His story makes me so sad and simultaneously angry. As someone who’s spent a decade and a half working with individuals with developmental disabilities, working in various group homes and facilities, Chris’ parents were ill equipped to care for him in their older age, and he would have possibly done better in a group home with a support coordinator and an IEP and vocational rehab. Instead, he was left to use the internet and be subject to manipulation and trolling

  • @Optimegatrongodzilla

Indeed! What a lot of people fail to understand is that due to narcissistic personality disorder, and whatever mental health condition Chris has that has somehow never been diagnosed(possibly schizophrenia, schizotypal personality disorder, or one of the Cluster B personality disorders), Chris understands & perceives things very differently from people who are normal or people who are just autistic and are, unlike Chris, actually on the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum(like me), and is incapable of seeing that they have certain problems and have delusions. What to someone like me or a non-autistic person would be disgusting, indecent, or inappropriate, is not seen that way by Chris. For example, that drawing Chris made of them fingering their former friend Megan, and uploaded to the internet to prove to trolls that they aren't gay. Chris has a warped sense of right & wrong and is incapable of understanding that certain things are not okay to do. Plus, Chris truly has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old child, combined with the hormones & sexdrive of an adult. So, Chris can't be held to the same standards as a functional person. These issues combined with Chris not getting the special needs education they needed as a child, because of Chris's parents being idiots, and all of the trolling towards them have resulted in the person we see today. The only hope for Chris is them having consistent psychiatric treatment forced upon them. It's also worth noting that Chris has prosopagnosia(AKA face blindness)(which also was somehow never diagnosed), which means that their ability to recognize faces, including their own face, is impaired, and that Chris, at some point, developed Split Personality Disorder(AKA Dissociative Identity Disorder(DID for short)), as made evident by the 'year-long bodyswap between Chris and Sonichu'. As the KZread user K 767 said, "I think the guy just doesn't have sufficient cognitive resources to deal with his emotions and responsibilities, so, it's unreasonable to judge him as if he was just a normal guy who happened to be lazy and narcissistic. The Asperchu Saga was hilarious, but don't kid yourself. Alec was just a troll pushing the right buttons to confuse a mentally challenged man.". As the KZread user ARC1300 said, "I think it's just too difficult for us to compartmentalize his issues and his shortcomings to "He refused to get help. Boo-hoo! It's his fault.". Mental health is a very complicated issue for us to just simplify it like that. I get it. We're all human and we want an easy answer to everything, but that just isn't the way life works. Don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating any of the shit he has done. I wouldn't even dream of it. But, it just seems lazy, arrogant, and callous to just say something like that and leave it at that.". As the KZread user Kay said, "What is also upsetting is when it is said that Chris has failed to grow up & become a normal person. Being on the spectrum myself, this is beyond frustrating. He can't be a normal person. This isn't a matter of him being childish and not growing up. He has autism; a developmental disorder. It's not like he's going to wake up one day and say "I think I'm going to stop being like this.". It's just unbelievable that adults are mocking a man that is literally mentally disabled, as if he is choosing to behave that way. Yes, with different & better support, he could be more productive and, maybe, make better choices. But, his brain will always work this way. The bullying, tormenting, and harassment have only made him worse.". As the KZread user ICryAllDayAllNight said, "It's so frustrating to see people claim Chris brought this misery all on himself. Yes, Chris is a bad person, but it's because his brain is literally incapable of carrying out the functions needed for him to be a good person(empathy, self-awareness, critical introspection, and basic critical thought). He just doesn't have the biological brain structure there to see things from other people's perspective or to understand certain concepts. I see this whole Chris saga as being a bunch of people bullying a mentally disabled person. He needed professional help, not to be tormented for his entire adult life.". As the character Arthur Fleck said in the movie "Joker", "The worst part about having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't." and "What do you get when you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash?". I heavily encourage you to watch these 6 videos! At the very least, you should watch the one titled "The Tragedy of Chris Chan: An Autistic Person's Perspective". kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z3xpxLh7o6fYqKQ.html, kzread.info/dash/bejne/iGmNxrh6nNi3o6Q.html, kzread.info/dash/bejne/iHWJqteOaMS7ico.html, kzread.info/dash/bejne/pZeNzI99n6i8Z6w.html, kzread.info/dash/bejne/YptqlbVrqbu_nJM.html, and kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2d_2NmDmrjYhbA.html. Also, I don't know where the idea that Chris said they are claiming to be transgender in order to get with lesbians came from, but I haven't seen any evidence that it's true. There is potential evidence that Chris is legitimately trans. In an old email thread between Chris and PandaHalo, Chris said that they had always identified more with girls and that they wondered if they should have been born as a girl. You can find this in the CWCki article about Chris's transgenderism. However, I won't say that this is definitive proof that Chris is trans, because the points that the KZread user GiBi made in his video "A Discussion About Chris Chan's Gender", and the points that the KZread user TheZiros made in said vid's comment section have a lot of merit.

