Always found this particular rebellion incredibly interesting, it being the last time the North of England rebelled (if you can call these events so grand a word). If I recall correctly the rebels seized Hartlepool in the hopes of Spanish aid, which had been promised by Phillip II’s ambassador without any authorisation to do so. Sad really.

I think it depends on if you will only count it if only the North rebelled, because obviously the English Civil war happened and their was a lot if rebelling and fighting in the north.

Demonstrated strong Catholic rebellion against Eizabeth, even from the nobility, which would become a recurring issue throughout Elizabeth’s reign and would become a primary factor in the execution Mary, Queen of Scots 17 years later. Not that significant in of itself but demonstrated the divisions in England in this time.

@@matthewbarabas3052 If it was James I you're talking about he stuck to Protestantism because he was raised by the protestant Scottish nobility, who were the reason the catholic Mary, Queen of Scots was exiled (and subsequently fled to England) in the first place. And Elizabeth knew to not choose a Catholic heir since she'd seen first hand the instability that changing the state religion had caused already after her sister Mary. And so the protestant James would become king.
