JHope wasn't crying because he was away from his parents but because it was the first time since he moved to Seoul to fulfill his dream seeing his father showing some support and saying he was proud of him... Before that his father was against his passion for music and dance, so when JHope was younger, he was training and learning with his hometown's crew secretly.. Later his mother was the only supporting him... So seeing his father finally recognizing his work and passion was huge, of course he was missing them too. Also, you have to keep in ur mind that they were handling a lot of pressure and hardships, backlash and mistreatment from everywhere, No side was with them... And JHope was receiving a lot of hatred from antis with literal campagns calling him ugly and to kick him out... So that glimpse of comfort coming from his parents and especially his father that he wanted to make proud as he said in one of his concert's speechs meant everything, and I assume surely it gave him a lot of strength.

I swear I listen to BTS' b-sides 90% more than I listen to their singles and comeback songs. The b-sides usually have far more to offer me as a listener, in terms of lyrics, melodies or beat, feeling, emphasis on lyrics... yeah I definitely go out of my way to listen to their b-side tracks on the daily more than I would for their hits. The exceptions would be Save Me, Fake Love, Mic Drop, I Need You and Film Out.

J-Hope crying because before his father had never supported him in his choice of career. Suga wanting to live with parents is understandable. He supposedly ran away from home where he had severe fights with parents because of his music and came to Seoul where things became even harder. He starved, he wasn't paid for his job, then joined BigHit where they said he would become an idol instead of a rapper. He took part time job which was against the trainee rules, got hit by a car and got injured. He was so afraid to be kicked out of the company that he didn't tell anyone and didn't get help. He spent several days in his room don't going out in fear. All this on top of his depression he supposedly had for years (in The Last song he mentioned that his parents was with him in his first psychiatrist appointment). Then things supposedly became better, but people started to attack him for betraying hip-hop. Their schedule was tiring. I think he just craved for safe space where someone would take care of him.

@@Jurnalist_ as far as we know Suga's relationships with his parents became better. He said that he always thought that he should act like his father (and this is where his cold facade was from) and don't show vulnerability, but once his father asked Suga not to be like him and he is regretting a lot of things he did and said. So Yoongi grew a lot as a person since then. His older brother always supported him, actually. And after he got his surgery in 2020 he literally is glowing up. I think now when he is not in constant pain after 8 years and not in fear that this injury can end his idol career any time he really feels much better. He is different even with the way he looks, like he is much more comfortable with himself. He is posting photos in Instagram from some particular photoshoot for several months now and we quite shocked of the image he willingly chose to portray with it. Most of us thought he would never be comfortable with something like that. I am so happy for him. As for Hobi, his mother was one who always supported him. He has song dedicated to her, and I think it is beautiful. His growth as artist is amazing. I know you started to know him with his solo album, but it was very surprising turn for many ARMYs (but I think it wasn't that unexpected). With his last photopholio that was released someone joked that ARMY would not dare to call him Hobi for some time, lol.

