@@slow_start Oh good, I'm glad you found my comment! I watched your video because I'm on an old Facebook group with other Alumni from DNA (it was set up shortly after DNA shut down in 2006), and John A. Davis posted your video to the group. Here's what he said: "I don't know who made this (and I was not involved) but it is well done. I've seen some really laughably inaccurate "story of" accounts online, but this one is actually pretty darn accurate!" So, there you go, from the horse's mouth! As for me, I'm the guy with glasses and longish brown hair sitting at the dual monitors looking at a high resolution render of Jimmy's hair in Photoshop (I made the textures and materials for Jimmy, Goddard, King Goobot, Ooblar, Poultra...and Paul the 3-eyed chimp). It's simplistic stuff, but it fit the shows's aesthetic and the (off-the-shelf, as you know) tools of the time were quite limited. I'm also standing on the right, close to the front in the Jimmy Neutron crew photo. My career turned towards the Lighting side of the industry in more recent years, and I'm currently a Lead and sometime Director of Photography for the Lighting Department at Pixar.

I had a professor who was a modeler on Jimmy Neutron, he taught our intro course, and he showed us some of his files from Neutron and Ant Bully. But he also told us that the studio was under severe crunch, and towards the end the work environment was really unpleasant. Apparently, they originally had an agreement with Nick for a certain amount of new models/outfits/environments that were allowed each episode, but Nick continually surpassed the limit. This cause the studios to do a lot more work than they agreed on, which obviously affected their money and work environment. I think he also mentioned the Ant Bully thing but this was in 2013, so I don't remember exactly. Overall it seemed like he was still proud of having worked on the show.

I always thought the animation in Jimmy Neutron was really good. I think it something to do with how every movement feels like it has real weight and gravity to it. When a character throws an object, it may not have the exact physics it would in real life, but close enough- and the movements in the show just feel so believable. The rigs also have a lot of expressiveness, most notably in the faces. Nobody looks like a stiff toy, or a low-poly PS1 character. For example, I can't enjoy Beast Wars because all the characters look fake as hell and move fake as hell. I cannot suspend my disbelief with that show. But with Jimmy Neutron, even though the artstyle is very cartoonish, the movements and facial expressions are very realistic, so it is more palatable to watch.

Part of me would love to see it return, but I also know it wouldn’t be the same. I think a lot of the charm came from being a product of the late 90s and early 2000s, I don’t think it can be recaptured like that. Plus, if we’re being honest with ourselves here, Jimmy Neutron is very much a kids show. Not that it’s not enjoyable as an adult, but it’s not to the same degree as say early SpongeBob or Rocko or Regular Show etc. I feel like if Jimmy came back as a reboot, it would get buzz for a day and then nobody would really care again.

I think it would be possible, if the show grew with the audience. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it should be "adult" (by which I'm referring to the definition you're thinking of), but has matured in a way of showing that while it is the same Jimmy in essence, it's grown up a bit. A large aspect of the enjoyment with Jimmy is the weird inventions and off-the-walls adventures; going to Egypt, finding a mad scientist in the Bahama Quadrangle, The Junk Man, and many others. Point is, there's a very fine balancing act that would be incredibly difficult to pull off successfully.

I would argue that part of the success of the first seasons of rugrats was due to its cheap and archaic looking animation style. Jimmys animation worked because it was a whole new show but when you start a show with the characters looking one way and eventually they look entirely different than they once did it takes a lot of the magic away. I even feel that way about South Park.

In the United States, Jimmy Neutron was never properly syndicated. It only aired on cable, airing reruns on Nickelodeon until 2012 and the spinoff channel Nicktoons until 2021. There are rumors that the Christmas special aired once on CBS sometime in the mid 2000's.

I really dig this short yet throughout look at franchise's history without any major dramatic nonsense padding it out. Not everything needs to be a 2-hour cinema verite documentary about a scandalous lost media mystery. Sometimes a show gets made and then it ends without much else to it and it's nice to hear those stories too.

What a fantastic video! I remember this show being advertised in Germany in some kid's magazine (I forgot the name) and when I watched it, I wondered what "DNA productions" or "Ohhhh Entertainment" is. Now hearing and seeing all the names behind the companies is like a puzzle that makes the whole picture. (Also, the marimba jingle playing in DNA outro is also the jingle that plays when CloneDVD/Alcohol is done ripping a disk to ISO^^)

One of the big successes of this show is, ironically, that it didn't outstay its welcome. So many shows will run one and on, getting worse over time. Jimmy Neutron never had that time to turn bad, it was golden from start to finish. I fear that if it had run longer, even by 2 or 3 seasons, it would have deteriorated as the writers ran out of ideas.

I still remember seeing this in theaters. I didn't have cable, but this 7 year old and his cousin basically died laughing. This was and still is one of the most fun and clever films I've seen... and even still it holds up today. Sure, modern 3d looks different, but the animation in Jimmy Neutron is fluid and consistent, which to me, makes it it's own style. The show was incredibly clever, and fun. I'd watch it any day of the week.
