Who are we? 💁🏼‍♀️
We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. We love nature and are currently traveling in Norway!!
You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! 😁 ⏮
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden jobs, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a KZread channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do KZread full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. If you're new around here you can check out our previous videos; we've been uploading weekly videos for the last 9 months and are currently releasing DAILY VIDEOS.
Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!
Thank you so much for watching! If you enjoyed this video please consider LIKING this video and SUBSCRIBING to our channel! It would help us grow our channel 🌻

Welcome to Sandnessjøen which i live nearby ! Drive carefully, the coastroad is very narrow, next ferries for you is Levang/Nesna, Kilboghamn/Jektvik and Ågskardet/Forøy, then there is no ferries all the way to up to Saltstraumen and Bodø. Saltstraumen is the strongest maelstrom in the world, Bodø is a nice city in this part of the year! Seeing you, a young couple on such a drive/trip through some of the nicest parts of Europe and Norway is probably the most romantic things i can imagine, i wish you perfect luck forever !

May 4 2023: Enjoying your videos so very much. So, interesting how overseas, I live in Maryland, there are so many spots that you have shared through your travels that use the honor system in donating and using what is there. The hole in that mountain is huge. I agree how does something stand the test of time. Glad it does for so many to enjoy. I am now exploring areas to do day walks. I bought a walking stick to assist. Although 69 years of age and I am very active with teen grandchildren and their living with us. Isabele you are always prepared in your videos as you do the walks, hikes to have food! Cheers on many more journey’s. Your format is the best and I cannot get enough.

That spectacular cave-tunnel was formed by the sea, but is now a 100m or so above the sea level - that's because at the end of the ice age when the snow cap melted and the weight of all those km thickness of ice was gone, so the surface of the earth started to boing back up above sea level (geological term, boing!) and is still boinging to this day! By the way Izzy, I brought a box of lovely Barry Tea back from Ireland too. Half way through it already! 🫖😋

Wow! My parents are from this region and you hit upon all the major points here. Torghatten (and the legends of Helgeland, if I may add) the incredible beaches, shallow waters. In places you can swim for ages in normal pool depth water and then finally the Aspen. In my mother's childhood she grew so accustomed to this tree that she had to bring some to her new home to hear that familiar sound.

Don't come to Norway. Go to Sweden, Denmark or Finland. There is endless forest and no wies or mountains at all. Norway is not for bored and lazy people. If you care to sit in a camper van and look at fake Sámi People and a immaginary Santa. Then Finland must be the obvious choice. Not Norway were everything is authentich. We are not living in a immaginary country. Think about that, before you come here.

A total of 2,000 stave churches have probably been built in Norway, if not more. Around 1350, there were probably just under 1,000 stave churches in the country. Today there are only 28 stave churches left. Most are located in the inner part of Eastern Norway and in the inner fjord areas of Western Norway.

Again, thanks a lot taking us with you. I am sure you read about the myth of the hole in the Torghatten. You will get the real caribean feeling at Ramberg and Haukeland Beach. Enjoy your roadtrip of lifetime which it is definetely. Follow the tourist signs on the lofoten and you will not be disappointed. On Senja you will find the golden toilett for sure. On the Vesteralen you have to goo and visit Myre and on the way to Stö you will pass the village "Klo" which is the abbreviation for saying toilett in german language. Be always prepared to get stuck on the road by lazy sheeps lay down on the heated asphalt. If you havent seen an elk yet just look for them very early morning right after sunrise when the come out of the woods crossing the grasland and going to nearby flat shores to eat seawheat cos these provide a lot of salt to them. This can happen also in late evenings. Be aware in early morning driving, those elks are massive and can appear suddenly in front of you. Also take care when they are focused running back into the woods, they even dont take care of cars.

I'm pretty sure thats not quaking aspen. I hate being that "yeah but" commenter, buuut, I grew up at elevation in colorado and those leaves you showed aren't quaking aspen. The serrations are practically lobes. Quaking aspen have very fine serration like a japanese handsaw. What you showed is maybe big tooth aspen? I dunno, just a guess, I don't know a lot about european trees. We have more common poplars at lower elevation (like 6k feet) and they make a ton of noise too. I can hear my neighbors poplar from 2 houses down. Anyway, I'm not an expert, but I majored in dendrology for a couple of years before I figured out it wasn't for me.

As far as I’m aware we only have a single species of aspen in Europe sometimes called european aspen, aspen trembling aspen or quaking aspen. This gets confusing when the americas have more nuanced names, that’s why it’s usually better to rely on the Latin, this is Populus tremula (larger lobes) I think the saw tooth one you are talking about is Populus tremuloides

So fun fact Tom and everyone else. Recently they've actually found a new largest living organism (area based aspen still rules in mass) in Australia! Posidonia australis a type of seagrass that covers around 200 square kilometres. And before that technically a fungi held the title, though now Posidonia australis has taken both the title of largest living plant and organism.

second largest mabi? new data shows the largest living organism may actually be a parasitic honey fungus called armillaria solidipes found in a national forest in Oregon spanning 2,200 acre's estimated to be 2400 years old!

I think the aspen still takes the title if you do it by weight. Apparently there is a sea grass forest in Australia I hadn’t heard about as well. Love these organisms that stretch the idea of individual like this, very cool

@@LostInTransit if you do it by weight I think you're probably right!. I'm going to have a look at the sea grass I've not heard about it so will definitely check that out. you should listen to Joe Rogan's podcast with Paul Stamets. he's a mycologist. very interesting conversation especially his theory on honey bee decline and it's link to fungus. might help get you through your next long drive!
