I became a fan of Kari Matchett through her portrayals of so many different characters in the Nero Wolfe series. When I saw her name on this film, I had to see it. Wow, another completely different character. I really enjoyed her performance. She is such a talented actress. Good film.

I never heard of her. But then again, i haven’t watched TV in over 20 years. She did great. Good acting all around.

Good movie. Worth a view. Strange how a lot of good movies can be made on a small budget. I have noticed that (historically) a lot of the movies where the Canadian movie industry is involved are well worth a watch.

Murdoch Mysteries are a much better choice.

fantastic story acted by fantastic cast, which proves that a movie needs not necessarily be casted by celebrities to be enjoyed. a cast of no name actors can really create a terrific production such as this. kudos to all involved in the production.

What do you mean no name actors? You obviously do not watch great movies. Kati Matchett is very well know Canadian actress who was nominated for seven Awards and won 2. You need to change your movie genre and stop watching superhero box office movie types. You will be glad you did.

well the guy who played the old Sheriff/father is hardly "no name", I've seen him many times in lots of things. Kenneth Welsh, Canadian, died May 5, 2022. Was in "Crocodile Dundee II"; "Death Wish V"; "Time Cop"; " Legends of the Fall"; "The Aviator"; "Twin Peaks" (TV); "Law and Order" (TV); and many, many, many more.

Movie Central never disappoints!!!

Unlike most TV films, this one does not suck! I find the flow of the story laminar and natural.

Very good movie. We never know the secrets people keep and the reasons they keep them. Those we meet along the path of our lives. Sometimes secrets need to be told to mend the wounds of the past. Sometimes secrets are best left untold. Well written and acted film.

Best not to know the "unknown" from your past, your families past. Forget about it, ignore it, move on, enjoy life. It all really doesn't matter. I have know 2 women in my life, who did not know who their father's were. Most probably they were scumbags. So they knowing who they were probably would not have done them any good. Things about your past, family, ancestry, etc. may not matter, may be all incorrect. As the old saying goes "what difference does it make if the milkman did it?".

I have to disagree, though I understand your point of view. But you/we are the products of our past, of our forbears, and we really do need to know that past, whatever .....

I honestly loved the ending and how sweet it was. This wasn't like the typical lifetime movie which I enjoy watching too. This movie ended on the sweetest note and yep I cried. Good movie. Thank you for sharing it with me.

This is an honest, real-life drama that's worth your time. We must earn to forgive, as we all make mistakes as we go through life. Good kovie.

Kari Matchett, what a find! I remember her in Nero Wolfe's Mystery series, what a great ensemble cast. Such a shame the producers did not appreciate that show as much as the audience and Kari was great!

That's where I first saw her. She and Timothy Hutton were great in that series. Maury Chakin too of course. She always does a good job, & I particularly enjoyed the quirky roles in Nero Wolfe.

A very sad, but interesting family "demons in the closet" story, and a murder mystery to solve! The narration is poetic and provocative. Lots of surprises, twists and turns! There's even an old romance that is revisited. Very well-acted and produced. Recommended!

A great movie w/a great cast... can never disappoint. Every family has buried secrets. Some never revealed, some are, some cause a lot of pain and some remain an unknown mystery without answers and closure.

honestly. with all due respect to anybody in that situation, sometimes you are better off not knowing and sometimes, i don't think we'll ever get the answers we want.

I wish the audio was louder. I can barely hear this one. This story hits home. My mother left my dad before I was born. Then came back and I was conceived. Then she left again when I was four.I know what it is like to be a motherless child.

So sorry to hear what you went thru w/parents. Maybe film is low due to your volume unable to push up loud enuf on device u are using? As when I put volume up some more I could hear ok. At least you stuck with the movie even though u had lower volume experience....as it was worth it...

I had the same nightmare when I was a child. I was sitting in a wood canoe in an algae filled lake w a bunch of cabbages in it. I couldn't eat it for years.

I love Kari Machett.She was in the "the Nero Wolfe" mysteries. I'd really like to see more of her work.

Searching for something to watch, and all I needed to see was Kari Matchett's name. It is always a pleasure to watch a highly skilled actress at work. Looking forward to the film.

Love lead actress. Great actress. Good acting all around.

A great family film with mystery. Some secrets are never revealed or are revealed late. The ending of this film was very emotional. These elders were left alone at home.

Interesting movie,one to enjoy viewing.Must have been a terrible town keeping all those secrets.Some left a long time ago and others stayed but were miserable.Lucky the daughter came back and was able to unravel the mystery.Thanks for screening.❤

I believe that's why they call movies like this mystery thrillers, I thought the movie was very well done and coming from a guy's perspective ,trying to put my shoes into the way of Kate thinking, what she's endured over her years I feel she had all the right to be the kind of person she would be in this movie. Kate Mason play the great part... last thing I have to say young man or young woman that has had to endure something like this in their life can be very painful That's why sometimes the, truth in bringing up the past can either bring you Together.. or it can Haunt.. you!..

I forget the former things & do not dwell on the past anymore bcz my God is doing a new thing & I do not want to miss it!

Agreed. One crime was under investigation, the other was never uncovered or investigated. Legally, he should have been arrested pending an investigation, bail granted, under suspension. After all, he admitted that Gower used the house gun, and both belonged to him. So, he could have shot them both, and disposed of the bodies. Only saving grace is that he said he loved her ... but who knows what happens in a fit of rage. Great and real, well acted.

Wow. If you can hang with a rather slow-moving mystery, it does come together nicely. Even this grammy liked it. Well-acted and nice cast.

Quite the convoluted movie. But interesting enough to keep me watching because of the cast, very well acted. Was a bit hard to follow sometimes, but ended well, actually as good as it could. Wow... I thought MY family was screwed up.

It seems small towns live by a different style of law making. They cover up their crimes and distort history daily, just like in this Riverbank movie...

Me too. I think I saw it before, but don't remember a thing, except it was Canadian production or filmed in Canada, had "river" in title, and was good in a sombre -smouldering kinda way! 😊

2 thumbs up! I love non Hollywood movies. You know, the ones where there's all this dialog. But in non Hollywood movies you get atmosphere, you get pauses that you just don't get from Hollywood. Nice screenplay. I only partially guessed the ending. So-so acting. But I really enjoyed it. I highly recommended it, give it a go.

Wow! Really good movie! Much better than what's out there right now. Liked Kari from " Covert Affairs" and in this movie! Usually multitask when I'm watching a movie but couldn't with this one as it was too interesting.
