They clearly haven't understood the basic economic principle of NOT COMPETING WITH YOURSELF, WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT LINES, UNDER DIFFERENT NAMES, THE MARKETS NOT GOING TO SEE IT AS 1 THING, IT'S GOING TO THINK THEY'RE ALL SEPARATE, WITH NO OVERARCHING NARRATIVE, MEANING YOU'VE CUT YOUR SALES IN HALF ALREADY, NOT EVEN BY DOING ANYTHING, MINIMUM! I DON'T EVEN HAVE AN ECONOMICS DEGREE AND KNOW THIS, ABSOLUTE FAILURES!

As far as I'm concerned, there should be only ONE X-Men comics, just as there should be ONE series for each superhero or group. That said, what's wrong with DC and Marvel is that the comics go on to long forever. No start, middle and end, and no real character development. Why not have them marry and have children, if they want kids. And please, STOP the relaunch, alternate timelines and parallel dimensions. I know it's ridiculous, but, I the meanwhile I'll stick to manga, indie comics and French Belgian comics. But what do I know, I'm just a reader.

Strontium Dog is the better oppressed mutants story, always has been, and it got forgotten about before this era of clumsy social commentary. The mutants in Strontium Dog are actually just normal humans, with unfortunate physical deformities, which rarely grant them some interesting powers, but which usually just get them oppressed by "Norms", they aren't horrifying magical monster people who regularly have insane abilities and are rightfully feared for all their weird and aggressive behavior.

Personally I was over her as a character about the time they made her way more powerful than her brother; yeeted her as a kid to a demon dimension (then somehow made her RUN it) and brought her back aged up - and nowhere near ready for a love interest... or even looking for one. A) Disservice to Colossus very heavily, B) Not every younger mutant is going to be more powerful than their older sibling. C) They can't even let Collosus have Kitty... and I'm NEVER going to let go of that. So no. I really don't give a flying fuck about Magik. To me, she has one power (the rest of it was granted by a demon possessed blade - which is the ONLY reason she rules that realm as far as I am aware) that ISN'T as useful as Collosus' ability (which once saved her damned life by the way) She's Cloak with tits. Whoopie. At least she's got a bigger dagger...

Skottie Young would've had me very interested because I'm familiar with his art and writing but the whole refresh(?) of the x men line seems very uninspired so I'd still be concerned. That being said his rocket raccoon run was randomly really good. It felt like he was having fun and going in really creative directions there so maybe he'd personally bring something special to an x book, it's easy to imagine he'd get excited for it.

Well said. Another reason to question relaunching with so many titles is simple: money. I was an X-Men fanboy from the early 90s through the early 00s, buying most (trying to buy all) the X-titles because - again - I was a fanboy but also because of those line wide crossover events that became more and more common. I don't know if they can count on fans today being just as bad at math. Y'know, shelling out enough each month to get what at least one AAA game release? Let alone what you could do with Steam sales while having enough to keep your computer up to spec. *All this assuming you have discretionary income.* If you don't, buying the entire line is what, a tank of gas?

They've effectively destroyed the franchise at this point. How in the hell do you rob Rogue of her cake and expect us to be happy about it and DeMayo was the one who told us that the Witcher writers room is staffed with ppl who hate the source material, wasn't he? Why even do this when he then subverts this X-Men show?

First, Gail Simone isn't a reason for anyone to get excited. Second; wasn't Eve L Ewing the one that did Ironheart. Badly? I seem to recall her name somewhere on a comic run that didn't do too well, but let's be honest. That's MOST of the comics Marvel is currently pumping out. If not damned near all of them. I'd have liked one consistent, back to good writing and great art comic that I could pick up, get into and keep up with. Not every shade under the rainbow that's no doubt STILL going to be full of way too blunt current day social politics. I'm on a limited budget my dudes. I can't afford to drop $100 bucks on comics a month just to not be tangled in a Gordian Knot because you want to splinter one story into a mosiac of barely comprehensible nonsense.

Devil's advocate: Okay, this took some time, so please don't dismiss it out of hand. New Mutants #45, bullying leading to permanent decisions. Without defining who causes what, give us that story. Maybe make us think about how we treat each other. Likely? No. But with 12 titles, the odds are increased.

I think Uncanny has a chance to be good. Gail Simone does best when she has small teams with strong relationships. You have the Wolvie and Jubilee being old friends, mentor/mentee type of thing, but now she's grown up. Wolvie and Nightcrawler are old friends as well, Gambit and Rogue of course. So that could be a good, more street level X Book. Plain X Men looks OK, but Jed Mackay's run on Avengers has been underwhelming. Exceptional X Men looks terrible. I wish I could be a fly on the wall in their 'creative conferences' and wonder if anyone says, 'Hey, what if we started with one main X-Book with all of the big guns, cyky, Wolverine, Storm, etc, then build off of that. That would surely sell more than these three books, right?

Didn't Marvel do this same thing in the 90s? They released a bunch of X-Men titles (Reg., Uncanny, X-Factor, X-Force, Excalibur etc) and then they almost went bankrupt.

Having Eve Ewing and Gail Simone on two of the “main” books, they are going to have to go under the barrel for the rest of the writers because they’re already at the bottom. They have lost their damn minds if they think this is going to be sustainable much less successful. That Eve Ewing book isn’t shipping 30,000 for issue one.

We'll see. Sounds a lot like Marvel has reached the point where they know they really damaged the draw of their other superheroes, and they can't make any good new ones, so it is time to strip-mine X-Men in the hopes that will keep the lights on and the paychecks from bouncing.

As I'm listening to this I realise that Marvel has 2 solid characters to reset their universe. If they want to just do it to/for the X-Men then bring back Nate Grey even if it's just for that. A publication wide reboot would make use of Franklin Richards. I will admit that their tenacity for sticking to whatever they did is inspiring even if what they did is fucked up fan favourite franchises and characters.

Look, I'm just glad the Krakoa era is over and we're getting x books that look and feel like actual X books, but yeah they need to address the sins the X-men committed during the krakoan era, cause yeah they brought all the heat down on themselves. I don't plan on getting adjective less x-men because I hate Cyclops, he's just Magneto Jr these days, but the book set in New Orleans sounds good.