You touched on the cultural-familial differences between US/UK & the rest of the world. In Asia, for example, for probably millennia, the family is still very important, whether in a patriarchal or matriarchal structure. It probably started millennia ago because everyone had to pull through to make ends meet & then that still stayed up to today & became a cultural tradition. Thus it's normal to see several generations under one roof. This includes the strong family structure in India, which is also considered Asian (although the caste system there can hamper that, but I digress). It is perhaps the same in Africa & ancient America. In the "West", for some reason, the family structure somewhat started falling away & the concept of "independence" started to make it's way to the surface. Maybe it is one progress of first-world countries who evolve too quickly. This is why in the US, when you hit age 17-18, some parents will kick their kids out. And some of those kids won't be ready when that time comes. On the other side of that timeline, when you are old & a senior citizen in the US, some of their adult children will put their parent(s) into a senior home living facility. Some of those old people may not like that, but some seniors may also like that, simply because they too were a product of wanting independence for themselves when they were young adults. You will rarely see that happen with Asian grandparents, i.e. those who cannot function on their own, unless perhaps their kids have become modern/Americanized. And even if these adult kids are somewhat making ends meets, the family bond is not enough to break that they too would want to kick their old parents out of their homes. There will always be a bedroom for their parents, the same parents who took care of them when they were kids & now in turn are taking care of their parents. So, not many kids who got "automatically" kicked out have been able to make it on their own financially. That is unfortunately the Butterfly effect that was put on to them. There are several youtube videos here of teens in the US that wend their way around streets & cities as homeless people, video-interviewed about how they got there on the streets after getting kicked out of the nest. Of course there are teens that have made it on their own, perhaps because they were ready, prepared, or had a stroke of good luck, such as finding a good steady job or had some talent they were born with. Hard work, motivation to survive & staying in school also helps pay that off. But again, there is the other half that do not make it, i.e. the young & the homeless. BTS is loved by many fans planetwide not just for their talent but because of their love for family, even loved by fans for this band becoming a 7-member family of their own. There are also many fans who watch them additionally for that, because they see that family structure that some of these fans may not have, so BTS becomes family for them as well, whether those fans are age 17 or 77. BTS have also been hugely helping pave the way to change that stigma shown in this episode that most idols do not write their own songs. They were not the first to write their own songs, but they are helping blow that industry stereotype out of the water. One huge reason for that was because BTS was not initially supposed to go into the idol industry. They were designed to go into K-Hiphop first. Had BTS been initially designed to be KPop, I'm not sure how popular they would have become, or how long they would have lasted. Due to this breaking stereotype of songwriting, hopefully in a few or less KPop generations, the industry might wake more due to BTS influence & the ratio of idol bands able to write their own songs will be flipped, from less today (perhaps 20%) to more in the near future (perhaps 80%). I'm making those percentages up, but those numbers are possibly close in approximation to reality. As I may have said in comments awhile ago, by band members writing their own songs, the KPop industry may over time become seen more seriously, not just in SK but also globally.

You're not the only one who gets auntie vibes from J-Hope. When I first discovered BTS, I tried to look at pics of them on google to try to learn their names and faces so I could know who was who. Hobi was the first face I learnt because I kept thinking that he was the one who looked most like somebody's auntie and I kept guessing him correctly. I think I enjoy his fashion sense the most too. His looks at Paris Fashion week in LV, Hermes and Dior? Chef's kiss. And then the looks he came up with for the photo folio project? Amazing. It's kinda hilarious that you probably wouldn't have lasted 3 months in BTS. You'd have slapped at least 12 people in that span of time 🤣 The amount of times you were ready to backhand somebody's boy child through the screen lmao. It really goes to show that BTS took a lot and held their silence before they started dropping those Cyphers.

I think the comments about b-sides speak more to how idol fandoms work in korea, starting from the days of H.O.T. and Sechskies. The early fandoms went ALL IN with their idol groups, you can extrapolate both the good and bad of that, and b-sides are another part of how fans stayed engaged and well-versed in their idol groups' discography. Groups today have to cultivate that level of buy-in, and b-sides are part of that.

Don’t get me wrong, the title tracks are all really good too but you see an artist’s depth through their B-Sides which is why when a new youtuber finds BTS through their title tracks-let’s say Dynamite or Butter- ARMYs immediately recommend their B-Sides to prove that BTS doesn’t do just your generic boyband pop songs 😊 For example, Paradise by BTS is a B-Side off the Love Yourself: Tear album. B sides are songs that aren't title tracks. At least that is what I think they are. BTS has so many songs on their albums with no music videos, that are amazing songs. Some of them that haven't been performed live but are amazing songs like Louder Than Bombs and Paradise. And some that are only on CD like Path, and Sea. Others are just awesome but have no video like Born Singer and Hip Hop Lover. J-Hope was having a rough time, and his Dad didn't suport him in the beginning. So I think it was about that. And he missed home. The pressure they had on them was tough. Namjoon loses his passport all the time.

I agree but this agin is just lazy in their part. It’s not a requirement to be a true lover boy in rnb or to be happy in pop. To use the most prevalent and commercial section of hiphop or rap to make an overall point to me shows the lack of respect for my art form and exposes the casual nature he interacts with it. Because those of us that listen to real modern hiphop cannot find an artist not providing an intimate look into themselves or what life is about. It’s just a furtherance of lazy commentary and a slap in the face to an art form I hold dear. I do get your point but I think it provides an out for a thought that was helpful handedly put it to bolster his view on the lyrics BTS provides and to do so disparages those who don’t get the advent of massive commercial promotions.

