080@25,000, 3080ti@27,000. So they're all stacked up pretty close.

I went with the 4080 FE to retire my EVGA 1080Ti SC. I wasn't happy about the cost, and I would have gone with the 4090 instead, but that's even more. Plus I would have needed to upgrade my 850w PSU as well. I've been happy with my 4080 though. Compared to my 1080Ti, it's a HUGE leap up. I hope AMD kicks themselves into gear though. I'd love to move from Team Green to Team Red to pair with my 5900x. But they still lack too much on FSR & RT. They also slack on video encode/transcode. Plex doesn't even support AMD cards for HW ac either unfortunately. Maybe when the time comes to refresh my 4080, AMD will have met or surpassed Nvidia. Time will tell. For now though, I'm loving the 4080 FE. My bank account wants to kill me though lol

The 4080 will be more than enough until the 60 series comes out then you snag the 4090 for a much lower price and be set damn near forever….as long as ur fine with playing at no higher than 3-4K

Please always include 1080p fps in your videos. I will probably rock 360+hz monitors in 1080p for a very long time. These benchmarks really help with knowing the fps difference

im personally waiting to see the AMD offering, and too see reviews... lets hope AMD comes out and slaps Nvidia arounds a little in the 4080 price range.

I managed to grab a 3080 fe at the end of March, right before availability picked up. Once it did I started to question my purchase slightly. Ever since the 40 series launch, I feel better about my purchase each day.

Military exchange $1199 no tax… I went from a 3700x and a 2070 super to the 4080 FE and 7700x what an incredible Leap in DCS and MSFS..performance

I've been a Nvidia guy for a long time but they priced me out.

I had a 3090ti and now a 4090 for work in 3D Studio Max and Unreal Engine and Graphic Design projects, but I have to admit AMD did a heck of a job on so many angles from technology and production to Prices and made no real promises they would have to back track on. AMD nailed that pricing and Spec/Performance point.

How big of a improvement is the 4090 in 3D Studio Max?

For the price to performance metric, I'm holding off until next month to see how the 7900XT does. I don't really care about Real Time Raytracing, so I feel like AMD's cards will be a better value proposition for me looking for a rasterized native 4K gaming card. Assuming they perform well once reviews are out that is.

What is the most difficult to run title you intend to play? That's what it's all about If you want the best cyberpunk experience, can't go past 4000 series. Raytracing definitely makes the game look a lot better. If you like Microsoft flight Sim 2020, you definitely want 4000 series. Dlss3 is a game changer here. Even a 4060 or 4070 will run the game better than a 7900xtx. If neither of those games matters to you, and you are playing games like red dead redemption or GTA 5 etc, then 7900xtx is a great value choice, although you should really ask if you need such a powerful card for comparatively easy to run games - modern games are generally hard to run when using RT, not rasterisation. If you like VR and want the best possible VR fps, then 7900xtx may be a good choice, we will have to see reviews, although 4090 stands head and shoulders above the others here. However, depending on resolution, a 24gb card such as the 3090 might actually outperform the 7900xtx or 4080 in VR (we will have to see), due to the very high vram requirements at extreme VR resolutions (the 3080 and amd 6000 series were terrible compared to the 3090 in VR)

Same for me. I don't care about raytracing yet. When games begin using raytracing as the whole lighting system it'll look amazing and i'll start caring about it, at its current form its just used for horribly performing shadow or reflection setting in games.

I am a bit confused that you would call out on the 4090 melting story with "one of the manufacture is the defect" buddy....no one has confirmed that....all that is confirmed...we have 2 suppliers....that's it. Not even noting if the plastic is even at fault.

I have to respectfully disagree with Jay’s take on this review. Regardless of the power cord melting issues, which in it’s own right, is an embarrassment that it hasn’t been thoroughly tested before being sent out to the public, the price is utterly atrocious. It’s not even “subjective”. The bang for your $ is laughable. You should expect better performance at each generation with incremental price jumps at worst.A 3080 msrp was $700. A markup to $1200 doesn’t justify the performance jump, that’s already expected because it’s the next generation. I really hope people wake up to this, it’s sad enough as it is that we’ve move from 980ti’s msrp of $650 to now a 4080 (not a 4080ti) having such an egregious jump.

