The combination of seeing him without top teeth in an interview and then Him and Rampage in a t-shirt together swinging in a freakshow fight compared to how my friends and I would watch Pride back in the day and talk about those guys like they were superheroes hurt a bit. We all have to get old but man..I always hope those guys go out gracefully but in truth, fighting is all they know and promotions don't have pensions. This was absolutely great man, really. I've always been curious about Sapp and his life but anywhere else they just make fun of his losses/flops and the Helwani calls. As an old-school Pride/K1 fan, I appreciate this so again, thank you.

Bob Sapp was always an attraction in K-1. Even if I knew he was an underdog, I ALWAYS cheered and rooted for him to win. You just had to love the man in the ring regardless and when he was featured in the remake movie "The Longest Yard" (2005), I remember I near wanted to watch the movie solely for him in it (Well that and at the time I loved Adam Sandler's movies before he got boring and uninspired). Sapp was a winner even when he lost a match. FEW men can ever claim that.

Bob ran into me (I say because I was there when he arrived and it was a usual spot for me) in Tokyo about 10 years ago in a bar/club pretty early in the night watching some UFC on the bar TV. I agree soo much with how you closed this video. He was one of the nicest dudes I've ever met, I think we were talking finance stuffs for over an hour, he was on a big "cash is king" kick (didn't know about the way he was screwed in the past so that's probably why) and was doing a lot of public speaking events and what not at the time. It was always great to run into another American out in the wild in Japan, I only vaguely recognized him when we're were chatting but given his larger than life build and unique personality I knew I had seen him before. He's a down to earth guy who's very self aware of himself and the life he's led. If you ever get a chance to have a beer with the man, you should take it.

Thank you for this segment and putting things in a clear objective take. This is one heck of a life story. Bob Sapp has always been the biggest "What if?" in the history of MMA to me. Like when he was more "legitimately" competing against actual names earlier on and despite having bugger all proper training, (or even actually training for fights, it seems) he showed a lot of potential so if he actually wanted to fight and dedicate himself to the sport properly, the sky could have been the limit for him. He seems a great guy and can't begrudge him for choosing the route he did but I'll always be curious how he'd have been if he'd taken it seriously. Props to the big guy, though.

I grew up in Japan around that time and he was literally everywhere and he was a giant of a personality. To hear him talk about it and say he has no regrets is a good thing to hear. If he went into the NFL he wouldn't have been anywhere near as well known as he was in the fight industry.

People shouldn't bash him for taking L's, it's life. Like the vid said he was never a fighter, he even admitted by the middle part that he rarely trained, he was technically a wrestling entertainer for the most part except for a few times that he really legit fought, but after that it's back to entertaining. What a great piece you've made. Not just the sentiment for The Beast, but the production quality as well
Damn man..had me tearing up at the end no b.s.
This really shows another way to sapp. Usually he seen as this big steroid abusing man that gives up to get a paycheck. This video really does humanize him and appreciate that a lot .
guys you have to find someone who can put Japanese subtitles to this. This is a really good documentary from a guy who was a true superstart there. Im sure hardcore Japanese MMA guys would find this! Great work!!

I admit as a fan I never really understood Bob Sapp. We would watch him on Pride and some of his 'marketing promos' and just wonder what the heck is going on here? Thank you for this segment and putting things in a clear objective take. This is one heck of a life story. He basically had to learn on the fly every where he went in a sport that was also learning on the fly. And some how managed to keep his sanity, and likely his long term health. Keep up the amazing work

Man, I don’t think I’ve ever heard Bob Sapp speak, he has a way nicer voice than I thought he would.
This was extremely well done. I have a new found respect for Bob Sapp 👍

This was some of the best stuff you guys ever made. Sapp is definitely one of the most intriguing people in MMA history and his journey says so much about the issues faced by fighters even to this day. Anyone can talk about legacy and competitiveness, but like Mayweather said "My kids can't eat legacy". Good on him for getting his payday in his own terms. At the end of the day, he put on the same gloves as everyone else and, at one point, went up against legends of combat sports. Gotta respect the man's drive and hustle.
