Definitely picking up Roaring Twenties in the next sale. Gone With The Wind is epic. I heard a 4k release is coming this year.

Probably my favorite gangster movie of all time. I can't believe we got it on 4K. We need the other 3 classic gangster films with Cagney: Public Enemy ... Angels with Dirty Faces .. and .. White Heat.

This was my first time seeing The Roaring Twenties and I really enjoyed it. Perhaps we’ll see more of those films on physical media with nice restorations.

Always loved this movie and just upgraded my old DVD to 4k in the recent flash sale. Warner Archive just announced a Bluray of They Drive By Night another Walsh favorite of mine. I highly recommend you pick that one up.

I just finished watching this film. I checked it out from the library a couple days ago. I connected a lot with the character of Eddie. I may just make this one of my last pickups during the sale.

Just finished watching this. I have to say I LOVED this film. Amazing story and Cagney was brilliant, my favorite actor of the classic Hollywood era. I love the passage of time in narrative, and it was done beautifully in this film. Ah! It was such a great watch!

My favorite 1939 film would probably be Only Angels Have Wings with Cary Grant and Jean Arthur. I’m looking forward to getting The Roaring Twenties on Blu Ray when payday arrives later this week.

One of my favorite classic gangster films. I’ll have to get this. Just a great movie. Wish the original Scarface could get a great release like this.

So many good movies from 39. A couple that maybe aren't talked about as much that I'm a big fan of are The Hunchback of Notre Dame, starring Charles Laughton and featuring the screen debut of Maureen O'Hara, and Jesse James, starring Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda. Highly recommended if you haven't seen them. I'm a big Raoul Walsh fan so I'll pick up The Roaring Twenties at some point. If you want to check out another one of his movies, Objective, Burma is a great war movie. It's from 1945 and Errol Flynn is the star. It has great cinematography. Definitely check it out if you have a chance.

Update: I just double checked and Maureen O'Hara's debut was not in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Oh well. Glad you got this review wrapped in between church services!

Criterion is definitely slipping with the special features. Arrow has been crushing them easily in the last two years.

I would like to see Criterion include more special features on these releases as well. They still do on some releases but it’s not what it used to be with cutbacks in recent years.

Ninotchka... I wasn't a fan of. Not a big fan of Garbo. Marlene Dietrich blows her out of the water.