At $1299? Naw I’ll just wait to see how the 7900xt and xtx perform no rush to let Nvidia rip us off

It's sad as fuck that getting the 3080 for its MSRP more than 2 years after the launch is considered lucky

I've been holding out for a new card for a while now. My launch day 1080ti was starting to underperform my monitor resolution and refresh rate (1440p/165hz). I made the the decision to buy am RTX 4080 from microcenter for MSRP. My alternative choice was a RTX 3090ti, but for $100 more the 4080 was better performing and better featured. I'm finally building another system all around. The 4790k / z97 platform is starting to show it's age since I built it in 2014. I've got a 13700k / z690 now, and the 4080. I'm happy with my purchases even though it was definitely more expensive than the last time around.

People in comment section saying the prices are insane yet they brag about owning 3090TIs and such like....are you a clown or something?

Would be an amazing card at $800 which would be $100 over the MSRP of the 3080 (for increased production cost) but at $1,199 I can’t stomach a $400 increase. The card is really good but as long as the prices are the way they are I’ll stay with the 3080 until things get back to a norm or I’ll just go second hand when next Gen hits or find a good open box refurb deal just can’t spend that much it’s insane, and I’m not just putting this on Nvidia because AMD is and will take advantage just not as much.

i see it this way: in germany, the msrp for the card is 1470€. the KFA2 costum card, goes for 1999€. in 2017, i paid 512€ for my gtx 1080. its just insane. think about what that means for 4070 and 4060 pricing. there could very well be a 800€ 4060ti

Assuming the AMD cards come in about where everyone is expecting...this generation will be 4090 when you want best of the best and don't care about cost, or one of the 2 new AMD if you want a step below that but at much less cost. The 4080 at this price point just doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

@@brandon10301991 The only person I know who bought a 3080 bought it at 800€ (so slightly above MSRP) just after launch. Another friend & I went with the 6900XT.

I don’t think the price is there for it to be worth it. I’ll be looking into the new AMD cards to see if the performance is there for the $1K price point.

Are the NVIDIA card to expensive hell yeah no one can say otherwise but I hate AMD they have always sucked balls in the GPU department in my opinion. They also suck at updating drivers pretty bad they might be ok I guess in the midrange but yeah that just my opinion.

How is that insane price jump subjective in any way? I mean, even with the high inflation and the increase in VRAM etc., $999 would be pushing it. I fear that next we'll hear - The 4070 has 80% more performance than the 3070, so the $899 price seems reasonable...

Waiting to see AMDs new cards in action before even thinking of upgrading

Given what the 7900XT and XTX is supposed to offer, Nvidia really doesn't interest me much anymore. With the 30 series, I would've went with them because the raw performance is needed for the game I primarily run. The 40 series and 7000 series look to be able to meet my needs without having to go top of the line, and the AMD pricing looks to be the deciding factor.

@@lyianx maybe, but nothing earth shattering. It's the new Microsoft Flight Sim, and I use a 4k60 monitor. With a 3080ti, it would just barely hit 60fps on ultra settings, and that's without ray tracing (which the game doesn't have). The 6950 XT runs about 50-55 fps if I'm not mistaken, and I start to notice jittery motion at 50fps. Not screen tearing as I have free sync on, but things just take a noticeable dive in smoothness between frames. I'm not interested in things like FSR, DLSS, and frame generation. I can't make use of anything over 60 fps anyway, and I prefer keeping resolution native if possible for the best image quality.

We're going to have to wait until they release a $700 card to get a real idea of how the 40 series compares to the 30. I'm guessing that will be the 4060 or 4070 and it will be in the same ballpark as the 3080, so basically no actual gen on gen increase. They really haven't left themselves much room to beat the more reasonably priced 30 series cards.

@@ClellBiggs Nvidia already holds their inventory and trickle their stock out to vendors. Both Best Buy and MicroCenter reported this. They're barely seeing 30 series cards come in and its not due to stock issues. Its because the 40 series launched and they want you to buy those up. They are tracking their vendors and sending what they need to where so its the ONLY thing on the shelf. They are creating a false shortage knowing it'll get bought out by the desperate.

