The Road to Tekapo & Aoraki/Mt.Cook | New Zealand

This week we’re embarking on the journey from Queenstown to Tekapo, and will be treated to a tapestry of breathtaking landscapes and STUNNING stops. Beginning with the rugged beauty of Roaring Meg, the road meanders through Cromwell's orchards, the dramatic drive through Lindis Pass, and more, we're so excited to head on this road trip once again. After a a pause at the enchanting Omarama clay cliffs, we end up in Twizel which unveils a tranquil charm. The journey unfolds with vistas of Lake Benmore and Lake Pukaki, and we continue along the wilderness of the Hooker Valley Track before unwinding in the soothing embrace of Omarama Hot Tubs, marking a perfect conclusion to this INCREDIBLE trip.

➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, and we want to help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas, or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Nothing is off limits when adventure is the ultimate goal. After three years of living full time van life throught Canada, Mexico and the USA, we're now car camping our way through New Zealand in a Land Rover Discovery 1.
Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On this channel, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. We hope you join us on our journey to see the world, save money, live minimally, and most importantly, have fun.
So if you're looking for a channel about van life, alternative living, and budget travel, you're in the right place.

Absolutely enjoyed this. Another part of NZ I've never seen and sadly never will. Thoroughly enjoy watching all your videos. I get to see parts of the South Island I've never seen. Thanks for your videos all of which are appreciated from this homesick Kiwi. Take care!

I love that area of the South Island. The drive through the Lindis Pass is beautiful. It reminds me a lot of the area around Laramie Wyoming. If you go again there is a 4-wheel drive road up the side of the Tasman Glacier that let you see the Glacier up close. From the end of the road, you can hike to Ball Flat Hut which is on my list of places to go on my next trip to New Zealand.

We'll have to add that to our list! We really love this area too. Driving through Lindis Pass takes my breath away every time.

Yep you nailed it, omarama, oh-mareh-ma… even us kiwis are still learning correct Māori pronunciation 👌 I saw Glen & Mados vid of Cromwell… just thinking if you guys wanted to do one, I’d go to the goldfields where you can pan for gold & see the old dredges. (Most of central Otago was established in 1840s from gold miners walking through from Dunedin). Then there’s a sluicings walk in Bannockburn - 1hr long… the 5 barrels vineyard walk/ Bannockburn vineyard walk… then there’s the dunstan bike trail down to the coffee/ burger boats - pretty epic ✌️🙌

Maori vowels are the same as the usual Vowels, but the way they are pronounced is different. The A,is a longer soundung A,sounds like Aah. The E is like saying "Wet"but without the w and t. The I is said like "Ee",like "Feeble" without the extra letters. The O is like saying "Paw" without the American and Canadian accent on the letter R,if you say it like a Kiwi or Aussie, you'll see what i mean. The U is like saying "Moo" using the U in the same way, short and concise. Awe marra mah, roll the Rs,pretty much like the Latinos do.

Believe the hut you can see from Hooker Valley is the Mueller Hut (via Mueller Hut route), a very popular advanced alpine tramp. The hut gets booked out way in advance but you can still do the walk up until April. All the info is on the DOC website :)

We call that Roaring Meg with that volume of water a river or awa in Māori and a stream is usually a lot smaller less water. Good on you for trying in Māori OMARAMA. but try O MA RA MA. A= Auntie O =OR (awful)
