The Romantics, so named because they formed on Valentine's Day 1977 in Detroit, have had only two US Top 40 hits - and this, now their best-known song, wasn't one of them. It attracted little attention and was only a minor hit when first released in 1980 on their debut album, but found new life later in the decade when it became a popular choice for an advertising jingle, particularly for Budweiser beer. Since then the song has also become a fixture at sporting events, bars and nightclubs, and parties and celebrations of all kinds, and has taken its place as one of the most popular rock anthems of all time. The Romantics' two Top 40 hits were "Talking In Your Sleep" (#3) and "One In A Million" (#37). Both came in 1983, from their fourth album In Heat. Source: Songfacts

Some of these guys are friends of friends, band mates and acquaintances... Mainly Jimmy Marino's the drummer. After the romantics disbanded Jimmy set out to put his own band together, that's when one of my old band mates and best friend became Jimmy's drummer. Jimmy was a front man that just did lead vocals, played harmonica, played percussion and tambourine and maracas. He was quite the character to see live and my friend was a hell of a drummer who only got better. The band was called the motor City rockers. They all wore black leather and their hair was black and long. My understanding was they couldn't get a record deal so they also disbanded after playing many shows and opening for several major bands across the United States...

This is a great song from my youth. I was not a huge fan of most 1980s dance music, so this was my go-to if I wanted to move or to put on for parties. The track right after this one ("She's Got Everything") carries the vibe forward with another great tune that just makes you want to get up and move. A few years later, this band had another big hit with "Talking in Your Sleep."
