In this series, you will learn some of the most important strategic concepts, which are very important in the endgame stage. The first part of the series gives a broad overview of the following strategic concepts: The active king, space advantage in the endgame, the principle of two weaknesses and “Do not Hurry”. Afterwards, the Dutch Grandmaster Sipke Ernst will discuss several types of material imbalances in the endgame. A common theme that deserves special attention is the sacrifice of a piece for several pawns.
In the opening and the middlegame stage the King is often hiding, but in the endgame his majesty can turn into a dangerous attacker. In this video, GM Sipke Ernst will cover the importance of the active king in the king and pawn endgame.
