Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero.
Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world.
But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?

Though I am a tad bit unsure what to think of RWBY volume 9 using what might be a deepfake of his voice for a Vison of Roman Torchwick (or it might have been recorded before he died, idk). Though using a dead man's voice for a dead character is spooky on some level to say the least, least they put a dedication to him in the episode.

Billy Kametz, you will never be forgotten as a Hero, but also a Legend. Rest in peace.
I'll never forget the day he died. News showed up in my KZread feed that Mr. Kametz was stepping away from voice acting bc of cancer. We all wished him the best of luck in recovering. A week later he was gone. The dude was dealing with stage four cancer even while on the job. It just shocked me bc normally when you get news like this you assume that the cancer is in early treatable stages. But in this case it wasn't. But the time we heard the news he was stepping down it was already too late.
We will miss you Billy

Reason I don't watch season 2 or the up coming seasons was because of Billy Kametz. His voice brought life to the shield hero and honestly it does hit the same when it's not his voice.

I can understand that really I can but Billy's last request was to be supportive of anyone that was replacing him and as fans we should honor his final request.

Honestly, a lot of anime could benefit from the first episode being 40 min long, it would give the introduction more room to breathe. RIP Billy Kametz, you are missed.

I can understand people's problems with season 2 because it definitely was flawed and rushed, but I fail to see what their problem with season 1 is aside from the last 3 episodes essentially squeezing the island arc making that arc rushed

That's how it is. It's very scary how eerily similar Naofumi 's situation was especially considering the shame bs happened to a well renowned English VA the same year this anime first came out

I don't play favourites, but after seeing this anime for the first time in 2020, I have to say, this is my favourite anime. Whoever wrote this story is a boss at engaging his audience's attention.
It's still hard to believe it be one year since billy kametz death, we will miss you 😢

Billy Kametz was able to finish season 1. Three years later the second season was about to start but Billy had announced that he had stage 4 colon cancer. He announced that he would be focusing on recovering and won’t be working so crunchy roll recasted him with Stephen Fu. By the 8 episode of season 2 Billy had perished. He’s done many games and shows honestly he’s the best voice actor I’ve ever known and watch, he was very kind to me

It’s ironic that despite how immoral the slave trader guy is, he seems far more likeable compared to any of the other characters in this episode. (Other than Naofumi and that weapons shopkeeper).
Poor guy to be taken away from his home world only to be framed by the people he trusted.
I’ve never understood how they thought the “useless and weakest hero” overpowered one of the countries strongest adventurers. The other heroes prove time and again in this series that they’re completely brain dead.

The last time I saw Billy was on Convention Coverage as a panelist for The Rising Of The Shield Hero 🛡. In 2022. March-May. Can't exactly remember the month.

Honestly, it was quite a surprise to learn Imari Williams was the voice of Erhart (I mean he sounded a lot like Boulder from Transformers Rescue Bots) when I first saw this in 2020. Binge watches some new (and some old) titles to fight the boredom of the world being in lockdown. P.S. Can't wait for Season Three this autumn.

I'll always miss Billy. To me he was the perfect person to voice Josuke in JoJo Part 4. Probably his best performance I've seen. And obviously Naofumi would be his second best.
