The Rise & Fall of Young Money (Documentary)

Young Money is one of the biggest labels of all time. It birthed artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and more. Founded under Cash Money by Lil Wayne, the rapper mentored and scaled the careers of the biggest rappers of the next generation. But with beef and lawsuits between the artists and Birdman, the label took a sharp downturn and you wouldn't recognize a single new artist that's been recently signed on the label. In this video, we'll discuss the rise and fall of the label and everything in between.

Look, they had their run. And it was a good one. Not my era, but give credit where it’s due. And it all starts off with Wayne going solo and dropping consistently until he reached the top. Plus, once he started featuring on other records, it was over from there. Quite impressive when you think about it. Also, with a team like that, I’m sure the other artists, musically, contributed to hooks and/or concepts, probably gave away songs to get the tracks the light they deserved…it happens all the time. In the studio, when there’s the right chemistry, it’s can truly be a team effort, if everyone’s on the same page. And for a minute , they were, that’s why they had their run.

@ 3:16 STOP 🛑 WHY was having this type of distro deal “unheard of” at the time whn No Limit had ALREADY done it⁉️ 🤷🏽‍♀️‼️🚫

Great question and thanks for watching. The difference was in size of deal. Birdman modelled his distro deal after Master P and just did it on a larger scale. No Limit signed a deal with Priority Records which opened the door for Cash Money to do the same with Universal - which was simply just a much larger, major record label. Universal is actually the parent company to Priority Records which is where No Limit signed their deal with

To make this video short. If you’re an artist. Don’t sign your life away to any record company. Independent is the way to go, yeah it’s way harder and damn near impossible but if you make it possible, the money is way better than what these companies say they’ll give you. RIP Dolph

“Somewhat active, Curren$y!” Man stop playing with my dawg my favorite rapper. He’s underground but he’s more relevant than Wayne is today. Wayne is my all time fave but he’s not relevant that sound isn’t the sound anymore. Spitta music still sound the same from 2013 he makes timeless music.
