Same, don't judge me for this, I genuinely don't find him funny, I get the humour, but one-liners don't do it for me, I prefer my Billy Connolly's and Lee Evans's, but, I feel like his work for Mental Health, I'm suddenly a lot more interested, I'm not really suffering but it *IS* very important, he seems a very wise man

3:14 the Maslow illustration is interesting. By not having the base of the pyramid figured out, it created a greater sense of individual purpose and identity, but it also fostered greater cooperation for survival. Now, most societies have guaranteed basic human needs, causing a detachment from the group and promoting individualism and a lack of cohesion within society. Interestingly enough, more people than ever feel lost and hopeless. 🤯

Don't put too much emphasis on being a "real man". Emphasize being the best version of yourself instead and stay true to yourself regardless of what anybody else thinks. There's no such thing as a "real man", only the real you. Being a stereotype won't make you happy, it will just make you even more confused. You, and only you know what's best for yourself and that's that.

I partially agree with this, definitely run your own race and and be the best version of you. However I would argue that we DO NOT always know what’s best for ourselves. We make wrong decisions and poor judgements often. Just because we think or feel something doesn’t make it accurate. Close your mouth and open your ears, other people have valuable information and opinions we might have not considered.

One thing I've learned about depression is,, if u suffer from depression don't listen to depressing music.. If you want a better life than be better, u gotta put into the world that of which you wish to recieve. Want love, respect, dignity,, start with yourself. If you don't love, respect yourself than don't expect anyone else to. If you want a happier life,,become helpful.. to do good feels good.. think for yourself, speak for yourself,, be yourself.. theres only one of you in this world so stay true to yourself. Pay no mind to judgmental opinions of others, most opinions are like assholes, they stink.. if everything consists of matter, if you're here, you matter. Be the hero of your own story, like you're ment to,, a code , creedo, motto,,, multiple if u want. Something simple that allows you to look yourself in the eye tha mirror each morning & able to get to sleepea night.. one of mine "cause no harm but take no shit.. cuz tho we're all the hero of our own stories ...in someone elses,, we're the villain... keep yourself accountable,, learn to say no, set boundaries..take chances, don't be afraid to fail. The only way u fail is not to try.. if it's good pay it forward, if it's not grill it and kill. Get yourself/house in order, start living right & the right ppl will come into your life.. and the wrong ones will leaven.. assessing constantly, progress continually, rate of speed of your progression, N/A for you are not...I am not in competition with, & don't compare myself to anyone, except who I was yesterday.... likewise don't compete for or chase anyone. Women or for any one else's time & or affections.... whatever you do in this life, do it for you. Can't make everyone happy so best start with oneself. Become content and go from there.. Rambles over, over and out, bonne chance, bon nuit,, adieux from a deud.

It is quite sad and indeed telling a lot about us. I come from India, and for me growing up as a millennial, traveling outside India was like a dream, next to impossible. Today, I am married to a beautiful woman, I have been to Dubai (lived there rather), lived in London, lived in Taiwan and basically lived across the entirety of India. But, I have bipolar disorder. Once I (or my family) reached a state of comfortable life, our priorities turned upside down. Today, my wife and I are deeply scared of bringing another life in this world. We have more than we could ever ask for and yet we feel we dont have enough to support our baby. We have become paralyzed by our comfort.

During the Cold War it was very well understood that Communism was the replacement for religion in Communist countries. With no religion it replaced religion, giving fanaticism an outlet. There is a line from Stephen Kotkin, Princeton professor writing a 3 volume work on Stalin. He was asked by an interviewer, what the biggest revelation for historians was once Russia opened the files to them to study. He said it was that these guys were really Communists. It wasn't about power or money...they truly believed in Communism. And they were determined to make it a reality no matter the cost. Humans will seek identity and purpose somewhere, in something. Religion, God, fulfill that. If people lived their actual religions it would actually be a pretty nice world.