18:30 get what you mean about b-sides. What I feel about the b-sides point is that it’s how to build a loyal fan base that won’t only listen to hits is all. To loyal fans, b-sides are the butter and the hits are just bread, if you enjoy what they do. Namjoon’s statements after that is him addressing the criticism he received before he could even technically “begin” to show what he’s capable of as a BTS member. That he isn’t a manufactured “idol” given lyrics nor a rapper with zero potential if fitting into the idol category with the group. It’s not always about how RM views himself or his idea of hip hop, it’s a response to how media, critics, and as corny as the word is “haters” initially had to say about bts and him as a member. Especially foreigners. And ohhhh no I can’t wait for you to see footage from American hustle life, I cringe so hard at almost every second of it lol love it

That is JK's enterance ceremony. We have the graduation a few chapters later. The original title to "boy in luv" means translated "macho man" so that was tongue in cheek. The "problem" song was "War of Hormones" and personally? I think it was a campaign against them as they were becoming too big for a no-name group. Rank is still very important in SK. Fun fact: Lee Sooman is going to sue his own label SM Ent. . Why? Because they are trying to get rid of him/stop him from funneling the money into his own bank-account (the man was once even wanted by Interpol for his money-tricks). The label is selling stocks to Kakao (?; a major entertainment investor in SK - I think they own Mnet) and while that would be still less than the percentage LSM has he wasn't asked. SK has very strict drug laws. That unfortunately includes medcine. The result is that among others a major female Idol was investigated for buying something from outside of SK for her mental health (I think) because it wasn't an allowed drug in SK. Because she did mean "brighten" not "whiten". it is a class thing not a racism thing - at least not with Koreans to other Koreans - but it can be if you are not (East) Asian (or White). Think about it? What do people with light skin (like east Asians) do quiet visibly? Tan. Now who tans - when you can't just take a holiday and throw yourself into the sun on a beach? Homeless, farmers, fishers etc. Who does not? anyone working indoors: scribes, priests, blue-bloods... Notice something? Yes, you could see which class someone belonged to just from the color of their skin - we are after all talking about a very homogeneous population. And that created Korean beauty standards (for men, too). It has nothing to do with being white. SK had far more problems with China & Japan than Western conquerers. And yes, now it can create problems that are racistic in nature but that is not what made the standard. Korea and not US (or Europe) remember? People LOVE BTS B-Sides (when you mean songs that are not getting an MV): Paradies, Bapsae, Am I wrong?, Ugh!, Attack on Bangtan, Dimple, Pied Piper, GoGo, Hiphop lover, the Cyphers etc. Blue & Grey (BE) and Run BTS (Proof - Anthology Album) are almost more loved than the title tracks. (maybe watch Elliot Sang "why fans love suffering artists" and bby gang mag "you are wrong about K-pop") 26:40 (or so) You have cut the sound on the Cypher so we can't hear what you said while you paused. If you watch for example their travel show "Bon Voyage" you will notice that they did teach the boys to be self-reliant. And if that means they'll get lost and loose their stuff? than they got lost (with the camers man) and loost their stuff. In the last few years they have traveled a lot by private plane as a group but individual they have also flown solo without a manager. They do know how it is done. Not to mention they had - temporary - diplomatic passports for a few month in 2021 when they came with the SK president to give a speech at the SDG (= Social Development Goals) moment of the UNGA in New York. They showed those of (and fans were - jokigly - afraid Namjoon would loose his - he has lost his before). Thank you for taking your time and watching this! You nice! Keep going!