I don't know where on the fence I should be sitting. I bought an EVGA 2080 ti FTW3 for 1800 cad because it was "on sale" for 300 off (regular 2100). I slapped a hybrid kit on it and for the most part it does the job. Not getting the frames I want at 1440p to match my 165hz monitor. I called my local big chain pc shop and a Gigabyte card was 1750 cad. I don't want to be caught in this Nvidia price gouging bubble again. Yes the 4080 beats the 2080 ti by twice the performance, but to spend over 4k cad in 4 years for video cards is nuts. I think i may wait and see what the 7900 benchmarks have to say before I pull the trigger. I'm really hoping the red team can put the green team in check this generation.

Hoping to see aftermarket coolers takeoff bc these are definitely not one size fits all!

From all these Graphs i'm surprised that the 6950 is fighting so well with the 3090ti, or even beating it.

Why does that surprise you? The 6950 has always been on par with the 3090, trading blows depending on the game. Nvidia fanboys would have you believe its not as good though and that AMD "wasnt completing" when they really were. The only thing thats holding them back now is RT performance, and id still bet that the majority of people dont play with RT on the vast majority of the time.

Some of those graphs had the 3090 ti beating the 6950 by over 20 FPS.... ONE graph had the 6950 beating the 3090 TI by 9 FPS with Tomb Raider... That's not competing in my book.

I was holding out to get a 40 series but came across a used 3080 for about 500USD. Picked it up. I’m happy with the performance at 4K too. If I manage to sell my 2060 at about 200USD, overall it’d be a great deal.

I would still show 1080p results, because most people still use that resolution. Steam Hardware Survey from October shows still 65% use this resolution. (Yes Steam Hardware Survey is just an indication but still a good point of reference) After that comes 2k resolution with 13.42%. 4K gaming ist not even close to beeing a focus with not even 3% in the survey. Thats because with currenct ecomonics and depending on the reigon 4k and even 2k gaming is not really affordable from buying point of view. So even with everything bottlenecked at 1080p it is still an important benchmark in my opinion.

Wow! Looking at just straight up gaming maxed out without raytracying and seeing what the 6950XT was doing compared to the 3090/3090ti. Makes me wonder just how the 7900XT will perform with its 20gigs / infinity cache / and most importantly 320-bit bus. Not to mention the 7900XTX. Keeping in mind they said the XTX is the 4080 competitor.

So pleased with my £700 6950XT. Love to see it doing so well in the charts, outside of RT it’s an amazing card. Even with RT, it’s often circa 2080Ti levels of performance which I’m more than fine with.

I picked up a 6800XT for 515$ a couple weeks ago and it's everything I could ever need and am so happy I got an amazing card for under a third of that disgusting 4090

To be honest, you won't even notice. It's like going from an Intel to AMD CPU.

I'm not worried about the adapter on that 3080 since as you showed its power draw is rather significantly lower, and that is an impressive showing considering the CUDA core difference between the 80 and 90, but I'm still mad at Nvidia for all the crap they've been pulling recently and their ridiculous treatment of AIBs. So, despite the fact that I've been on team green since the days of the 8800, I'm waiting for AMD's showing this time around. Based on the 6950's performance, there's easily enough room there for the 7900XTX to come out swinging and eat some of Nvidia's lunch. They just have to stick the landing.

The power draw in the adapter isn't the issue. The bend on them was causing breaks in the metal internals of the connector itself. Because the two conductors were so close together, the current was arcing between them. Since air is an insulator, when electricity passes through it, there is tremendous friction, light and heat. That's how arc welders and lightning bolts work. It doesn't matter how much current in this case because even 100W would melt plastic when arcing.

Seeing how the 6950xt is around $800 rn and can hold up that well Is incredible and having the 7900xtx coming soon at around 1k, I feel AMD is gonna end up winning this time around even if it doesn't give the same FPS and speeds as the 4090

Hey Jay. I know you are going blind with benchmarks but when you review AMD's offering can you throw the original 3090 FE in there as I suspect there are far more folks who have that vs the 3090 TI. It will give folks a better understanding on if upgrading from a 3090 FE is worth it for an upgrade to the 7900 XTX.

Scan, one of the largest online retailers for technical kit today launched a campaign where you get a TUF card worth £1500 for £1200 in store only and apparently, from a friend's words there were queue railings placed outside the store, which weren't used and in fact only around 30 people had attended to get one by 2PM. Loads left in stock, the prices of these cards are Ludacris.

7900xtx is quite close in raster to a 4090 and it's rt performance seems fine for most games atm if you even use it. Anyone buying a 4080 at this price is deluded.