This is speaking to me at a lot of levels because ill describe it like this lets look at Fallout New Vegas I had freedom there to help, be someone, and people not telling me what to do and still can do good. In the real world was constantly told no, not allowed to try or whenever did try did not do well so someone would take over and not give me time. Never invited, was left behind then looking back (early 30’s now) just went fck it went to work and went home to play video games and getting off on porn because people just straight up ticked me off not allowing me to do things or wasting time only can watch others have fun at gatherings. Am thankful being free from those addictions and its been a struggle learning new things but have been changing well taking some more risks, been a slow start but off a new journey.

Yup, I second this. In Skyrim you explore a world where many people can use your help and where there are such heights to achieve and mysteries to uncover. Meanwhile my parents taught me not to take risks, I am perfect the way I am. It's their trauma, they felt neglected and worthless all their childhoods so they wanted the opposite of that for me. Many men are raised as precious treasures. But for most, somewhere between 16 and 25 that is suddenly disproven. Your parents raised you on a lie. Everything takes so much work and trial-and-error. People assume you know how everything works and if you don't, that's on you. After a childhood of luxury and safety you suddenly have to learn everything the hard way and aren't given any leeway or guidance. There is an easy way of instant gratification available so you take it instead, because that's just human nature. It's not our fault. And as a man you are presumed guilty of being sexually perverted. A generation of women filled with bitterness for men. The moment they get their hands on one agreeable, kind, one they can mould, they make him into their perfect puppet and ruin him while still fawning over those who offer status and fun.

Recommend guys read the word for yourself and seek him on your own he will eventually reveal himself to you…if your willing. Forget what the world says seek and ask himself yourself.

Not sure that religion argument really works: the idea that coming together is "a good thing about religion", and that other things are therefore proxies for religion. If the coming together is the good bit, as he said (and I'd be inclined to agree), that means that religion is a proxy for pure, for-its-own-sake togetherness, not that other promoters of togetherness are proxies for religion.

Good points from an evident thinker. The issue I have with atheism is that 1. One needs to accept that one doesn't know how the universe and the near infinite complexity of micro and macro biological life came about. Saying it's all a random event is not a serious position, especially as the simplest amoeba cannot be made in the laboratory. 2. God is one hypothesis, and to eliminate it for emotional reasons is not rational. 3. When faced with this question the atheist laughs in one's face - like Dawson does.

Yeah and watching films is a substitute for not being able to watch Alan Rickman fall out of the window at the top of Nakatomi Plaza in real life. Or maybe I just enjoy watching Alan Rickman play a character who falls out of the window at the top of Nakatomi Plaza. And likewise, maybe I just enjoy playing games. People who enjoy media as a form of escapism have ruined media, because now you can't just enjoy anything without people thinking that you're running away from your problems. That's only true for a very small subset of people. There's more to art and media than just being training wheels for life. Its not purely functional, there's something else there. I'm an independent professional musician, but I do a lot more things to make money than just perform I have to wear a lot of hats in fact, so in reality I run a business and I'm the product. But that doesn't mean I don't want to play business simulator games. I'm not thinking "this is a replacement for running a real business and living a real life", I'm enjoying playing with the mechanics and the challenge of being the best at the game. Its like saying people only play Call of Duty because they really want to go to war. No I love playing Call of Duty, but I really really don't want to go to war and even if I did there's absolutely no comparison anyway. Men are running away from life because there's very little incentive to engage with a society that doesn't respect, value, or reward them for doing so and in fact actually punishes them. People should do it for themselves, but its not so easy to see or even want that when the result of building a life worth living doesn't appear until you've put in 10-20 years of effort and created that life for yourself. Most people in my generation won't own their own home until they're 40 or 50, if at all. 30% of my generation are single, and that percentage is growing. We are looking at a future where so many people are childless, lonely, and won't even get the pleasure of owning our own home, and certainly won't have enough money to retire, and to top it all off you have women saying they won't date anyone unless they're 7', a millionaire and have the looks of Brad Pitt, whilst labelling any man attempting to achieve that as toxic. Our society has systematically DESTROYED the very notion of what masculinity even is whilst also removing all forms of opportunity for success, and we wonder why men don't want to do anything anymore? Stop redirecting the blame away from what's really happening.
