I was a Radio Shack manager back in the early 80s when this song was a hit. My store shared a wall with a jewelry store. I had some stereos mounted against the wall and decided one night after closing to put this record on and crank up a stereo that had 80 watts per channel. Little did I know the large speakers connected to the stereo vibrated so much it set off the alarm in the jewelry store! Fortunately I was friends with the jewelry store owner and we laughed about it later. Good times.

Love the stones. Saw the “steel wheels” tour and they opened with this song. Seen a lot of great bands in my life, but the Rolling Stones were just beyond anything I have ever seen. I was 10 feet from Keith Richards and could see his strings vibrating. I’ll never forget that concert for as long as I live. By the way, this song is all about getting it on. Everything about it. A lot of good “naughty” put into one great song.🎵🎵

That ‘78 tour was the one to see! Short, sweet, and no frills. No horns, no backup singers, no props… just the Stones playing a rock & roll show. They had to perform, and they did! Check out anything from ‘’Some Girls’ Live In Texas ‘78’. My uncle worked for the Dallas radio station sponsoring the show, and said they got the band through the crowd outside in to the auditorium in the back of a Lone Star Beer truck. I was 13 years old and instead of the show I got a promo copy of ‘Some Girls’. I saw them in ‘81 in the pouring rain and they were tight in ‘89 at the Cotton Bowl and in 2006 in Austin. But I always wanted to see them in ‘78.

Here is a wikipedia excerpt: In the beginning with the release of the Windows 95 operating system in 1995, the Microsoft company used the song for a marketing campaign. The ad highlighted the new Start menu, so the song fits the ad's theme. Microsoft's Brad Silverberg, who was responsible for Windows 95, negotiated the use of the song. He reports that negotiations with the heads of the Rolling Stones were difficult until the end. Mick Jagger was initially reluctant to license the song for artistic reasons. Facing the $3 million deal, Keith Richards persuaded him to back down, and Start Me Up became the first Rolling Stones song to be used in a commercial. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)

Iconic - I was privileged to be in the audience at the Isle of Wight festival in 2007 and saw them perform 'Start Me Up'. I was stood left of the runway, and it was awesome! There are videos of the 2007 Isle of Wight Festival on KZread. Before seeing them 'live' at the Isle of Wight festival, I always considered myself to be more of a Beatles fan, watching them perform live and the energy they created changed my mind - they were just amazing. As an extra bit of info, Amy Winehouse was there too, her set earlier in the afternoon was OK, but a little flat and lacklustre. She joined the Rolling Stones at the end of their set, and she came alive. Amy singing and performing with Mick Jagger is something I'll always remember.

This was the song the radio station in Richmond, Virginia used to notify people that Rolling Stones tickets had just opened up for sale for their 2-3 shows at the Hampton Coliseum in 1981/82. I believe tickets were around $12-$15 bucks a piece :) I raced up to the record store and bought tickets for their very last show of the tour. The show was festival seating (no seating on the floor....just open standing). The Hampton Coliseum is a 12,000 seat arena so compared to some of the other venues the Stones played at during that tour (80,000 seat football stadiums), this was a nice small venue with great views. We got about 20 feet from the stage and Mick floated over the crowd in a cherry picker. It was a great show.....opened up with "Under My Thumb". The previous days show was actually a birthday show for Keith Richards.....it was broadcast live on the local PBS television station. In fact, I think there is video of that show here on youtube. What is really interesting is that I bought tickets for their very last show of that tour thinking they might break up and that we would never see another show from the Rolling Stones ever again....LOL. Jump to 2022, 40 years later, and the Stones are still touring!

I street raced. I had a 69 Mach 1 SCJ black . It was loaded and had an 8track . I'd set this up before a light to light run ." Highway Star " was great for a highway run . Music and working the stick go very well together. Same with a girl ,but I never raced with a girl in the car , and treated them far better than my car . 😎

I love this era Stones (Some girls, Tattoo you, Emotional rescue, Undercover) very under rated albums, late 70s, early 80s was my period as i grew up to enjoy music more, i wouldve been 14 when Undercover came out in 83

One of their best songs, maybe only second to "Brown Sugar" their best song on their best album "Sticky Fingers."

Not sure but I believe this was the Stones last big hit song. There may be others later, but this is the last one that really stands out. Early 80's, Rock and Roll.

Lex - not sure if this is what you are thinking of but the beginning of this song was used in the HUGE ad campaign for Microsoft Windows 95 launch. It was everywhere, all the time!

This song was the last track on the Some Girls album and was cut last minute. Actually forgotten fir a few years. Stones needed a filler song for the Tattoo You album. Keith remember (yes brain cells working) and the song was added--Thank God!!

Funny cuz my dad grew up on the Stones and I've heard them a lot as a little kid but even the dead man come caught me off guard. When your a little kid the lyrics don't mean anything. You guys are awesome.