For me the connector is a non-issue. The price however, that's a different animal. I'm not trying to wealth-shame anyone, but I outright just can't afford any of the newer cards. Since I'm only planning to upgrade to an R5 5600 I don't even need that much power. I think I'm settling into a 2060 if they become inexpensive enough new. To be completely honest, with the games I play I don't even need to upgrade, and I'm only doing it so I have a newer CPU than my R7 2700. PC prices are going back to being ridiculously expensive, like they were in the mid-80's when everything was made out of unobtaineum.

So this is a weird, think you said that the 3090 is around 350w draw. My 3090 draws about 415-420w under load in Furmark. I haven't overclocked the card at all just how I got it out of box settings. It's the EVGA FTW3 Ultra Hydrocopper.

If the recent news is anything to go off of, the 4080 will probably still have issues with the power plug melting, especially on AIB cards. Not as much mind you due to the lower power draw, but doubt there will be no issues at all. As to purchasing, still going to wait for the 7900 XTX performance charts. AMD is looking very promising from the marketing thus far. Interested to see if they actually live up to those numbers.

Can't wait to see the price to performance for upcoming AMD cards.

I think the weirdest part is here in Norway, the normal 3090 is about $2300. Which is obnoxious, but the weird part is when you realize the 4080 here is "only" roughly $1800, and 4090 around $2100. I wonder why that happens So here, the 3090 is just out of the question as its basically zero value. The 4080 is fine, but if you can afford to spend that much, you might as well get the 4090 for a few hundred extra bucks for almost 40% extra performance

currently in Sweden 4090 is like $2300, and 4080 is 1.4. If you’re looking for a card still I’d pick up the 4080 now

I am still waiting on the reviews of the AMD GPU's when they finally roll out. So no matter what I will save my money for now.

I saw the UK price... I am 100% waiting for AMDs offering. If they're both insanely priced, ill wait for used.

I’d have instantly bought the 4080 FE if it wasn’t for the power connector defect. Really put me off. Like the power efficiency for the 4080 + noise levels. Impressive

good GPU performance, but DOA cus of price and size for me, can't wait to see how the 7900xtx does.

Interesting how well AMD does on the Unreal Engine. Their work with Epic really shows on how well the card performs on Unreal Engine games.

I think there may be a longer term play here as we move towards the metaverse. Microsoft has been buying up gaming studios and making a push to train those studios on Unreal Engine 5, there are even rumors of Halo moving to Unreal Engine 5. Its no secret AMD has been working with Epic to optimize its platform on the Unreal Engine. I think we will see a market consolidation of AAA games and the future metaverse that is run on Unreal Engine and AMD is just positioning itself as a graphics providor in that space. Not all ray tracing is done at the hardware level.

Nvidia: We need to stop scalping! .... and do the scalping ourselves!

I just built a 13900k based system and went with a 3080Ti which seemed like a good deal at $1500 here in New Zealand. I occasionally will play a game but I use this PC for motion graphics/video post work and I can't justify the cost of a 4090 which is around $3800 NZD here in NZ. Even the 3090Ti at $2500 didn't seem to offer enough of a jump in performance for my use case to justify the extra cost. I think it would be great if AMD can make itself an option for GPU acceleration in professional creative apps so we can have some more options.

Logical reason why it uses the same cooler. To make it look like it justify the high price tag. They could have gone with the 4070 cooler.

I’m waiting for the AMD RDNA 3 benchmarks. I think AMD can do similar or better performance for a much lower price point.

I am quite proud to be a new AMD GPU owner at this moment

replaced my 2080ti with a 4080. 30 series wasnt a big upgrade but after about 4 years im ready to swallow the $1500 pill again for the 90% upgrade. 2080ti is starting to feel dated and having trouble with some games at 1440p 200hz.

2 years later and the ifixit ads are still so good lmao really happy i got a 3000 series card for retail, these damn pc prices are out of hand

With the prices, and preferring to have food on the table instead of a box, I'm looking forward to the 4060. Coming from a 2070, it will be a pleasant upgrade.

Looking at the benchmark, this card doesn't look worth it unless you're running 4K. Seems overpowered for 1440p (except for a few titles). Seems like we're at a point where if you just want to max 1440p, you can get away with getting mid-range/lower end cards of the newest generation. That would be equivalent to like a 3080 which I'm currently running and does great with 1440p.
