AS if Dream himself hadn't encouraged this crazy swarm of stans that follow his every move. a lot of the times the “controversies” aren’t the problem, it’s the way he responds to them. he’s gotten into so many little situations that could easily be forgiven, but he responds like a complete immature idiot who has no respect for anyone other than himself. he makes his issues worse by the way he responds by going out of his way to attack people and it makes him look so much worse when it’s actively encouraging his stan’s to go after people too. he’s a terrible role model for his young audience and influences them to attack others. i understand he has an incredibly big audience and cannot he held accountable for what they all do, but when he actively encourages them by saying how much he loves his stans and never tells them they’re going overboard, it becomes absurd.

    To me, it seems like Dream's biggest problem is that at first when any drama about him comes up, he always speaks before he thinks, expressing his immediate emotions rather than thinking it over. But then we he realizes he made a mistake with how he responded, instead of just providing a more nuanced and thorough statement, he instantly apologizes hoping that the problem will just go away. Also the entire part of the Twitchcon disaster involving privacy-invading and crazy fans is really his own fault and this is just him experiencing the true consequences of his actions. By affirming and supporting stans and stan culture at every turn, he has reinforced the parasocial relationships that a lot of his fans have and pushed them to the extremes. I actually find Dream's career in general to be a really interesting case study for future content creators as to the consequences of regularly yielding to twitter pressure and supporting stans. Honestly I think if Dream wants to stop this cycle which I am almost positive will kill his channel eventually, he should hire a manager because it seems pretty clear to me that he either doesn't have one or has a really shitty one.

  • @murasaki6691

    @murasaki6691

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree, I'm not really a fan or anything, but I've come across some drama a couple of times and I feel the same way, when Dream's involved in any drama he lashes out and doesn't think carefully about what he's going to say, he just let's his emotion guide him which almost always ends up in him beefing with people he doesn't even know or people disliking him even more in the end, people have hard time sympathizing with him cause he brought it upon himself, so people don't really feel bad. If he can't handle some twitter fangirls by himself (or as I've heard even him encouraging them?) then maybe being a content creator is not for him. I don't wish him anything bad of course, that's just what I personally thing, he's letting himself be controlled by fans and haters which result in many of his bad decisions.

    I don't think it was just the face reveal. I think the guy just turned out to be way to sensitive to the mob and they ate him alive. You can't focus on being a content creator if you're having to second guess or backtrack on every decision you make because twitter didn't like it, and he formed a pattern of behavior of doing that every time people had an issue with him. Compare that to Pewdiepie who stuck to his guns and didn't let people bully him into submission. He had a long and successful career and has slipped into a semi-retirement while maintaining a strong core audience that respects him because he remained true to himself.

It doesn't really matter if he disavows their actions- to them, their idol said "You guys are fine I love you". This is enough for them to feel like they can do anything. More about my tweet on 1:18:04 , I was just walking through the halls when I noticed Karl and the other streamers standing close to the walls and I quickly moved further away from the huge group of teens surrounding them when I realized what was going on. There was couple Twitchcon staff members with them, but they really didn't do anything to the fans, they just stood next to the streamers. When Karl finally went to the bathroom, one of the staff members stood infront of the bathroom doors to block the door a bit so that the fans couldn't get in, but since it was a public bathroom, they really couldn't block it completely and not let other people use it too. There was also a Creator Lounge at the end of that same hall and people waited there for hours for streamers to come outside. All in all, streamers at Twitchcon San Diego barely got any privacy or space to move without getting completely surrounded by people.

The irony is that early in the video when he first responded to controversy he said "All people do is make a fuss to make themselves look like the better person. They use the struggles of people that actually have disabilities for their own reputation." Not only does this rings true for his fanbase and the people who get offended by him, but also he does it himself. @@MachinaOwl yes that's because narcissism is extremely common in humans, especially amongst social media performers/influencers. Heck, narcissism is almost a requirement to be a successful influencer. The Paul brothers are the most hardcore example of toxic narcissists, I'm sure you've noticed. A lot of people grow out of their narcissistic tendancies as a kid, but Dream seems incapable of such growth by choice. I think he has a lot of other anti-social behavioural traits but narcissism is easily top of the pile. You don't need to be a doctor to recognise it, he doesn't do a very good job of hiding it from anyone willing to put two and two together. That rule is a bit different if you’re a content creator, most of your followers will likely be minors, but you should still just keep everything surface level. The simple fact of it is that after his less than or equal to average face was revealed, the entirety of the 'creative' portion of his audience (child aged/teenaged girls) lost all interest. They all collectively pretended that he was an attractive twink or hunky anime boy when in reality it was literally just a character design he probably had/created as a throwaway, and didn't show his face because ??? why would he? it's not exactly normal for a youtuber who covers gaming content to show their face- its a standout when it happens. But he blew up. To such a level that for some reason, people expected to see his face. And when they did they didn't like it. And that was that. The illusion of attractiveness vanished and so did everyone.

    His face reveal is why I’m afraid of Twitter. Anything and everything you say or do can and will be used against you. Existing as a human being is enough justification to get cancelled. I’m not a fan of Dream. I don’t like or dislike him. Either way, he just seems like a person on the internet. A person with a large following, but a person all the same. People make mistake, people learn how to conduct themselves (for better or worse), and are prone to expressing their human-faults. So to Dream SMP, keep on keeping on, I don’t expect you to be an unrealistically perfect saint of a man, and I hope you can keep your nose clean. That goes for everyone else out there reading this comment on this GamerFromMars video, too.

And now I watch a video like this after we broke up and I'm like thank god we're not together anymore, and I know he's still a stan because he has DSMP Pinterest boards.