I’m autistic myself and see many similarities between ways I used to act and the way Chris did. It’s fucking terrifying and makes me appreciate my parents despite them having fucked me up in their own special way. As disgusting of a person Chris Chan is, my heart broke for him when I saw the video of his medallion being destroyed, i know how much value sentimental objects can have and how much it must have hurt him to watch it be destroyed. In his position i likely would have not even watched the video after seeing the medallion and acted like it never existed in the first place, deluding myself further. The Life of Chris Chan is truly a fucking tragedy and hell not of his own making but certainly perpetuated by him

This. There's "awkward and quirky", and then there's "absolute disaster". I firmly believe most autistics, myself included, don't come anywhere NEAR "absolute disaster" territory. It's kind of shameful to me that CWC is what so many people, especially on the internet, think Autism is like. It can be, if you're so hilariously neglected or low-functioning you can't properly function like CWC, but most of us that are able to talk and function like the typical person are really no different than anyone else. We're just a bit twee and have a few more tweaks to make to work in a world that really isn't designed with us in mind. Even those of us that have lower functioning often have skills and insights that are just as valid, but the disorder becomes more of a disability and gets in the way of that. I compare it to running on Linux when everyone else is running on Windows or Mac - same functions, same abilities, different ways to do that and slightly more finicky controls. Someone high functioning is running on more RAM or mental space, perhaps, but that doesn't make the lower-functioning people less valid and worth respect. To expound on that analogy, if most Autistic folks, regardless of functioning level, are like Linux? CWC is like a malware-infested MS-DOS machine that someone took a magnet to the screen of a few times, let sit in a dusty warehouse, and nobody ever upgraded to the latest firmware. CWC is woefully behind on literally everything to the point that maybe they were considered high-functioning before, but now are so damaged they're basically as low-functioning as someone who is born with Autism and intellectual disability. CWC needs profound levels of aid to turn their life around at this point, because now they're 40. The brain and behavior patterns are set. There's not much that can be done to change the guy, only to care for them now. Not only is it harder now for CWC to learn better,, but now, CWC is even less inclined to want to learn, and that's truly tragic.

@St. Anselm's Fire What a lot of people fail to understand is that due to narcissistic personality disorder, and whatever mental health condition Chris has that has somehow never been diagnosed(possibly schizophrenia, schizotypal personality disorder, or one of the Cluster B personality disorders), Chris understands & perceives things very differently from people who are normal or people who are just autistic and are, unlike Chris, actually on the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum(like me), and is incapable of seeing that they have certain problems and have delusions.

The whole Chris-Chan saga is just insanely tragic. Chris' actions aren't excusable by any means, but the more you consume the story, the more you see the dominoes that led to the present. Almost every step in this story is vile. It literally makes me feel sick when I see Chris try and do something he believes is good (even if what he's doing is actually terribly cruel/flawed/misguided) and then see the cycle of back-and-forth torture it breeds between him and those around him. And it's all exacerbated by social media's ability to unempathically spread interesting content. Chris is a sick person and so are the "trolls", but I mean that in a way that implies hope for healing. Despite their disgusting actions, I think having grace and empathy towards the people is so important if we want to keep things like this from happening. Again, bullies and abusers should NOT go unpunished, but when you only see the perpetrator as a perpetrator and not a human, I think it only pushes everyone into a worse place.

