Hummel (Ed Harris) who take control of Alcatraz Island, holding tourists hostage and threatening to launch deadly rockets containing deadly VX nerve gas upon San Francisco unless their demands are met.
Enter Dr. Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage), a young and brilliant FBI chemical weapons specialist, and John Mason (Sean Connery), an enigmatic and legendary British spy, who is the only man to have successfully escaped from Alcatraz. The unlikely duo teams up to infiltrate the heavily fortified island, facing perilous challenges and intense combat along the way.
The remastered 4K UHD HDR version elevates "The Rock" to new heights, providing viewers with an unparalleled viewing experience. Not really. Hummel was a fucking idiot, just like Mason called him to his face later on. He never had any intention to fire those missiles and kill thousands of people. He bluffed big time and got all his men killed including the SEAL team sent in to stop him. He would have been better off using his men to take out all the scumbag politicians that were responsible for the deaths of his Marines instead of holding innocent people hostage and threatening an entire city.

The one thing I can't forget about this movie is the FBI director looking shocked at the Generals having a slush fund for illegal arms sales to forgetting about the whole thing
0:29 it's amazing to me how womack, the one responsible for imprisoning mason for years, is the most innocent one out of everyone in that room. considering that he's the fbi director, for him to know what's going on behind closed doors of the politicians and the military, his expression there sells it all.
@Timberwolf1992
7 ай бұрын
Maybe coz Womack, who although started his career at J. Edgar Hoover's FBI, couldn't emulate his deceased boss in regards to government blackmail data, but his character traits in this movie were very much inspired by Hoover as visible when he fanatically prioritised securing the microfilm from Mason more than neutralizing Hummel's threats and even tore off Mason's government pardon orders from the Attorney General, something illegal enough to land even the President in jail.
@voldier0

I also liked that Hummel did not immediately answer but instead wanted to know who was asking. A white house flunky like the other guy? A staff officer in the military? Hummel probably wouldn't have answered either of them. But the Director of the FBI? That was someone whom he could reveal that information to and really make the military squirm over it. Both removed from the military he was so pissed at, respected and skilled enough to be the FBI director, and authority to be a pain in the military's ass. @@Timberwolf1992

Fun fact: 100 millions divided by 70 thousands equals to around 1428. This means that by refusing to pay Hummel the US government in this movie values the life of an average San Francisco resident as being worth less than $1428!
@ReijiTabibito
6 ай бұрын
Worth even less than that. The 60-70k mark is for a *single* rocket loaded with VX. Hummel took *fifteen* of those rockets when he set this plan into motion. Assuming that the rockets launched had maximum dispersion (meaning they landed in areas where the was no overlap in the affected zone), and average body count (they say 60-70k, so assume 65k per rocket), that means Hummel is capable of killing 975,000 individuals. Do the math with these numbers - 100 million over 975 thousand comes out to *just over* $100 per person.

So many things about this scene irk me as a former 74D. 1. Napalm is capable of burning in excess of 5,000 F, Thermite burns around 4,500 F. 2. It won't kill every living organism, plant life would be fine and so would pretty much anything not being directly exposed to it. 3. Why the hell would they use an FBI specialist when every branch of the military has their own CBRN?! Bonus irks from the movie as a whole. The NAAK (Nerve Agent Antidote Kit) is injected into the thigh like an Epipen, not the heart. It would 100% kill you to shoot that into your heart. VX can/will kill if it touches your skin, yet they touch it in the movie at several points with no issues. They have VX all over the island and there's not a single MOPP suit or Pro Mask anywhere to be seen.
