    The Islamic golden age didn’t just prosper Muslims the Christians and Jews that lives in the empire did as well. There’s nothing wrong translating Greek and Roman works which would of been lost. The Islamic scholars were pioneers like Muhammad Al khawarizm who’s known as the father of algebra and Ibn Sina who wrote the canon of medicine which people in Europe translated and used for over 700 years.

    There are times when human passions cannot be tamed neither by religion or any ideology. The problem is not religion. Yes wars were fought in the name of religion, however one cannot ignore the times when religions co-existed. Today wars are fought in the name of freedom and democracy. Look at what happened in Afganistan. 20 years of occupation, and Taliban is back in power.

    correct me if I wrong, but Jesus at least in the Gospel of John said about Muhammad about 5 times, and never said that he himself is the last prophet (and ofcourse clearly said that he is Messiah, prophet about whom other prophets prophesied so much). In Greek translation his name written as Paraclete (para../mu../over.. + clete/hamd/praised or called upon), in KJV and another translations his name translated as Comforter, Advocate, etc. In every occasion it was said that he will come or "Father will send him" - in the future, so explanation that Paraclete is not Muhammad but Holy Spirit is incredibly weak, especially due to Holy Spirit never named by any prophet or any scripture like that, nor in any Gospel this name clearly means "Holy Spirit", nor any clue for anyone to suppose that.

    The Mongols were not uncultured correct. They were however parasitic, taking what they needed from civilized peoples through trade and plunder. I realize the definition of civilization has become somewhat elastic in recent decades, but I do not think by any stretch of the imagination it can be pulled to include the Mongols or their empire, unless of course genocide and brigandage are your definitions of civilization. Your comparison of Baghdad to other major cities destroyed by the Mongols is correct, although a bit less interesting to most of the people watching this in English however.

  • @Tzbebfis

    @Tzbebfis

    Жыл бұрын

    @@M167A1 I think your view of the Mongol Empire is rather simplistic. Like all empires, they expanded by waging war on weaker polities, and they certainly did behave questionably from a modern point of view, but does that warrant your categorisation of them as a ‘parasitic confederation of marauders’? Aren’t all conquests brutal and inhumane enterprises that cause suffering on a massive scale? Where is the difference between a life that was taken by a supposedly sophisticated realm and one that was terminated by a nomadic empire? The Mongols lived in a much more egalitarian society than their sedentary neighbours, and they were keen on adopting new technologies and methods of statecraft in order to better govern their ever expanding dominions. Their rule also led to an integration of economies that had been hitherto not been connected with each other. Sarai, the capital of the Golden Horde, was supposedly a marvellous sight to behold. A mindless brute would not have been able to achieve that which the Mongols accomplished in such a short span of time. After all, their khanates outlasted Alexander’s kingdom, and he usually is being praised by historians for his military brilliance, so why can’t we acknowledge the Mongols in the same way?

    Not all conquests are the same. The motives are not the same, you can tell that by the outcomes. Example: Muslims ruled Spain for 800 years. During this period, that part of land flourished economically and culturally. After 800 years of Islam ruling, people there still speak Spanish. On the other hand, Spain ruled Columbia for 400 years, Columbia now speaks Spanish! Economically, you might know better than me. Check what many European countries and the US did to Muslim countries, they spread corruption, invade countries like Iraq, Afghanistan. They steal Oil, protect dictator rulers that protect their interest, they topple any democracy experience. Every country US entered is now in a shitty state.

The fetal alcohol syndrome, the unemployment, all the addictions, the mass incarceration, the poverty, and so much more. Not only were cultures and communities disintegrated and destroyed, but so too were natural ecosystems.
