I saw The Roots do this on the John Lennon anniversry special on T.V. a few years ago. Man. I was blown away on how talented these guys are. This comin from a die hard Beatles fan. The Roots are awesome.

Just popped up on my feed, and I am grateful. I've been a fan of John Lennon's solo stuff for 40 years and The Roots did this song justice. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 3 mos ago and she is slipping away fast. They call it the "long goodbye" and it's pretty effing painful.

John Lennon was/ Is like Dad to me. He told me about the world. I've never been emotional when someone else does a John song. Until THIS! Good Lord. I wept like a baby. Thank you roots!

This song has always been one of my favorite songs by John, and easily the most powerful and real. Arguably the most visceral song ever written. The Roots did this song proper justice, and the vocalist here is simply unbelievable. And this song can’t be the easiest to cover vocally, first because John’s voice and scream were inimitable, but because the feel of this song is so personal. Love it.