Also grabbing her wrist pulling her along. 🤣🤣 No that song is called the war of hormones and if you watch you’ll ask where the insult was. FYI, your sound is going in and out, is it the video? 16:00 As a translator, I do get writer's block. And I do more or less what you say: I write down a direct translation, start working from there to refine what is that the characters want to say, to whom, and find the perfect conversation (the satisfaction you get reading it out loud is beautiful, or to think that somebody will quote you ^^). PS For those who don't know, it is sometimes really tricky and difficult to translate properly (not only culture bound speech, but the sense and sentiment, why use this verb instead of this other...) So everyone requesting subs here and there (from bangtan, from reactors even...) hold your horses for a minute. (I mean the entitled ones)

I think what non-Americans think of hip hop is based on what is exported to the rest of the world. If what is being exported not necessarily intimate then that’s all you know. I’m from Mongolia, and we didn’t know anything that was being said and just bounced to the music 😂, but also this was in 1997 for me and no internet. Maybe now with globalization and internet access it’s different

Crazy thing is calling it hiphop while throwing out the essence to make it your own in your country means it’s no longer hiphop. You can’t throw out the roots of a thing and call it the thing. You can’t throw out jazz roots then make jazz in Scotland and call it jazz. I get your sentiment but these allowances to me are not okay and show a lack of respect for the source. Imagine. I took Asian culture threw out the roots but still Called it Asian it would be disrespectful and a farce.

Then it is talked about like it’s still apart of the source. This is why I’m very weary of hiphop even in my own country. Hiphop is the only art form people strip what they want from it use it as they like and no one bats and eye.

Like, one thing is not being familiar with Hip-Hop prior to BangTan, but another thing is dismissing everything that came before which ALSO inspired them to do the music they are enjoying. There IS a reason they admired the OG's and learned from them. In any case, it should inspire the to open their ears and minds. 💜💖

Being older and remembering 45's they would have the hit on one side and the B-side on the other. The record only had 2 songs and you had to flip it over to listen to the B-side and there was a little disc thingy that went in the middle so you could play it🤣🤣 So I think they mean it more like that. Legendary back in the day, not considered throw away songs. My favorite was the Beatles Don't Let Me Down was the B-side to Get Back and I prefer it. Famous B-sides We Will Rock You, The Man Who Sold the World, Erotic City, Revolution and You Can't Always Get What You Want to name a few. Crazy right? One eyed is like you thought, narrow visioned. @@breamiddleton726 but the truth of it all is HIP HOP is not ALL intimate. mostly, yes but not ALL. even when it was created back in the day. some songs where just feel good songs or song about sex. you want to take it the wrong way instead of the way he said it but that's your problem after all. he said nothing wrong. the "necessarily" really separated what he said from what you understood tho. it just meant that hip hop does not need to be intimate for it to be hip hop. and what he said about khiphop is not what you understood also. he said most ppl in korea want music that is true to power so they naturally gravitate toward hip-hop and indie music. because kpop is overall shallow. he absolutely did not say that khiphop is more true to power than american hip-hop. just that those who are in search of deep music will turn to hip hop. Also when you said : "mentioning the people popular right now doesn’t shape the whole genre cuz you wouldn’t do that for any other genre" that is also false because people nowadays compare old RnB to the recent one, same for pop music.

You saw how hard Jin slammed his cousin into that locker. Anyway back in those days they were low on funds and had to use their staff as extras in their music videos a lot. I heard that rather than being able to hire an actress for the boy in love video, Jin got his cousin to do it. I don’t know whether that is fact or just urban legend.

22:00 my 2 cents about B-side songs: Of course the term comes from vinyl and cassette times, where usually you would play Side A and when it was done, unless you REALLY were a fan, you wouldn't turn it over, you changed the whole thing. So I'm assuming in radios, when they explored, they listened to the first 5-6 songs and "never" the Side B... Which was left for those seeking more. What made artists put their most worked on, radio ready songs in their Sides A (even if they worked as hard for the other songs). Then you had the title track in said Side A of course. Cue plates that turn the vinyl alone, and cassette players which did the same (high peak technology I tell you). Along came the CDs. The game changed for many, even if there was a title track, more often than not you would play the whole thing, and if your what once was Side B weren't good (songs besides the 1-2-3? title tracks), people would only play/cue those songs and not the rest of your album. (generally speaking, I always had to listen to albums from 1 to 10, and not shuffle or skip songs ^^U esp coming from cassette era) As it is today. So you saw how many idols debut each year, many prepared a lot, but they don't go beyond 2 songs to showcase and if they have a mini album with 4-5 songs... the rest are "bad" and you only have a bop (similar to one-hit wonders but in a cycle of release an album, make people buy, only 1 song is worth it). The thing with BTS is that ALL their songs are well produced, have meaning, and are well-rounded in order for you to know them all in the end. For other artists (even their own so called fans), you only know them by title tracks, either because the rest of their records don't appeal to you enough or because you weren't curious enough as to check more music from them beyond the title track they gave you. So in the CD and streaming era, I think B sides are taken differently and thus sought after in order to claim an artist is good (as opposed to being famous or having a hit). Hope I made sense XD