I think people feel cringe when there is something you see in yourself that you don't like, usually cranked to 11. I can see why people thought Chris-chan was a troll herself, because it's almost like she is cringe in _every_ way a 4chan, ED or SA user would respond to., bad art, relationships, gender identity, lack of awareness, and on and on. And she kept coming back. And rather than admit they have some of her traits, some of those internet trolls chose to go after her instead, effectively harassing someone who clearly has something going on with her mentally. As long as you don't do that, you are probably healthy.

I think all Chris ever did was self-focus and self-reinforce... I think that's the problem here: untreated autism so severe and carelessly exacerbated by the nurturing of Chris' most narcissistic traits, that it would eventually manifest itself as a sort of delusional sociopathy. If Chris wasn't so hilariously goofy, then incarceration and institutionalization would've come decades ago. Can you imagine a community College not expelling either one of us immediately? How about if one of us drove drunk to harass a business we'd been previously trespassed from, and then fled from the police after nearly running someone over? I mean, that one is especially infuriating and the state should be held responsible for failing to act there considering the chain of events afterward.

I never really bothered to learn about Chris Chan until recently. I always assumed he was just some random guy the internet liked to make fun of/the guy who made Sonichu. But after learning more, let me tell you... it's one hell of a ride. As someone who struggled with social aspects in real life before, I can sort of see why Chris did the things he did before his rise on the internet. Unlike him, though, I usually just kept to myself without bothering anyone. I had a crush on a girl that went to my math class this year. I tried to ask her out, but she kindly revealed that she was a lesbian. So, while I never got the chance to be with her, I decided to just let her do her, and leave my crush on her behind for someone else. Once I learned about Chris' obsession with Megan, I kind of saw a mirror to me accepting reality compared to Chris' whole "coochie plan" as I like to call it. It made me think... what if I fell down the same path Chris went? It's kind of scary to think about. In fact, I'm noticing a whole lot of parallels between me and Chris, not just our romance problems. The fact that we're both obsessed with pop culture, born to parents of differing age gaps, and even writing dumb fanfics of our favorite video games. The similarities are too unnerving for me to NOT notice. I know there's a lot of people watching this series who are shocked to hear that they're similar to Chris Chan in many ways too. And I know they're afraid of being like him too. To those people, don't be afraid of who you think you are when you compare yourself to someone else. Just look at the little details inside you that make you different; make you who YOU are.

One of the things that amazes me the most about Chris is he never got in trouble with some very dangerous people. Think about it, he’s so easy to manipulate and deceive, especially back in the early days of internet chat rooms. A dangerous person could’ve easily catfished Chris into thinking some young woman wanted to hook up with him, make him come around to one of his nearby hangouts and abduct him and never be seen alive again. If there really is such things as multiple universes, than this kind of reality could’ve been very frequent.

No. He was not putting himself out there, He is the epitome of pathetic desperation. He disrespected all boundaries. It’s disgusting. I know he is autistic but he always knew better. Go get inspiration elsewhere. Pitiful….

My theory on why Chris went trans is because he was tired of girls telling him they’re lesbians. If Chris became “Christine” and preferred women, it prevented women from playing the lesbian card.

That's the main reason why the Trans and LGTBQ+ community don't consider Chris as one of them. It's obvious that it was all just a plan for Chris to get a woman to sleep with him. Why would someone infamous for protesting gay relationships and transgenders suddenly back down on those statements and become one of them?

It's been debated for a while on calling him trans, it's not the first time people brought up the reason why he started to transition because of wanting to sleep with women not identifying as one.

Seeing this chronicle of all that anger, frustration and lashing out? What a small, small world Chris-Chan has lived in all these years. So much effort and focus put towards really quite small scale and petty situations...

Everytime I hear about this guys story it makes me sick to the stomach, like I know it's funny because he's so easy to manipulate but it feels like an episode of Black Mirror. The internet was the only audience that would listen to his insane ramblings, feed his addiction, if that addiction went away he might've gave in to therapy or re-evaluating his life. But the internet is the audience that never dies.