The whole skin stuff is kind of interesting from a History Point. Actually saw something about that which compared european and asian standard, both of them had this the lighter the better because it showed that you are rich enough to not have to work on a field under the sun. But then a tanned skin in europe was more desired because it looks like you just got home from vacation and you can afford that but in most of Asia this didn't happen, the lighter skin is still the most wanted. In my opinion it has also something to do with the culture of 'if you can't manage yourself how are you successful in life' which is often still said about idols instead of simply 'lose the weight to be healthy or pretty' But also racism🤷‍♀️

I get all that I do. But I still think it all comes down to trying to devour someone based on skin tone. So for the standard to be something not many can reach without destroying their individualism is a problem.

Asian families are very clanish. We don’t mind our children living with us even if they have their own families. It is a weird thing for people outside. We take care of our folks until they are old and grey. It has good and bad sides to it but thats just how asian upbringings are.

8:30 ga na da ra ma ba sa ha are the first syllables in the Korean alphabet, so instead of ending it with ha, he continues ha...kuna matata. As if saying, from start to finish (ga to ha), don't worry and just let's be happy. (hope that makes sense) Spoiler: You'll see some alphabet lyrics later on in Trivia: Love. I PROMISE you, they are the most clever thing ever :) (not saying anything else, you'll get there)

In Asia it is common to stay with your parents, some would do it until they financial able to so or some after getting married. In some cases, parent would be offended when their child want to move out as if a signed that they cannot provide and have failed their responsibilities as a parent. As much you don’t understand why Asian wanting to stay with their parent, I don’t understand why others want to quickly move out - why letting go of the already provided warm/comfortable place to stay.

i get so mad when i think of War of Hormone and how they never perform it. War of hormone is such a clever song, where bts takes on the persona of a young boy going through puberty and you get to hear about him popping pimples, saying cringe pick-up lines and most importantly, obsessing over a girls body and trying to get with her. its hilarious, tongue and cheek and very honest, and it sucks so much that people AND critics (who clearly have no reading comprehension) took the lyrics out of context, pinning them as "how bts sees women". Is a song monologing a villian's thought process in a disney movie considered violence inducing then? Are people not allowed to create anti-heros because the main character has to be a good role-model? We're not writing an ethics book here, we're telling stories. that's what a song is meant to do, anyway. As a female, War of Hormone was hilarious to listen to, probably relatable to those who've been through puberty (which is literally everyone) and also was such a unique take on a song (and for bts as well). Their whole concept at that time was young, wreckless, immature but passionate school boys. They were what? 15yrs old to 20yrs old in age. oh god, sorry, im ranting, but I hate the dumbing down of art just because the lowest common denominator doesn't understand it.

23:20 Yeah, I agree that for many, if an artist decides to explore, they start saying they are becoming this or that and that they are not themselves blah blah blah. F it. Like you want a person or group to churn the same album over and over again for 20-30 years? Go listen to the album you liked, mf! I saw this recently with Coldplay. I've never been a fan, but I liked them (and I know they are super hated for no reason also xD). When they released Higher Power (before we knew about any BTS collab) I really liked the synth-pop that brought me back to the 80s but I saw from supposed coldplay fans a lot of hate. So I guess people need to separate being a fan of a person/group and being a fan of a type of music. I like artists (from classical music till today) and I love seeing their evolution, not to please any audiences, but to grow themselves, to explore and see if they can produce something good. So being ARMY (bringing it back to BTS) is just that, not meaning you cannot criticize or dislike or prefer this or that, but allow them growth and let them settle (if they so want) where they want to settle. If it's not for you, move on.
